Chapter 213: -Chapter 213-
Lake had asked for privacy to tell his predicament, and Caspian had given it to him, much to his bodyguards’ disapproval.
So now, they were currently stepping out of the car and he still hadn’t been forced to give his story.
He held on tightly to his bag, turning down Caspian’s offer to have someone take it into the huge mansion for him.
"I don’t think I’ll need to leave again," Caspian was saying, addressing Peter and Keith. "But, you can hang around if you like, the movie room is always open."
Lake avoided the piercing glare the Beta he had come to know as Peter shot him, the other bodyguard mostly looked bored.
Caspian didn’t wait for their response, grabbing Lake’s wrist and starting for the mansion.
Staff from the kitchen were already heading to the car to take inthe fruits that he bought.
"I have to stop by the kitchen real quick before we have that conversation," Caspian said apologetically.
Lake just quietly nodded, he wanted to tell the wonderful Omega that he didn’t mind waiting for several hours for him to be done.
"I’m so sorry about the delay, Katya," Caspian said ruefully when they got to the bustling kitchen. "I ran into some trouble."
It was noticeably less chaotic than it was a while ago but the chef looked even more ragged.
"Oh, there’s no need to apologize, the fruits came right on time." She reassured him, wisely saying nothing about the odd Omega clinging to his arm.
"Will you be having breakfast now?"
Caspian turned to Lake at that, "Have you had breakfast?"
Lake shook his head, trying to blend into the background as much as possible.
"Can breakfast be brought to the living room for the both of us?"
"Right away!" Katya beamed, drifting off to handle the desserts.
Caspian led them away from the noisy and warm kitchen, the sounds fading away the further they went down the hallway.
Lake couldn’t help but pick up on the familiarity in the way everyone interacted with each other.
Even with their Mafia King’s mate.
Arthur ran Master Davian’s mansion like the military, and his own Mafia King was even colder and very distant.
He pressed his knees together when Caspian gestured at him to sit down, unable to look at the Omega’s face for too long because of his beauty.
"Think you can tell me what’s going on now?" Caspian said gently, "I’ll also need to let my mate know."
Honestly, Lake knew he had been treated far too well for someone of his standing in his position, and it was all because of the angelic Omega sitting in front of him.
"It’s a little complicated," Lake huffed out.
Talking to someone else like this was a little hard because he didn’t do it at all so he was rusty at it.
"I work as a maid for Master Davian, and I had to stay back later last night." Lake just went for it, staring down at his calloused hands which rested on his knees.
"I was cleaning the master wing, and I didn’t predict that Mafia King Davian would come back early - because he almost never does."
Lake intertwined his hands, "But he did this time and unfortunately for me, he was in rut, so..."
Caspian’s eyes widened as he filled in the rest of the pieces, horror dawning with the realization.
"So why are you on this run? None of this is your fault!"
Lake knew that but he had panicked, and it was the Mafia, things could always easily go south.
He should know, he had lived his entire life closely intertwined with the Mafia.
"I panicked." He admitted honestly.
Caspian couldn’t judge after that because he knew he would have done the same.
"I-I’m sure we can find a way out of this," He said bravely, a little nervous now.
Because if Mafia King Davian demanded for Lake to be given back to him, even Asher wouldn’t be able to do a thing about that.
Lake wasn’t very hopeful, he might have doomed himself by running off, right after stealing from the Master.
Their conversation was interrupted then by a maid pushing in a mobile tray and wearing a cheerful smile.
Lake noted that she wasn’t wearing a uniform, and she casually chatted with Caspian like they were close friends.
If it wouldn’t be betraying his Mafia King, he would have asked to work here instead.
Learning that Caspian arranged for the workers and some of the men to be fed only strengthened his interest in changing jobs.
He doubted he even had a job waiting for him again, and he still had a debt to pay, so he just might take advantage of Caspian’s kindness further.
As they ate, they didn’t talk much - more like, Lake didn’t talk much and Caspian respected that.
He filled up the space instead with an ambient noise from the television, quietly keeping him company even though he didn’t need to.
Lake watched Caspian get to his feet when his phone started to ring, walking to the other end of the room to pick up the call.
He didn’t even try to listen in, using the opportunity to look around the room now that Caspian’s back was to him.
He didn’t have any bad intentions, he was just stiff from being overtly nervous.
He sat uncomfortably because of that, his back straight, knees pressed together. All of that didn’t help his sore bottom and hurting spine.
Caspian had been very accommodating this entire time, it was just so very new for Lake to experience this so he was rightfully anxious.
"Asher is back," Caspian informed him, the trepidation in his voice hard to hide.
"O-Oh," Lake mumbled, at a loss for what to say.
"Just sit tight while I go talk to him."
Lake nodded at the orders, his chest jutting out slightly as he tried to sit even more straighter than he already was.
Caspian gave him one last worried look before leaving, and Lake couldn’t help but feel bad that he had dragged him into his mess.
