Chapter 64 - 64 64 Suspicion

64: Chapter 64: Suspicion 64: Chapter 64: Suspicion “When Rolin stepped into the room where Ms.

Violet practiced her magic, she did so with a feeling of deep trepidation, not knowing exactly what she might face.

She half expected to see the clean desertion of flesh and blood, the bare bones of the undead, or perhaps ghastly and bloody animal intestines casually displayed on the table.

A putrid smell, reminiscent of corpses, hung heavily in the air, with bugs and rats skittering in the corners of the room, eternally shut off from the rays of the sun.

This was everything she could envision, everything that seemed to match her picture of what the lair of an Undead Lich should be.

Yet the reality was a far cry from her imagination.

None of these dreadful things were present, only the sunlight illuminating the great hall and a feeling of odd warmth.

As Rolin walked into the room, she found none of the grim and terrifying atmosphere she had envisioned, nor any weird decorations matching the taste of an Undead Lich.

Everything was normal.

The arrangement was consistent with human habits, and no bloody and horrific things in sight.

The only slightly peculiar feature was that the room was rather too spacious, because this was originally a banquet hall of the castle master.

After Ms.

Violet designated this place as her own study, all miscellaneous knights from the various banquets were thrown into the storage room.

In her study, after pushing aside all the useless items, all that was left in the center of the room was a large desk, on top of which laid open books and a pen, the smell of fresh ink still lingering.

The moment before she knocked and opened the door, she was still engrossed in her writings, using the chill radiating from the summoned Undead to drive away the feeling of warmth.

There was nothing unnecessary here, everything was in service of one person—Ms.

Violet herself.

From the very beginning, she had no plans to entertain guests here, she preferred her solitude.

Therefore, in this spacious room, aside from the chair where Ms.

Violet was seated, not a single superfluous chair could be found.

Returning to her seat, she snaps her fingers and, with the aid of the first-level spell, Hand of Magic, the wide-open door slowly closes, blocking the curious gaze outside.

Now, this spacious space had become Ms.

Violet’s personal area.

She could do as she pleased without anyone’s prying eyes seeing what was happening in the hall.

This place had become an utterly private sanctuary.

In this vast and open study, without anybody else present, only Ms.

Violet and Rolin stared at each other in silence.

The hall was indeed spacious, the stones on the ground bearing slick traces from constant trampling.

The lord of this castle must have been really fond of hosting balls, which was why the stone floor was so impeccably polished and could even reflect people’s shadows.

The reason this room was built so huge was to free up ample space for dancing.

But Rolin wasn’t here for a dance, rather, she had come to express her request to Ms.

Violet.

Despite the enormous space, it was no sign that she could move about freely.

And there were no other chairs for her to sit on and converse with Ms.

Violet on equal footing.

In the vast space, invisible restrictions were everywhere, controlling everything firmly.

Apart from stepping into the hall and looking around, all she could do was stand in place in silence.

After a moment, she snorted softly without voicing her thoughts that welled up.

She thought that she should leave everything to Ms.

Violet’s judgment.

And so she stood still, waiting for Ms.

Violet to start the conversation.

Yet, Ms.

Violet was equally puzzled at her, unable to figure out why Rolin came to seek her.

Her gaze set on the magic-using woman in front of her, Ms.

Violet first pondered her identity, then recalled what happened after they met.

There didn’t seem to be anything unusual, so what was the motivation that brought this woman to her?

In the end, weary of thinking, and brushing her forehead, she gave up the fruitless endeavor and took the lead to inquire flatly.

“Tell me, what do you want from me?” She frowned slightly, and impatiently asked the question.

Rolin opened her mouth, her downcast eyes flickered, although determined, but she still found herself unable to voice her thoughts.

In spite of the fact that the words were on the tip of her tongue and she was prepared…

She frowned in frustration, appearing discontent with her own behavior.

Since she had already gone that far, what was there to back out now?

Even if what lied ahead was a difficult path she had to tread with staunch determination.

This time, she finally lifted her head, staring squarely at Ms.

Violet.

She stripped off all pretensions and, bowing her head low and meekly, began.

“Ms.

Violet, I wish to learn magic from you.”

Though her tone was calm and controlled as she said that, fear still seeped through, her voice trembling unevenly at the end.

In this spacious hall, anything slightly disruptive was rapidly magnified by the emptiness.

Undoubtedly, Rolin’s fear piqued Ms.

Violet’s curiosity.

Why was this woman so scared when nothing had even happened yet?

Everything was only just beginning.

She hadn’t rejected nor agreed to anything yet, just sitting there as usual, examining her.

Rolin, however, was gripped by fear.

What exactly provoked that?

Her own identity?

What was so frightening about her own identity?

Ms.

Violet was certain she hadn’t divulged her true identity, so all Rolin saw was a slightly stronger magician.

This time, she grossly underestimated her own power and misjudged what it concealed.

She made a mistake.

But following that train of thought, Ms.

Violet finally reached an outlandishly correct conclusion.

Could it be that Rolin was actually spooking herself?

That certainly made sense to Ms.

Violet, who raised her head, her expression turning odd.

It must be true!

Why else would Rolin fear her, even fail to control the emotion?
