Chapter 315: -Chapter 315-

Lake had just wanted to tease the Alpha by saying that but Davian had taken it to heart.

"Fine, let’s go shopping together," He agreed, turning back to the laptop.

"We can even eat lunch out," He tagged on, starting to sort the emails the best he could. It was pretty repetitive work and it was easy to figure out as long as you knew how emails worked.

"Aren’t we getting secretaries for this?" Davian interrupted his task, peering around him at the screen.

"Well, yes, it was just in front of me," He said self-consciously.

"You can interview the secretaries if you want," Davian offered, paying close attention to Lake. "And you can oversee them, as well as review the monthly reports..."

Lake gaped slightly as Davian heaped one important task after the other. It wasn’t about the workload because he was really just telling people what to do, it was the fact that the Alpha was trusting him with something so important.

"...and I’ll sign up for a cooking class," He concluded, a serious expression on his face.

Lake had never wanted to kiss someone so much before. His eyes twinkled as he turned away from the laptop to focus on Davian.

"We can do that on our shopping trip," He said fondly, feeling like he could fall right into Davian’s eyes.

"And I could arrange for interviews for the new secretaries in an hour."

Lake liked this, Lake liked this very much.

Half an hour later, they were making their way outside the mansion. Their destination was one of Davian’s companies so they could run a quick interview.

"Checked and approved," One of the men said as they handed Davian the key.

"Do you want to drive?" Davian turned to Lake.

"I’ll sit it out today," The Omega turned down the offer, making his way to the passenger’s side of the car.

Davian was faster, however, proudly opening the door for him.

Lake gave the Alpha a smile as he ducked into the car, his smile falling away as pieces of a puzzle fell into place.

The reason why the air felt so tense right before they got into a car, and why they never went back to the mansion in the same car they left in.

Lake studied Davian intently as the Alpha got in this car, his expression stoic as he started up the car and drove out the open gates.

"Are you okay?’ He asked before he could help himself, fighting the urge to reach across the console.

Davian glanced at Lake, relieved to not see pity in those honeyed depths, just concern.

And it was ironic, because Davian never gave a shit about there being a bomb strapped to his car, not till Lake and the baby came into his life, and all of a sudden it felt like his heart was going to beat out of his chest whenever the Omega got into a car.

"I’m not the one doing the interview," He said lightly, changing the topic on purpose.

He didn’t want Lake taking on any additional worries for his sake, he would shield him from as much as possible.

"And how hard can it be to do an interview?" Lake muttered more to himself, anxiety gnawing at him.

"They’re all qualified, you just choose who you like." Davian said to ease some of the pressure off him, his tone flippant.

Lake had worn some of the new clothes Caspian got for him because his old clothes were not suitable to wear anywhere else but in the mansion.

The shopping trip with Davian was more important than just picking out an outfit for the festival.

If he was going to be helping Davian to oversee his companies, he would need outfits that matched his new job.

Lake waited for Davian to come around and help him open the door before he realized what was done, playing it off like he did it on purpose when he saw the pleased look on the Alpha’s face.

As soon as they got into the airy lobby of the company building, a lady in a tight skirt and heels came skidding around the corner with a tablet in hand.

"Good afternoon, sir." She said to Davian and then turned to Lake, "Hello, welcome to FluxCorp." She added politely to him.

"The interviewees are currently in a waiting room, I’ll have them sent to your office when you’re ready." She plunged right into it without waiting for a response, leading them to an elevator.

Lake liked her already, he wondered if she was also among the candidates to be hired.

"I already compiled their files so you can go through them before the interview begins."

Lake listened intently, barely paying attention to the cutting-edge decor of the elevator’s interior.

"They all more or less have the same certifications," She tagged on as she scrolled through the tab in her hand. "So all that’s left is their interpersonal relationships, and how well they would handle working directly with a Mafia King."

She said the last part dryly, the meaning of her words obvious.

"I’ll be handling the interview," Lake spoke up then, offering a hand. "I’m Lake."

"Rosie," She said with a nod of acknowledgment. "Mafia King Davian’s secretary at FluxCorp."

"Do you have any recommendations among the applicants?" He asked her as they stepped out of the elevator.

He was dressed in a coffee brown silk shirt that had a low V neckline and flowing sleeves, his slightly long hair tucked out of his face.

"If you want my honest thoughts, they don’t meet my qualifications." Rosie said bluntly, "And I’m not talking about their capabilities."

Lake narrowed his eyes, bothered by the thought of secretaries trying to pursue a relationship with the father of his child.

"That shouldn’t be an issue, they’ll have to deal with me, not Davian." He said a tad touchily.

Davian just walked behind them, listening to the conversation because he had to and not because he wanted to.
