Chapter 215: -Chapter 215-
The first thing he did was loosen the knot he had put his hair in.
It was great because it kept the long dark brown locks out of his face, but the downside was his scalp getting sore.
And he usually had to keep it tied while working, defiantly refusing to cut it shorter.
There was no reason to unpack because he doubted that he would be spending the night here.
So he just kept his overnight bag in a corner and gingerly got on the big bed, trying to go over his new plans.
There was little to go over though, because everything was heavily dependent on Master Davian.
Suddenly, dinner felt like an eternity away, and without Caspian’s bubbly presence, it was difficult to remain optimistic.
Lake slowly relaxed further on the bed, laying down gradually over the course of an hour.
It was already mid-morning by the time he got to Mafia King Asher’s mansion, so it was no surprise when lunch was rolling around again quickly.
He half-expected Caspian to ask to have lunch again with him but instead, his lunch was brought by a polite maid.
It was no surprise that the mate of a Mafia King was busy, he clearly ran the mansion.
He supposed that Master Davian was the only one with a butler, and it made total sense because the Mafia King clearly had no intentions of getting a mate.
Lake’s neck tingled as the maid walked out, the scarf around his neck tight enough to choke him.
Too late! Because he already did.
But that was more reason to hide it, Master Davian hadn’t chosen to mark him. He had just been at the wrong place at the wrong time.
Lake tried to eat more but his nerves shrunk his stomach and ruined his appetite.
It almost made him wish that the meeting had been set for lunch instead, he just wanted the whole thing over and done with.
Caspian did come to find him but that was late in the afternoon, barely an hour to sundown.
"Hi," The pretty Omega smiled as he poked his head in after knocking.
Lake was already on his feet - he had tried to fall asleep but couldn’t. And despite his misery, the day still went by unbothered.
"Hello," Lake said awkwardly, shifting his weight from one leg to the other, his hair down around his face.
"I came to tell you to start getting ready for dinner, Asher will be back soon."
"Right," Lake nodded and looked around like he truly had made preparations.
"Do you have what to wear?" Caspian asked, wincing after he did.
Because he didn’t exactly have clothes the other male Omega could wear, but if it came down to it, he was sure they could find something.
Lake did not.
He was also sure that wearing ripped jeans and t-shirts to a dinner where two Mafia Kings would be attending had to be some sort of crime.
But he didn’t want to intrude further on Caspian so he went to his bag, "Is there a dress code?"
Caspian shrugged as he walked forward, "My mate always wears whatever he wants."
Lake gritted his teeth as he touched the gold statue he stole, starting to regret his decision to ask for approval for the clothes he already had.
He and Caspian both bore the marks of Mafia Kings but the gap between them couldn’t be wider.
"I’ve got jeans," Lake said lamely, lifting them out of the bag.
He knew they were already pretty bad but taking them out showed that they were even worse.
They hadn’t looked bad when he got them, and for someone with his standing in society, he could even call them his good jeans.
But standing in the lavish decor of a Mafia King’s mansion, they just looked tacky.
"That watch isn’t bad," Caspian said hesitantly, not wanting to hurt Lake’s feelings. "You should definitely wear that."
Lake felt his heart jump in his mouth at Caspian’s words - watch?
He got a look for himself and realized that one of Master Davian’s watches had been snagged on the belt loops of the jeans.
Lake felt very green as he silently nodded, knowing well how much of a bad idea that would be.
"Great," Caspian relaxed, "Just take the watch and come with me."
Lake did as he was told, moving robotically. He had hoped that he would be able to find a way to avoid wearing the watch but it was looking less and less possible as time went on.
He trudged obediently after Caspian, the watch feeling like molten metal in his grasp.
The Omega’s bedroom was just as luxurious as he had been expecting, but try hard as he might, Lake couldn’t picture himself in a room like this.
He knew the most he would ever get would be to clean it.
Caspian led the way to a walk-in closet, the Omega rambling as they came to a stop in front of a couple of dressers.
"I don’t have a lot of clothes you could wear but I’m sure we can find you something," Caspian was saying, and Lake could hear a hint of anxiety in his voice.
He didn’t bat an eyelid at the very feminine clothes in one of the dressers.
"You don’t have to search for me," Lake stepped forward, more comfortable in a servient role. "I’ll do it."
"Oh," Caspian murmured, taking a step back.
He hadn’t even figured out what to wear yet, Asher had banned his outfit from the function and the dinner had been so impromptu.
He could just wear a dress and tick his mate off even further.
He didn’t have to though because Lake seemed to magically come up with outfits for the both of them.
They were nothing too extravagant, just slacks and linen shirts. His own were noticeably plainer but Caspian said nothing about that.
"Do you like scarves?" He asked before the other Omega could return to his room to get dressed.
Lake gulped at the unexpected question, "Yes."
"I’m sure you could find one that matches your dinner outfit," Caspian offered, going to his shoe rack.
