Chapter 328: -Chapter 328-

Lake took in what clearly looked like a jewelry box, it was almost like Davian could read his mind.

"Thank you," He accepted the unexpected gift with a smile.

His soft brown eyes were trained on Davian’s back as the Alpha went through the connecting door to finish dressing up, momentarily forgetting about the box in his hands.

Inside the weighty box was a bunch of jewelry but the trinket that caught his eye first was a solid gold hairband with encrusted black gems, it looked like a crown.

Lake found it hard to smile, wondering why he was so prone to tears these days, he rarely cried before, maybe it was the baby.

How had Davian managed to get it in such a short time? They had gone to the store just the day before.

The hairband was delicate but weighty, the tip of his nose a soft red as he put it in his hair.

There were a couple of necklaces, a stack of bracelets, and even rings but Lake was content with the hairband.

The hairband fit perfectly, complementing his outfit wonderfully. He sat at his dresser spaced out for a handful of minutes.

He had no idea what else to do, and Davian didn’t look to be done yet.

When he heard the connecting door handle turn, he hastily ripped his hairband off his hair, turning to Davian with a blinding smile, his eyes glassy.

"Could you help me put this on?" He held out the hairband to Davian.

The Alpha swiftly closed the distance between them to take it, his gray eyes sparkling.

He was meticulous with putting it on, adjusting it minutely to make sure it was perfect.

Lake didn’t mind, sitting patiently while he stared at Davian, their faces only inches apart.

When the Alpha straightened up, he noticed the armband Davian wore around his bulging bicep. It was gold, inlaid with onyx just like his hairband.

It made Lake wish he had worn more of the jewelry Davian had gotten for him.

"I think we’re ready to go," He rose to his feet, taking his phone for a lack of what to take to the festival.

"Will you drive?" He asked as Davian held open his bedroom door for him.

"A driver is better," Davian said instead, his dark gray eyes staring at him with an intent focus.

Lake was too busy trying to avoid looking at Davian to notice the Alpha staring at him, whipping around to Davian as they stepped out of the mansion.

"We forgot our coats," He said with wide eyes.

The sun had just set, the wind picking up a bit. It was because he felt a slight chill as he stepped out that he remembered about their coats.

"Already had them taken to the car," Davian said with amusement.

The Alpha was incredibly capable, Lake thought to himself as Davian held open the backdoor for him.

Lake doubted that he would be nervous at the festival, he would just let Davian handle everything while he busied himself staring at the Alpha.

It was strange being in the backseat with Davian, it was usually one of them driving while the other stayed in the passenger seat.

It didn’t help that every line of conversation he could possibly have with the Alpha flew out the window, making the air thick with tension.

"R-Remind me not to have any wine," He cleared his throat to say, hoping to clear up some of the tension.

Davian had been staring right at him the entire time, although the interior of the car was dim so it wasn’t like the Alpha could clearly see his face.

"Even if you do forget, you have me." He reminded him, his voice low.

Lake cleared his throat once more, that didn’t help at all!

He decided to give up and focus his attention on the outside world. The festival would be brief, they would go in, Davian would say hello to the necessary people, and then they would have takeout for dinner.

He could already picture them seated at the island in the kitchen, probably still wearing their outfits from the festival.

Lake had looked outside to distract himself but his thoughts had come full circle back to Davian.

The trip to the festival venue was over in no time, it was at a pretty big and well-known event center, and Lake had a feeling that Davian owned it as well.

He sat tight purely out of reflex for Davian to open his door, because he had been lost in thought.

"Thank you," He murmured when the Alpha helped him out.

When Lake tried to picture the festival, he never imagined that it would be an open-air event.

It was like a carnival, people milling around just in the distance.

There were tables and chairs placed right on the grass, tiki bars, and lavish decorations dotting the open space.

Music was being played as well, too loud for a proper conversation but the guests didn’t seem to mind. It was barely sundown and the party was already in full swing.

As they started for the festival, Lake clinging to Davian’s offered hand, he quickly realized that their outfits were really tame compared to most of what the other guests chose to wear.

Right at the edge of the open-air party, they were stopped by the very first of what would no doubt be a long line of people who wanted to have a word with Davian.

"Mafia King Davian," A sunburned Alpha in an unbuttoned Hawaiian shirt and short shorts grinned, offering his hand for a shake. "I was starting to think you wouldn’t make it..."

He trailed off as he noticed Lake by Davian’s side, alcohol made him sluggish so he couldn’t hide his shocked reaction fast enough.

Davian shook the Alpha’s hand hard enough to make him grimace. "I considered it." He said flatly, moving on.

Lake stifled a laugh, he could see how the Alpha only spent a short while at these festivals. If he treated everyone like the first executive they met, they would be back in the car in fifteen minutes tops.
