Chapter 254: -Chapter 254-
"Just eat as much as you want," Clint responded, taking off his shoes.
Lake still stood off to the side for a bit, rightfully stunned by the entire situation.
The wrapped up sandwich in his bag would end up uneaten, it was a good thing he didn’t prepare a lot of food before coming to the park.
"What are you waiting for?" Clint asked curiously when he looked up from the food to see him still standing off to the side.
And there was something wholesome and harmless about the Alpha, it was like meeting a kid at the park.
It made him take the step forward instead of walking off and returning to his apartment.
"Scooch over," He muttered, tossing his back to the side so that he could have his hands free to take his shoes off.
"I didn’t think you would come," Clint said with an open smile.
"Do you invite a lot of strangers to have picnics with you?" Lake asked, taking the plate Clint eagerly offered him.
He didn’t mean for it to come off like a jealous question but it ended up being that way regardless.
Clint didn’t seem to notice it though, the Alpha getting his hands messy as he dug into the food.
"Strangers don’t offer me food," He shrugged, talking with his mouth full, a habit Lake couldn’t get rid off.
Lake didn’t enjoy finding out that offering Clint a sandwich was what brought them to this point.
But it was good food, expensive too. It had him looking at Clint askance, the Alpha was really chatty about his personal life but it felt like he was keeping a lot of things hidden.
Lake had several reasons to do the same so he didn’t push, pleasant company while eating didn’t come by easy, so he enjoyed the free food.
"Want a slice of cake?" Clint offered already cutting up a huge chunk out for him.
And what do you know... it was chocolate cake.
And so was the cookies, and the puddings, and the pie...
"You like chocolate a lot?" He asked with a grimace, eyeing up the cake on the plate like it wronged him.
Clint had an innocent look on his face as he looked at him, "No, I thought you did. That’s why I had them made."
Lake had to bite his tongue then not to correct the Alpha, taking a not-so-convincing bite of the cake.
"That’s really thoughtful of you," He said in a tone that sounded more of a grumble.
"You can take all of the desserts back with you, you would enjoy it more than I will."
Lake’s grimace turned into a pained expression, "Thank you."
Clint couldn’t talk as much, wolfing down the food and once again making Lake worry that the Alpha didn’t get enough food to eat.
But considering he ate most of the food prepared for the picnic, only picking at the dessert because he wanted to give it to Lake, despite his protests.
He could now see that the Alpha was just a glutton, and not starving as he originally feared.
After their hefty brunch, Lake helped to clear up the empty dishes and containers with Clint.
The Alpha immediately flopped on his back when the blanket was cleared out, dozing right off.
Lake had to smile a little at that, it was a little ridiculous.
He didn’t stay for much longer after that, leaving a note for Clint for when he woke up.
He only took some cookies, letting the Alpha know that he simply couldn’t eat that much dessert.
A quickly written thanks and a folded weighed-down note later, and he was off, languidly making his way out of the park.

(AN: I know next to nothing about divorce proceedings, so take my descriptions with a grain of salt)
Caspian turned to look at Asher who was currently driving, a smile breaking out on his face when his mate briefly glanced back.
They had spent the entire morning preparing the documentation for a divorce and Caspian had been all smiles since they left the courthouse.
It was only the start and there was a high chance that Noah would do his best to make the divorce as messy as possible.
But Caspian didn’t care, he had his mate, it would happen eventually, regardless of how hard Noah tried to ruin things.
It also helped that he was giving up his title and his inheritance from his parents and as the heir to the Pack. There was nothing for Noah to leverage on.
Caspian couldn’t say if it was because his little skirmish with Asher had been resolved in all of a few hours, or because he had finally taken the step to file a petition for a divorce.
Either way, he was a bubble of happiness that morning, and he had even made them skip out on breakfast to get things over with as soon as possible.
"I think we should celebrate with pizza and wine," He announced on their trip back to the Pack house.
Asher gave him a befuddled look, a smile playing at his lips. "I don’t think I should be drinking."
"I’ll drink for the two of us," Caspian said energetically.
Asher would have turned down that suggestion in any other context that involved his mate getting drunk at the Pack house.
But Caspian did deserve a glass of wine or two, and he would indulge his mate.
Just like whenever they had a disagreement or were going through a rough patch, Caspian’s treatment of him never changed.
And it helped Asher forgive himself whenever he did something to upset his mate.
"It might be better if I drink my own share," He said lightly, swerving into the parking lot of the Pack House.
"As long as you don’t run off again, I don’t mind." Caspian said in a similar tone, waiting for his mate to come around to open the door for him.
"I’m not leaving your side again," Asher promised quietly, helping him out of the car.
