Chapter 147: +Chapter 147+
"I’ll stay back tomorrow to oversee the renovations to the house," Jael spoke casually as they ate.
This caught both Caspian and Asher’s attention, matching frowns on their faces.
Jael wasn’t just saying it because Asher insisted on having Caspian sit on him although that made it doubly difficult for either of them to eat.
It was also because they were together, so it was the perfect time to have this conversation.
"Renovations?" Asher cocked a brow, "Didn’t know you took an interest in interior decorating."
Jael kept a poker face on, "I’ll need to install reinforced steel doors in your bedroom, as well as better outfit the spare bedroom with safer bondage items." He recited.
Realization dawned on Caspian as he remembered what Jael was talking about, while Asher’s frown deepened.
"There has to be a better way to phrase that," He muttered darkly.
Jael’s expression twitched a bit at that, but he managed to keep a blank expression as he kept talking, "I’m thinking that some sort of alarm security is necessary."
Caspian was intently focused on this conversation, "I think I’d prefer that to a tranquilizer gun," He said honestly.
Asher’s expression soured as he listened to them go back and forth on ways to keep him contained.
He didn’t mind, he was just concerned that they had to go to so much trouble.
After dinner, Jael rose to his feet with an almost hesitant expression. "Are you both interested in watching a movie with me?"
Asher glanced up at him with humor in his eyes, it was such easy picking for him to get back at Jael for the conversation they had over dinner.
But he couldn’t dim the hopeful light in Jael’s eyes, plus the Beta rarely asked to willingly spend time with them.
Caspian rose to his feet with lights in his eyes, "In the cinema room?"
With all that had happened over the past several days, it just dawned on him that he was yet to see the cinema room that Asher had made for him.
"Yeah," Jael answered, leading the way, Caspian sticking to his side.
This left Asher to walk behind them, going green with jealously.
"Have any ideas for what to watch?" Caspian asked earnestly, even as he considered if he should ask for popcorn although they just had dinner.
"I was thinking that a bigger screen might make horror movies scarier," Jael answered, his monotone voice managing to hold just the right amount of excitement.
Caspian gulped at that, he didn’t need a bigger screen to make horror movies scary.
But he was supposed to be taking a sabbatical from crime shows so he really had no counter to that.
He was starting to really think that he should just get popcorn for himself, he would need it to comfort him for what he was about to go through.
"Caspian and I are in the middle of a crime show," Asher interrupted, clearly sulking.
Jael shot him a look over his shoulder, "That was days ago, Caspian is taking a creative break off crime shows."
Asher clammed up at that, he didn’t know what Caspian had been up to recently, and it was all his fault.
He was the one that cultivated the distance between them after all; that’s why he didn’t know something as mundane as the shows he was currently into.
It wasn’t really mundane when he thought about it, because he was supposed to watch those shows with him.
Caspian looked over his shoulder, jumping on the chance to escape the horrific ordeal he was about to go through.
"We can watch crime shows if that’s what Asher wants," He said hopefully.
Jael wasn’t having it, not about to let the Alpha off easy. "He can watch his after we watch ours."
Asher glared at the back of Jael’s head, knowing that his second-in-command could feel it. If Caspian wasn’t there, he would have long put him in a chokehold.
Caspian gulped again, inching closer to a meltdown. Yeah, he was going to need that popcorn.
"Popcorn would be perfect for movie night-" He barely got all of his words out before Asher was interjecting.
"I’ll get some for you," He was quick to jump on the chance, walking off while they both continued the journey to the cinema room.
Caspian looked longingly at him as he left, he had been relying on Asher’s presence to get him through the horror movie.
"He’ll be back," Jael reassured him, picking up on his mood change.
Caspian wasn’t worried about that, he was worried about the movie starting before then.
The sight of the cinema room made him momentarily forget about the ordeal he was about to go through.
It was very much like a miniature cinema, only with far less seats. The screen was just a big though, taking up an entire wall.
The lights in the room were turned on, the screen off. After guiding him to a front seat, Jael walked over to fiddle with the lights and put on the television.
Caspian sat with increasing trepidation as the lights went off one after the other, the screen the only thing illuminating the room.
"I didn’t know how much..."
He missed Asher silently slipping into the room and taking the seat beside him, so he was startled by the Alpha suddenly speaking.
"Ahhh!" He flinched violently, catching Jael’s attention.
"What happened?" He called from the backroom.
"Nothing," Caspian was quick to reassure him, focusing on Asher. "Sorry about that," He added in a quieter voice, wincing. "What were you saying?"
"That I didn’t know how much popcorn you wanted," Asher repeated, holding a small bathtub full of the snack.
Caspian focused on what Asher was holding for the first time, not really surprised that Asher would bring that much.
"This is perfect, thank you." He whispered like they were in an actual cinema, settling the popcorn on his legs.
He really meant his words, because it was just the right height to hide behind when the movie got too much to bear.
If Jael noticed the ridiculous size of the popcorn bucket, he said nothing about it, the screen darkening as the movie started.
An earsplitting scream from Caspian had him reaching for popcorn, he had a feeling that would be happening more frequently as the night went on.
Asher was the only one concerned, "It hasn’t started yet."
Caspian cleared his throat, "I’m warming up for when it does."
Jael had to admit, he was impressed by Caspian holding back from throwing popcorn at the screen.
Having that replaced with unexpected screaming wasn’t as impressive, however.
Asher quickly picked up on the fact that Jael was enjoying Caspian’s reaction more than the movie on screen.
But he let it continue for a few minutes more because Caspian clung to him each time, he was jump scared.
He was quick to stop it afterward, but Jael had already had his fill, Caspian transitioning smoothly to a criticizing detective when a crime show was put on instead.
Jael had to admit, watching detective shows with Caspian was far better because then Asher joined in.
Having them argue over who the killer was and watching Asher lose every time was more entertaining.
They spent a lot of hours watching movies, Caspian being the first to nod off.
The Omega being the first to fall asleep might have something to do with how much popcorn he had put away even though they already had dinner.
He slept with a hand in the popcorn bucket, holding a fistful of the sweet crunchy snack.
Jael watched Asher struggle for a bit to get Caspian to release the popcorn in his small hand, leaning back to stare at the dark roof.
"You’re really lucky," He mumbled.
Asher paused to glance up at Jael, a wave of bitter sweetness washing over him.
He was, and he had taken that for granted so many times.
"I’ll clean up, go to sleep." Jael added before Asher could scramble to find something to say.
"I’ll be back," The Alpha promised instead, hazel-gold eyes intense.
"Don’t..." Jael refused but Asher was already carrying a fast-asleep Caspian out of the cinema room.
Jael cursed under his breath; he knew that the Alpha would come back just to fall asleep.
And he would have to be the one the drag him off to bed.
Asher wanted to join Caspian after helping him to bed but he turned around and started for the door.
He knew the words Jael had said to him all too well because he told himself that all the time.
But it also made him realize how inconsiderate they had been to him, especially as he was still dealing with the loss of Lucy.
So, he silently slipped back into the cinema room to find Jael silently watching the show, Caspian’s left-over popcorn in his hands.
"You didn’t have to come back," Jael said without turning around.
"I just wanted to keep you company," Asher tried to say casually.
"Don’t fall asleep here," Jael cautioned.
Asher was miffed by that, "I won’t. Here, I’ll even watch horror with you."
"There’s no fun in watching horror with you." Jael said bluntly.
Asher ignored him, changing the movie before coming over so sit right beside Jael.
