Chapter 280: -Chapter 280-

It made Lake nervous to leave him alone so that he didn’t go tumbling to the ground, but he needed to cook.

So he slowly backed away from Davian, realizing that since he showed up, the Alpha hadn’t done so much as drink water.

So in a way, he was to blame for Davian’s current state.

Without thinking too much about it, he put a kettle on the stove. Some of Caspian’s favorite iced tea should be perfect for the situation.

It would hydrate Davian without making him feel queasy... hopefully. It was also something he could drink so it worked out perfectly.

Thinking about iced tea reminded him of Caspian, if he had remembered to take his phone with him, he would have given his friend a quick call.

If only to reassure him that he was still alive. Caspian had sounded really harried about his absence yesterday.

Lake was so deep in his thoughts that he flinched when he felt arms wrap around his waist, relaxing when he realized that it was just Davian.

"I can’t cook like this," He protested as the Alpha rested his weight on him, practically dozing off.

"I’ll help you," Davian was quick to offer.

"No, thank yo- hands off the pan!"

It took a while to convince Davian but he eventually got the Alpha to concede to sitting close to him.

Breakfast was done in no time because he went for a simple meal but made a lot of it.

There was no reason to move the food back to the bedroom so they ate at the kitchen counter, bright sunlight spilling in.

It painted a very unfamiliar scene, one that made Lake’s food get stuck in his throat.

The walk back to the master wing was just as uneventful, it made Lake certain that there was someone behind it.

He wondered what they were trying to do now, surely they weren’t trying to do something as dangerous as tampering with Davian’s food again.

Davian looked content and sated when they got back to the bedroom.

The Alpha’s scent was less overpowering now, and he wasn’t sure if it was because his rut was almost over or because he was starting to get used to it.

A quick shower later Davian was fast asleep with his arm around his waist, and Lake was very tempted to join him.

Taking care of the Alpha was exhausting, and that was because Davian insisted on clinging to him and the Alpha couldn’t hold up his own weight very well.

It felt like dragging along a sandbag with every step.

He couldn’t sleep, though. He needed to call Caspian and, if possible, see his friend in person.

Caspian picked up on the first ring, relief and excitement pouring through his voice. "Lake! You’re okay!"

Lake smiled softly letting himself relax in Davian’s arms, "I told you I was."

"Are you sure?" Caspian prodded, and it was clear he was talking about the conversation they had yesterday morning.

Lake could see why his friend had been so worried, he had acted strangely and then disappeared for hours. If it were him, he’d be worried too.

"I mean I’ve been better," Lake started quietly, tracing a finger over the pattern on the sheets.

"When you called yesterday..." He trailed off, bracing himself to say it.

He didn’t know why it was so difficult, he was an adult so it wasn’t like he would get into trouble for it.

It was just... he never planned for this, it had hit him like a freight train.

"...I just found out I was pregnant..." He finally got it out, taking deep breaths. "...so..."

"W-What?" Caspian mumbled, sounding devastated.

"I-It’s fine," Lake said in a hurry, "It was just so shocking at the moment, I’ve come to terms with it now and that’s why I’m at Davian’s place."

He found himself reassuring his friend who sounded so gutted at the news.

"That’s... it’s Davian’s?" Caspian stumbled over his words.

Lake couldn’t help but feel lighter at his reaction, Caspian was almost taking it as hard as he had.

"I’d be worried if it wasn’t," Lake chuckled quietly.

"How did he take it?"

Lake glanced over at Davian at Caspian’s concerned question, "I don’t know."

"W-What? What do you mean you don’t know? Are you alright?"

Lake knew he shouldn’t be laughing at Caspian’s worries but he couldn’t help it, "I mean, I haven’t been shot yet..."

"Lake," Caspian scolded.

"Sorry, sorry," Lake was quick to apologize, his heart swelling to double its size from the simple act of having someone who cared about him.

"Davian was in his rut when I got here, and... it’s just been really complicated. But I’m fine, I promise," He was quick to add.

"Do you think I could come see you?" Caspian asked carefully, and he knew that the other Omega still didn’t believe he was alright.

Lake went quiet for a moment, he could probably get Davian to approve if he made a request.

"You should," He murmured absently, studying a sleeping Davian.

He had used humor to avoid answering Caspian’s questions, but he had also not been lying when he said he didn’t know how Davian would take it.

The Alpha would wake up any moment now, and all hell could break loose.

He ended his call with Caspian with the promise that he would text right away as soon as he got the go-ahead for Caspian to come over.

That left him all alone with Davian who was still fast asleep.

Lake was going to blame his current thought processes on the fact that he had been coddled by the Alpha for a full day.

Because for the first time, he could kind of see why Avery was stuck on finding the perfect Alpha.

Lake shook himself out of it quickly, he probably just needed to sleep.

He also had a hard day yesterday, and an even harder one today dealing with Davian.

A short nap would do him a lot of good.
