Chapter 371: -Chapter 371-
Davian wanted to check in on Lake but he didn’t want to disrupt his sleep so he just contentedly held him close the entire drive.
If it were anyone else, the fact that they started to get desperate would spark suspicion but it was different because it was Lake.
Davian had never seen that torn expression on his face before and he never wanted to see it again.
He knew why Clint and Isabella had done what they did, and he really didn’t care about whatever shenanigans they got up to, but he did care a lot when it involved Lake.
Davian hadn’t considered their ridiculous claims for even a moment, he had just been caught off guard, of all the scenes he had expected to stumble onto...
It was late in the evening, and it had gotten colder, Lake shivering against him as he stepped out of the car.
He didn’t spend long outside, quickly striding into the mansion. He beelined to Lake’s room, gently placing Lake on the bed so he could make sure he was okay.
Lake sat up, his head had been a mess ever since Davian stepped forward, his lips turning down as Davian got on the bed with him.
"Are you alright?" The Alpha asked gently, those gray eyes soft like the moon, none of the dangerous steel glint he had seen earlier.
Lake’s lips tilted downwards even further, "No," He forced out, his eyes stinging with tears.
"You were quiet for so long, I thought you believed what they were saying." When he started speaking, it was like a dam had cracked open.
Tears spilled down his pale face, bringing some redness to his nose and cheeks, "And why did you glare at me? That was scary."
He wiped his cheeks with his sleeves as he spoke, but all that did was dampen his sleeves, his tears not slowing down.
"Why am I crying? Oh my God," He gasped, tasting salty tears.
Just like with the situation earlier, Davian froze again. It wasn’t his fault, he functioned at ten percent efficiency when it came to Lake.
He caught Lake’s wrist and pulled the Omega into his arms, "It’s fine if you cry."
Lake laughed at that but through his tears, it sounded more like a sob, and maybe it was because his shoulders shook, the tears coming out faster.
He couldn’t remember the last time he cried, maybe it was when he was holed up on a ratty bed delirious with a fever while his dad drank and gambled the night away.
It had been so many years now, he couldn’t remember, crying never fixed his issues, he always had to figure out a solution himself.
But now, Davian fixed all his issues, and the Alpha had said it was fine if he cried, there was no holding back the torrent of tears.
Lake grabbed two fistfuls of Davian’s shirt, gasping with the force of his emotions. He tried to cry quietly but it wasn’t enough, breathless sobs wrenched from his lips.
Lake had forgotten why he was crying, or more like, there was so much to cry about that it merged into a big lump in his throat, it choked him, his tears burning.
Davian held him through it, worried that Lake would cry himself sick. He had been the one to encourage him to cry a bit so he couldn’t bring himself to put a stopper on it.
Lake’s tears eventually slowed down, the Omega resting weakly against him.
Davian tipped his face up, wiping his tears with his thumb. "How do you feel?"
Davian pampered him, and he had started to learn to accept the Alpha’s kindness. "My head hurts," He complained, pouting.
Davian pressed a soft kiss to his damp forehead, "Are you hungry?"
"My lips hurt," Lake was quick to say.
Davian did a double take, a smile replacing his worried expression. "But are you hungry?"
Lake didn’t reply, an expectant look on his pink-tinged face.
This was new ground for Davian but he went easily, kissing him softly, "So about eat-"
The rest of his words were cut off by Lake chasing after the kiss. The Omega tasted like tears and honey, his fingers still cold.
Davian frowned when the kiss broke off, massaging Lake’s hands one after the other between his. "Are you cold?"
"You." Lake jabbed a finger at the Alpha’s chest, his watery eyes narrowed, lashed clumped together.
"Are you mad at me?" Davian asked wryly.
"Yes," Lake nearly threw his hands up from how strongly he felt about their conversation. For the first time, Davian didn’t jump to the wrong conclusion.
"I’m sorry for glaring," Davian scratched his head, "It wasn’t at you."
Although he had been confused, he had still reacted automatically when Clint touched Lake.
"That’s not what I’m talking about," He jabbed him some more.
Lake would blame all the stress of tonight and all the crying, but he did plan to talk to Davian about this, just not this way.
"Do you even like me?" He narrowed his eyes.
Davian leaned back, "What?"
"I ask for a kiss and you’re more bothered about food, is there something wrong with me?" He tilted his head to the side, at his interrogation best.
"W-Wait... Lake," Davian stumbled over his words.
Lake didn’t back down, leaning even closer. "I won’t be upset if you don’t want me, I just need to kno-"
A kiss cut off his words, Lake falling back against the bed at the unexpectedness of it.
His eyes slipped closed and he clung to Davian as the Alpha deepened the kiss, his hands going behind Davian’s neck to keep him close.
The sound of ripping made him open his eyes - that was his shirt. Lake really liked the cream silk shirt.
There was little time to be sad over his ruined outfit, because Davian was taking his own shirt off, a calm determination in his eyes.
With his shirt out of the way, Lake’s necklace felt cold against his heated skin. What was that Davian said about him being cold?
He welcomed the Alpha’s weight on him again, skin to skin now, his dark hair splayed across a pillow.
