Chapter 71 - 71 71 Clearing Misunderstandings
71: Chapter 71: Clearing Misunderstandings 71: Chapter 71: Clearing Misunderstandings After all, she possessed the power to summon such evil entities as the Undead, and yet she stood here, challenging him without a hint of fear.
If it weren’t for Rolin standing behind her, Lorcan would have unhesitatingly concluded that this woman might be in cahoots with the demons within this corridor.
Violet probably hadn’t imagined that at the moment she suspected him of being a demon, he was harboring similar suspicions about her.
Upon this mutual distrust, the only one who remained calm and watched warily as Lorcan and Violet faced each other was Rolin.
She hoped to persuade both parties to let go of their murderous intentions and settle their differences peacefully.
Eventually, perhaps due to the unspoken understanding cultivated over many years as siblings, Lorcan, upon seeing the anxious expression in his sister’s eyes and her desire for an explanation, chose to back down.
The main issue remained that he simply couldn’t defeat the woman in front of him!
He could feel a trace of fury inside him, a recognition of his own weakness.
After backing down, he explained, “Madam, I assure you I have no ill intentions.
There is indeed a formidable existence hidden within this corridor.
I strongly advise you and my sister to leave here immediately.”
His words prompted Violet to lift up her chin, looking defiantly at him.
This sister-obsessed man!
I knew it!
In the end, Lorcan was merely concerned for his sister’s safety.
He didn’t want Rolin exposed to the potential threat of a demon attack.
Violet studied him, letting out a slight sigh within.
She wasn’t the type to push her luck excessively, especially when she saw how Lorcan managed to keep his sensibility amid his anger, gradually suppressing his emotions.
An angry person wasn’t scary, but a person who could conquer his own anger was indeed a formidable opponent.
His ability to control his emotions indicated his strength was greater than his anger.
She astutely figured that even if this man lacking in raw power had such ability to control his emotions, he was definitely worthy of significant regard.
But nothing was certain yet.
Maybe this man was just overly protective of his sister, and acted the way he did only because of her.
Despite this, Violet did not give him a friendly look.
If Violet continued to be uncompromising, even a man with immense patience would be worn out.
There is a limit to tolerance.
If she continued to obstruct or suspect him, then surely he would misunderstand her intentions and think she was purposely messing with him.
Such deliberate provocation was unwise.
It would inevitably cause an outburst.
Therefore, although Violet was reluctant, she finally chose to withdraw her weapon.
“So you claim to be here to clear out the monsters?
Do you even know what lurks within?” Violet snapped her fingers, signaling the skeleton to put away its weapon.
This was her way of expressing her acceptance of Lorcan’s presence.
Though she was still giving him a defiant look, she had at least laid down her weapons.
This question was simply motivated by the need for efficiency.
Therefore, she asked the man before her what he was seeking in this place.
No human would undertake a seemingly meaningless task without a reason behind it, there must be an agenda.
No matter if it was a confidential plan or a righteous cause, there must be a reason behind it.
Just like Violet herself, who had a compulsive need to clean up filth around her.
However, she wasn’t sure what sort of creature she would possibly confront next.
Lorcan, on the other hand, was different.
He had come here to eradicate something and must be quite familiar with everything here.
One other reason was that he had apparently been in this place for quite some time.
The black blood on him suggested as much; it didn’t look like it was his own.
This man must have slain many demons, perhaps creatures similar to the fluffy creature that now lay on the ground.
That’s why she asked him this way.
However, upon hearing Violet’s question, Lorcan raised an eyebrow.
This woman dared to storm in here without even knowing what was lurking within?!
And she brought his sister along?!
Although her powers were formidable, this irresponsibility still riled his nerves.
She actually asked him about the monsters in here.
While confirming that she is not the master of this corridor, this reckless adventure still significantly lowered her standing in his view.
Did she stumble upon this dark corridor by mere chance?
Lorcan pondered over the answer in his heart, his gaze eventually falling on Rolin.
All the questions and speculations were less important than his own sister.
Therefore, despite his contempt for this woman, he chose to believe his sister and decided to answer Violet’s queries for his sister’s sake.
“There seems to be a demon who was originally a human hiding deep inside here,” Lorcan imparted all he knew.
The command he was given was to annihilate this monster who had forsaken its once human form willingly to become a demon and a minion of darkness.
After saying this, he raised his torch lighting up the wall.
Upon Lorcan’s prompting, Violet looked up to see the grotesque and terrifying carvings on the wall, a sacrificial rite chiseled into the stone.
It seemed to be an ancient ritual for some malevolent deity, with human beings as the offering.
Lorcan said he came here to kill a demon.
He likely wasn’t the artist behind the carvings, and there were no traces of carving dust on the ground.
Perhaps this man was like he said, he was only here on someone else’s orders to kill a demon.
After receiving this definite answer, Violet reluctantly let go of her weapon.
Rolin immediately leaped into the arms of her brother, only Lorcan caught a glance at the strange look crossing Violet’s face in that instant.
He coughed awkwardly, held Rolin by the shoulders, pulling her in front of him.
He glanced at Violet and then at Rolin, seriously asking her,
“What are you doing here?
What’s your relationship with her…?”
Violet, standing on the steps with her arms folded against her chest, rolled her eyes.
She decided to let Rolin do the explaining.
If she interfered, she might provoke Lorcan’s suspicion.
So she chose to say nothing at all.
Seeing Violet’s eyeroll, Rolin began to explain somewhat awkwardly the backstory of the situation, along with why she had appeared here.
