Chapter 308: -Chapter 308-

Davian had put a lot of effort into making breakfast, he stood next to Lake who was propped up on the bed by his pillows, the tray placed on his legs.

"Won’t you eat?" Lake asked with concern as he reached right for the mug of steaming hot chocolate.

The rest of the food didn’t look radioactive, and it smelled good too, that was two points out of three.

"Later," Davian said without hiding his impatience.

Lake took a careful sip of the hot drink, his eyes sparkling like sun-warmed honey. "It’s delicious."

"You sound surprised," Davian said dryly, his chest puffed out despite his words.

"Sit down," Lake patted the edge of the bed.

Breakfast was simple, eggs, toast, bacon, and the hot chocolate he had asked for.

The eggs were so nice that he looked up at Davian with a mouth full of food, his eyes bright but unable to verbally communicate how good it was at that moment.

And even after the mouthful was swallowed, he immediately took another bite, scarfing down the rest of the food.

"It’s all so good," Lake complimented after a sip of hot chocolate.

Davian’s gray eyes reflected sunlight like the moon, proud of himself and content to watch Lake eat...

"Here," The Omega cut off his train of thought with an offered forkful of eggs.

"N-No, I’ve got mine," He lied glibly, even though he had only focused on making breakfast for Lake. His own meals were inconsequential.

"It’s going to get cold if you stay here with me." Lake said with concern, eating the bite he offered Davian when the Alpha turned it down.

More for him.

"I can come with yo-" Lake started to say, making a move to get off the bed.

"You don’t need to," Davian said with perfectly concealed panic. "It’s not breakfast in bed if you get out of bed."

Lake considered that for a few seconds and then sat back to finish up his breakfast, watching Davian leave his room.

It was strange having a filthy rich and powerful roommate, who insisted on making your meals and sleeping at the foot of your bed.

Said roommate was also the father of his child but that wasn’t important at the moment.

Davian hurried back to the kitchen like he expected Lake to dash out of his room and come after him.

He had every reason to be nervous, and not because the kitchen was messy.

He not only didn’t have breakfast for himself but he also had a botched bowl of homemade Caesar salad he wasn’t about to let Lake see.

Davian tore his apron off, striding down the hallway with purpose.

He had spent the entire morning preparing breakfast so there was no time to attend to his duties like he often did.

He would unfortunately have to assign the cleaning of the kitchen to the house staff.

Davian knew that insisting on cooking the meals and lobbying to be Lake’s assistant while running the his mafia house meant that he would be stretched thin.

But that simply meant that one thing had to be taken out of the equation so there would be balance, and it wasn’t going to be Lake.

Lake took a shower before returning the tray to the kitchen so that he didn’t frighten any other house staff he bumped into.

The tray was still where he left it much to his relief, because he had half-expected Davian to return for it while he was in his bathroom.

Lake really wanted to do the dishes, and that was saying a lot considering that he wasn’t eager to do any more chores.

But he wanted to contribute something, he was just a few weeks pregnant, not chronically ill.

He fortunately didn’t bump into any house staff, it almost made him wonder if they were gone already, although it had only been a few hours.

His question about their whereabouts was answered when he stepped into the kitchen to find two maids cleaning up the space.

They all stopped what they were doing to stare at him with something close to awe.

Lake couldn’t just stand in the doorway with his tray so he stepped in. "Was Davian just here?" He asked casually, heading for the sink.

"N-No, Master Davian hasn’t been in here for a while," One of the house staff was quick with her answer.

"Please let us do that," The second maid stepped forward to take the tray from him, and with nothing else to do, Lake had to leave the kitchen.

He couldn’t say which was more surreal, having Davian do his dishes, or having the house staff do his dishes.

Now that that was out of the way, Lake was painfully aware of how empty the day ahead of him was.

He considered stopping by Davian’s study on his way back to the bedroom, but if the Alpha was in there, he would probably be busy.

He itched to check regardless, wondering if Davian had left the mansion without letting him know. He could easily find out by calling him but he didn’t need anything, he was just being nosy.

Just as he got to his bedroom, he got a text from Caspian saying he would be coming over in a short while.

Lake’s expression brightened at that, quickly sending back a response.

Now he had a reason to search for Davian, although, Davian refusing Caspian’s visit was unlikely, he still had to ask anyway.

He peeked into the Alpha’s room through the connecting door to find it empty, and then beelined back to the Alpha’s study. If he didn’t find Davian in there, he could then ring his phone.

Davian was in his study however, the Alpha dominating his chair, gray eyes infused with sunlight.

"Sorry to bother you," Lake said timidly, hanging at the door although Davian invited him in.

The Alpha had immediately dropped everything he had been working on to focus on him. "Did you need something?"
