Chapter 102: Chapter 101. Giving Heart

Sarah widened her eyes and grabbed her blanket so she could pull up and sit instead of lying down. It wasn’t the kind of story she could just listen to while lying around.

"She knew she was sick and didn’t have a long time left," Hajin continued nonchalantly, but there was a hint of bitterness in his dry voice. "Rather than trying to get treatment there, she flew here to see him for the last time--not to meet, just to see him from afar with her own eyes."

"Oh..." Sarah bit her lip, her hand finding Hajin’s unconsciously. "Was that why you were on a bad term with her?"

"Yeah," Hajin looked down with a smile, rubbing the hand that was holding his. "When she woke up after the surgery, I told her I finally understood," he chuckled. "I don’t condone the affair she had, but I know what it felt like to be enslaved by one’s feelings."

"So you made peace with her," Sarah muttered. There was a slight envy for having a chance to see and talk to one’s mother for one last time, but she quickly dismissed such a thought.

One could only hope for one miracle anyway. If her regression helped Hajin reconcile with his mother, wasn’t that good too?

Hajin saw the slight, shirt turbulence inside the black eyes and held the girl’s hand tighter, taking it to his lips. "Thanks to you, Princess."

Sarah took the deep stare and this time, instead of pulling her hand away, she pulled the person toward her, finding his lips with her own. Hajin widened his eyes for a second before laughing into the kiss and holding the girl back in his arms.

That was, before he suddenly groaned and startled Sarah with it. "W-what?" Sarah blinked in confusion when Hajin curled up over her blanketed lap.

"I was acting so pathetic!" Hajin groaned and clutched his head as if remembering his dark eighth-grader emo era. "So uncool!"

Sarah tilted her head. Was this guy lamenting the fact that he was crying and begging? Or the fact that he was so lost in his own assumption that made him lie to her?

"Heh," Sarah snorted and flicked the top of Hajin’s head--and then once again in his forehead when Hajin looked up in surprise. She sighed and added exasperatedly. "I won’t like you if you just show me your cool side."

Hajin blinked slowly, once and twice while the rest of him was staying still. Sarah kind of thought that he looked like those dolls with blinking eyes--which she thought was scary and never wanted to have one no matter how pretty the clothing was.

After what felt like almost a minute, the broken puppy finally opened his mouth. "Say that again, Princess."

"What?" Sarah frowned slightly in confusion. "I won’t like you--?"

"So you like me?" the big puppy shoved his face in front of Sarah.

She leaned back in surprise, shielding herself from the sparkly eyes with her hands. "Huh? Well...of course?" she tilted her head as she looked at Hajin incredulously. "What part of giving my heart tells you otherwise?"

"Well...that’s right..." the mighty bodyguard stretched his lips in a goofy grin. "That’s true, isn’t it?"

"Stop grinning," Sarah grabbed the man’s cheeks and squeezed them.

Hajin curled his eyes and spoke through his squashed lips. "Can you say it again?"

"No."

Hajin pursed his lips at the firm rejection, but he was satisfied with the blush across Sarah’s cheeks. He tilted his head and nuzzled the hands on his cheeks. "Can you kiss me, then?"

Sarah pressed her lips for a second, managing the burst of flusters that still came out from time to time even after getting naked together, before leaning forward and planting her lips firmly on his lips.

"There," she ended the kiss after three seconds and pulled away. "Satisfied?"

"Hmm..." Hajin tilted his head, clearly looking not satisfied as his hand sneaked back inside her blanket. "What about--"

"No!"

"Aww~"

Hajin faked a disappointed face while stroking the lean waist beneath the blanket--right as a growling sound came out from her stomach.

"Oh, right..." Sarah pressed her protesting stomach while checking the little clock on the nightstand. "We skipped lunch--"

Hajin suddenly gasped and widened his eyes, staring at the bedroom door with parted lips.

"What?" Sarah frowned, half-surprised and half-curious.

Hajin slowly shifted his gaze toward the girl, swallowing nervously. "Umm...Princess..."

"W-what?"

Sarah turned her head to the door in panic at his nervous tone. Could someone be there eavesdropping on them? Thinking back, they had been loud since Sarah confronted Hajin, shouting and crying and everything. Not to mention the sounds they made on the bed...

They had already soundproofed the annex just in case they would be talking about their plan, but if someone came inside, then it was all for naught, right? Did Hajin even lock the door earlier? Oh, shit--

"I haven’t put the groceries in the fridge yet..." Hajin replied in a daze.

Sarah blinked, trying to digest this statement and wondering what was so bad about it. Her memory came back to something that Hajin was holding when she was confronting her earlier and her face morphed into dread.

"My ice cream!"

Sarah screamed at her precious tub that had been sitting on the kitchen table for hours and scrambled out of bed to rescue it. Hajin ran to follow her with a nightrobe in hand, shouting at the naked girl.

"Wait, Princess--your clothes!"

* * *

"What do you mean you can’t hear them?!"

Mason scowled after the two bodyguards he sent to watch the annex returned without any satisfactory result. It had been hours, and the sun was almost setting, but there hadn’t been any call from Sarah, or anything different from the annex.

"Well...we heard loud voices from inside--like they were fighting or something--but we couldn’t discern what was being said, Sir."

"How?!"

"We’re...not sure, Sir," the bodyguards looked at each other. "It’s like the building is soundproofed."

"What?!"

"We could probably hear something through the window, but that would require us to be spotted on the CCTV," one of the bodyguards said. "Last night, the Young Miss demanded direct access to the CCTV footage around the annex, so she and that bodyguard can see who comes around the annex now."

The other bodyguard nodded in agreement. Truthfully, they just didn’t want Ryu Hajin to come at them with justification to hit them--but there was no way they would tell Mason that.

Fortunately for them, the excuse was quite acceptable, and Mason could only click his tongue in dissatisfaction.

These two were his principal bodyguards, so Sarah would immediately know they were there under Mason’s order. Fuck--this was all because of that stupid kid who thought cutting electricity was a good idea.

Mason massaged his throbbing temple, feeling like it could only be cured by sending Jasper to a military camp. "And that fucker is still there?" he asked through gritted teeth.

"Yes, Sir. No one came out of the annex until we returned."

"We have asked the others at the gate to tell us if that person leaves, but there’s nothing so far," the other bodyguard added.

Fuck!

How could it be? The way Mason imagined it, she should have been kicking the man out of the annex--out of her life. She looked angry when she left earlier, and his bodyguards did hear screaming and shouting from inside. Wouldn’t that mean Sarah was properly angry?

Shouldn’t she be angry enough to kick him out of her space? Or, at the very least, Mason thought she would call him or the head of security to get rid of that bastard. And once the bastard was gone, he would be there to tell Sarah she should have just let him choose her bodyguard and returned to stay in the main house instead of the small annex. He would arrange her quarters to be near his and--

"Wait--could it be that he refused to leave?" Mason frowned deeply while muttering. "Perhaps he’s doing something horrible to her right now..."

Then, shouldn’t he check the annex just in case?

"Umm...but, Sir--"

"What?!"

The secretary who spoke out gulped at the glare he received, but still pushed himself to speak. "Why would he refuse to leave? He’s not interested in the Young Miss and..." he glanced at the laptop used to play the recording earlier. Since he was the one who edited the footage, he knew the content very well. "He doesn’t need the money from her anymore."

Fuck--his secretary was right. But it annoyed him that the man was right, so Mason still kicked the man for simply speaking out when he wasn’t in a good mood.

What is actually happening inside?!

"Sir, can’t we send someone to check?" his head secretary spoke out. "Maybe not someone from our side, but one of the housemaid."

"Hmm?"

"Just send one of them to clean the place or something," the head secretary continued. "Didn’t the house recruit new people lately? We can send one of them and tell the person to report to you directly whatever they find inside."

"Right," Mason nodded. At least his head secretary was a bit better at handling his mood. "Let’s do that. Tell whoever going there to get inside no matter what--send someone naive or whatever."

"Yes, Sir."
