Chapter 251: -Chapter 251-
Caspian lasted all of two hours before jumping out of bed, disgruntled and worried at the same time.
He had half a mind to smack his mate when he finally found him, just for putting him through all this trouble.
He pulled a jacket on, and sweatpants because he had previously been dressed for bed.
Caspian didn’t know what room the men were in, and he couldn’t reach them by phone so he would just have to settle for calling Jael.
He made his way down to the foyer of the Pack house, hoping to bump into his mate or at least someone that could help him find his mate.
Because as helpful as Jael would be when he did call the Beta, he wasn’t too eager to bother Jael who was miles away handling things all by himself.
Caspian stepped out into the parking lot without much luck, it was getting later now, the parking lot empty, the skies clear.
He glanced at where their car had been parked, unsurprised to find it empty.
Of course, Asher had left the Pack house.
Just as he brought out his phone to call Jael, a car drove into the parking lot, the headlights almost blinding him.
Caspian’s hand slowly fell back to his side, squinting at the car and immediately striding forward when he saw that it was indeed his mate’s car.
The parking lot was lit, so when the driver’s door opened and someone stepped out, he immediately realized that it wasn’t Asher.
Caspian froze midway to the car at the unfamiliar figure of the person, already lifting his phone again in case he needed to call someone.
But the person just went around, and in a short while, returned while supporting Asher’s weight.
Caspian was honestly impressed that he didn’t drop his phone then, somehow managing to keep a hold of it as he hurried over, prepared to go on the offensive if he needed to.
"What’s going on? What happened to him?" He demanded, his tone steady despite the fear and worry brewing under it.
The stranger gave him a familiar smile, one that had soothed Caspian’s nerves as he got a better look at him.
"Sam?" He called in disbelief, momentarily forgetting about the state of his mate.
"I didn’t think you’d remember me," The bartender said, pleased.
He had long put out his cigarette, needing both hands to drive because Mafia King Asher couldn’t.
"You still smile the same." Caspian stated matter of factly, getting over the sight of his mom’s old friend to refocus on his mate.
"Is he okay?" He asked about Asher.
"More or less. He’s just a little drunk, at my bar too, so I brought him here."
Caspian wore an expression of sad concern, Asher didn’t like to drink, at least not until he was blackout drunk.
Their conversation had just been a bit upsetting to Caspian, because he didn’t understand why Asher would ask that, but his mate seemed to be taking it harder than he did.
"Thank you, I’m really sorry for the trouble," He immediately tried to reach for Asher although he knew he couldn’t support the Alpha’s dead weight.
"It was no trouble, your mate is nice company." Sam said without a single judgment in his voice.
Caspian barely recognized him because he had considerably fewer tattoos the last time he had seen him, and that was around the time of his parent’s death.
He almost thought that Sam had moved out of town because no one ever talked about him, and he didn’t get to see him either.
He appreciated Sam’s reassuring words even though hearing Asher and nice company in the same sentence was a trip.
Everyone at the Pack had reacted to his mating to Asher with disapproval and disgust, and although he didn’t care for their opinion, it happened often enough to weigh him down a little.
"Think you got him?" Sam asked emphatically.
"I don’t think so," Caspian admitted easily although he was clinging to Asher’s arm.
His mate’s head hung limply against Sam’s shoulder, and it looked like he was just fast asleep.
"You do," Sam insisted, straightening up so that he was no longer supporting Mafia King Asher’s weight.
He shook the Mafia King awake easily, he had no intentions of stepping foot back into the Pack house, no matter the reason.
Besides, he doubted Asher would appreciate being carried around. The Alpha had walked to the car by himself, after all, barely stumbling.
He only fell asleep while Sam was driving, the alcohol no doubt the reason for his drowsiness.
"Be good, Cas," He waved to the kid who was all grown up now, stepping onto the road before taking out a cigarette.
Caspian watched Sam lumber off, they were never really close. He was just one of those cool adults who happened to be a friend of his mom.
He was still clinging to Asher’s arm, turning to look at his mate to find him staring down with glassy eyes.
Caspian opened his mouth to speak and then shut it once more, they needed some privacy.
So he held Asher’s arm as they silently and slowly made their way back to their room.
Asher didn’t need his support because his mate was walking fine but he didn’t complain about Caspian’s help, so the Omega stayed close.
Caspian led the way to the bedroom and helped Asher sit on the bed, immediately reaching out to help him undo the buttons on his dress shirt.
"Please don’t get rid of your phone again," He finally broke the silence, completely understanding why Jael had been about to shoot Asher for doing that.
Asher didn’t say anything and just stared up at him, his eyes were reflections of the setting sun on the surface of calm water.
When he was done unbuttoning Asher’s shirt, he stepped back, uncaring about the heavy scent of alcohol that clung to his skin.
"I told Noah no because I’m happily mated and in love with my mate," He gave an answer to the question that had started the theatrics of tonight.
