Chapter 115: Charlotte, Welcome Back

Charlotte chuckled and wiped the tears from the corners of her eyes. "You mean ... my ex?"

Aveline chuckled. "Yeah. Your freaking ex."

She gently took Charlotte’s hand and led her to sit, then settled beside her. "Alright, spill everything. I heard you got some help from Mr. Sullivan. Want to talk about that?"

They hadn’t even been together for five minutes, yet the first thing they dove into was Charlotte’s love life.

It seemed like everyone already knew she was close to Damon now.

"Damon’s helped me a lot," Charlotte began.

Then, little by little, she told Aveline everything, from the night she ran away, to how she asked Damon for help, and even the terrifying moment when Julian kidnapped her.

Unlike her other friends, Aveline was the only one who knew that Charlotte wasn’t completely human, she was a werewolf.

But Aveline only knew that because she had always been drawn to the supernatural.

Her grandmother had been a witch, and although no one else in her family followed the same path, Aveline had always been curious.

Without her family’s knowledge, she often read the old books her grandmother left behind. That was how she first learned that other creatures existed in this world.

At first, she thought it was all just fantasy, until one day, she saw Charlotte heal a deep cut on her hand in a matter of minutes.

That was when everything changed. She realized the books weren’t just stories. Supernatural beings were real. And her best friend was one of them.

"That bastard!" Aveline slammed her palm on the table, face red with anger. But as people turned to look, she quickly lowered her head and muttered, "Sorry."

The moment made Charlotte remember when she once confronted Julian at a café. Back then, people stared just like this, as if watching a drama unfold in real life.

"How dare he kidnap you?" Aveline hissed, her voice lowered but still dripping with fury. Charlotte could practically see her friend itching to throw a glass across the room.

"I’m not even surprised," Charlotte said with a tired smile. "He’s always been that kind of person. That’s why it was so hard to reach out to you ... and the girls."

"Charlotte, Charlotte ..." Aveline gently cupped her cheeks and looked into her eyes.

"I’ve already spoken to the girls. No one blames you, okay? They understand, and honestly, they can’t wait to talk to you again."

Charlotte blinked in disbelief. "Really? They’re ... they’re not mad at me anymore?"

"Oh, Charlotte ..." Aveline’s voice softened. "None of us were ever mad at you."

She frowned slightly, thinking for a moment. "We were just hurt and confused ... We thought maybe you wanted to leave us behind. But after hearing what you’ve been through ... how could we ever hate you?"

"We were worried about you. So much." Her voice wavered slightly. "Ever since you married that bastard, our group was never the same again."

They were a group of six—just a bunch of old friends who met back in high school.

Over the years, people came and went, but this group stayed together, at least until Charlotte decided to get married at such a young age.

Some of them were actually against the idea, even Aveline.

They told her she still had so much to explore, so many things she hadn’t experienced yet.

But back then, Charlotte confidently said, "Who says I can’t explore the world after getting married? I can still do it! Julian even promised he’d let me go anywhere I wanted!"

Well ... the reality turned out far from what she had hoped.

The promises Julian made were nothing but sweet lies, empty words meant to trap her like a little ant in a box.

Just like her friends had warned, Charlotte ended up losing all her freedom.

She stopped joining their trips. Actually, forget vacations, she couldn’t even meet them for coffee at a local café.

Back then, her friends thought she was being arrogant. They assumed she was avoiding them on purpose, always rejecting invitations to hang out.

Some even told her to socialize more and stop clinging to her husband.

But what they didn’t know was that Charlotte didn’t avoid them because she didn’t want to see them, she simply couldn’t.

Every time she asked Julian for permission to go out, he’d get angry.

Eventually, Charlotte stopped asking altogether.

"I really ... missed them," Charlotte whispered with a bitter smile. "I wish we could’ve met sooner."

"We can meet," Aveline said firmly. "As long as you’re not too busy, we can pick a date. Don’t worry, you can talk to the girls through the group chat first."

Charlotte hesitated, holding her phone tightly in her hand.

"Do you think they’ll reply?" she asked softly.

Aveline smiled. "Just try."

A few quiet minutes passed before Charlotte finally found the courage to send a message to their old group chat. [I’m sorry if I’m bothering you ... but I just wanted to say, I really miss you all.]

Charlotte thought it might take a while for anyone to respond.

But not even a full minute had passed before her phone started vibrating.

[Isla: Charlotte! My Charlotte! You’re finally backkkk!!!]

[Valerie: Fuck! Am I dreaming?!! CHARLOTTE, YOU’RE BACK TO US?!]

Her other two friends, Tessa and Nora, sent similar messages.

All of them had their caps lock on, flooding the chat with excitement and disbelief.

But not a single one of them, not even one, showed any anger or disappointment toward her.

No one asked why she disappeared. No one complained.

They didn’t need explanations.

Because in their hearts, Charlotte had never stopped being a part of them.

Even after all these years, even with the distance, they were still a group of six.

Charlotte still belonged.

Charlotte was still a part of them.

No matter what happened, she still belonged.

"Why are they like this?" Charlotte murmured, covering her face as she lowered her head, trying her best not to cry.

But the joy swelling in her chest was too overwhelming. Tears streamed down her cheeks like a river.

Aveline gently patted her back and whispered, "Charlotte, welcome back. You finally came home."
