Chapter 307: -Chapter 307-

"Are you done?" Lake yawned behind a hand when he heard Davian approach, straightening up like he hadn’t been fighting a losing battle with sleep the entire time.

"Yeah," He said as he dried his hands on a towel which he tossed on the counter. "Let’s go to bed."

They quietly walked down empty hallways together as they went to the master wing, Lake yawning the entire way there.

They separated in the hallway, Davian going through the door to his bedroom, and Lake doing the same.

It felt odd, and it was because it was the first time they had gone to their rooms that way, usually Davian went into his bedroom, then used the connecting door.

Lake was too sleepy to let it plague his thoughts, heading straight for the bathroom to take a quick shower.

He was so tired when he was done that he was tempted to sleep in his bathrobe but he managed to get dressed up in comfortably loose pants and an old shirt.

He was asleep as soon as his head touched the cool pillow, getting roused a few hours into the night for the second time in a row.

This time, Davian wasn’t standing over his bed like a puppy kicked off the bed, but the Alpha was actually curled up and fast asleep on the ground next to his bed.

Lake couldn’t say what woke him up, he had been really tired before bed too.

He pushed his wild hair out of his face with a soft smile, one that was tinged with sadness. Davian was curled up around the pillow he brought along, the Alpha out of place on the soft colored carpeting.

"Davian? Hey," He called out softly, his voice raspy with sleep.

He had slept without turning the lights down, and it helped him to recognized the huge lump on the ground as Davian, or he would have attacked first and asked questions later.

"The ground is hard, get on the bed." He invited.

The Alpha was quick to move, a cloud of dark chocolate settling over him as the bed dipped on one side.

Davian’s presence didn’t interrupt his sleepy state, falling back asleep with ease, the lights dimming.

Lake woke up with his arms wrapped around a black pillow, siting up with a start.

Davian had said he would cook breakfast that morning!

That was as incentive as any to get him out of bed and into the bathroom to freshen up.

The sun was already out, the weather starting to get colder with the advent of fall. It was 8 AM, he had overslept.

He felt refreshed despite that, his body starting to forget his old routines.

Lake didn’t bother running a brush through his sleep tousled hair, it was just going to be him and Davian after all, there was no reason to dress up.

He would need to dress up for the festival, he wondered if there was a dress code.

He should have probably checked Davian’s study to see if the Alpha was in there, but he had a gut feeling that he was currently in the kitchen.

So he beelined straight for it, wearing a pair of mismatched old socks, and a well-worn sweatshirt.

This was his home alone outfit... So why wasn’t he home alone?

Lake bumped into one of the new house staff a hallway from the kitchen, the maid looked frightened to see him, it had him puffing out his cheeks as she practically ran past him without looking back.

He didn’t look that frightful, the house staff had overreacted a bit.

He pushed open the kitchen door, half-expecting to walk into a cloud of smoke from a starting fire.

Instead, he bumped into Davian. The Alpha was wearing another of those silly aprons, a tray in his hand.

"You’re awake," He muttered, deep voice heavy with disappointment. "I wanted to serve you breakfast in bed."

Lake’s lips tilted down, soft brown eyes glistening. "I can go back," He said in a rush, meaning it.

There had been no reason to rush here, after all, the tray in Davian’s hands smelled really good. He should have put more faith in the Alpha’s abilities.

"Please do," Davian said earnestly.

Lake stuck his tongue on the inside of his cheek to keep his expression in check, nodding because he didn’t trust his words, right before he stepped out of the kitchen and closed the door.

That wasn’t supposed to happen. That hadn’t been the response that Lake had been intending to get.

He had meant his words, but at the same time, he didn’t expect Davian to take him at his word. The Alpha had been so earnest too, that it was easy to hurry down the hallway, his giggles barely held in.

Wouldn’t it be better for them to just eat breakfast in the kitchen since he was already there?

He didn’t stop his journey back to their shared rooms though, his pace increasing to a light jog and then a little happy run.

So that when he was back in his room and in bed, he was out of breath and jittery.

He had never been served breakfast in bed before, not even when he would fall sick- Lake cut off the memory before it could fester and taint the bright morning.

He committed to the bit too, tucking himself in bed and closing his eyes, Davian’s pillow under his head. He could no longer hold back his smile, however, ticklish from how silly the entire venture was.

A few minutes later, there was a knock on the door, his face going red from how hard he kept his laughter in.

He managed to sell his act until the door opened, his eyes opened at the same time, the brightest smile breaking out on his face.

"You made me breakfast," He fake gasped.

It was terrible acting, but Davian proudly strode in any way, and Lake found it hard to be embarrassed.

His hair was sticking out in all directions, his cheeks hurting from smiling. It didn’t matter how the meal turned out to be, he was already very satisfied.
