Bounty Mercenary Group -
Chapter 34 - 34 34 Identity
34: Chapter 34: Identity 34: Chapter 34: Identity Both of them took a step back, putting a safe distance between each other.
It was then that Violet sheathed her weapon, and Villes took refuge under the leafy shadows.
“The Black Crow Castle you’re seeking is just ahead…
But what exactly are you trying to do?” Violet looked him up and down.
He was carrying an ornamental sword that was more for show than practical use and was venturing through the forest in formal attire, completely unsuitable for battle.
Although this part of the forest was relatively safe, with mercenaries occasionally passing through, it did not mean it was devoid of danger.
Unless one had absolute confidence in their own abilities, no one would casually stroll through the forest dressed as he was.
His identity as a member of the Blood Clan was confirmed, and his style, suffused with an old-world aristocratic air, reminded Violet of the tool she wanted to use.
She couldn’t be sure, but nine out of ten times, the man standing in front of her was the so-called Glorious Noble.
Given his immediate questioning about the way to Black Crow Castle, he seemed to know about the recent troubles there.
Despite the news being widespread among the nearby villages, that couldn’t have happened so quickly.
Unless everything that transpired in Black Crow Castle was connected to this man, or perhaps he was already interested in the place.
Regardless of the situation, it only further confirmed his identity.
“I heard that Black Crow Castle was swept clean by a mercenary guild.
I planned to go there to take over.” He responded cautiously, standing under the tree.
As time passed, the more he could feel the power emanating from the Crimson Spear that Violet held.
It was a weapon that made even his soul shudder in terror.
He thought, this weapon couldn’t possibly be made by humans; she might have come across it by chance in a cave somewhere in the forest.
Even with his strong vampire vitality, Villes wasn’t prepared to experience the feeling of being impaled by such a weapon.
Perhaps, there was some evil rune on it that could devour flesh and blood; this would truly strike fear into the hearts of the Blood Clan, who relied on flesh as a vessel.
For him, it wasn’t just the loss of the flesh, but the potential loss of the everlasting life force.
“Handing over procedures?
Isn’t Black Crow Castle property under the Empire’s jurisdiction?” Violet asked, not noticing Villes’s’ gaze under the shadow.
She raised her eyebrows, surprised by his statement.
This should be the Empire’s territory, and any unclaimed valuable items should belong to the Empire.
Therefore, every mercenary hunting magical beasts, even in life-threatening circumstances, had to relinquish a third of their income as tax to the mayor.
She had never heard of Black Crow Castle having an owner.
It’s been abandoned for hundreds of years at least.
If there were any heirs, they would’ve forgotten the existence of this castle long ago.
What this man was saying was quite strange.
Finally, Villes had an opportunity to reveal his identity, he’d been waiting for this moment for too long!
“In reality, this is not the Empire’s territory, but the land belongs to the Saki Family, and I am a messenger of the Saki Family.
This has been under the Glorious Noble’s rule.”
He felt extremely confident.
Declaring his status as a Glorious Noble would surely make any maiden fall for him.
However, what he anticipated didn’t happen.
Violet just looked blankly at him and then twisted her mouth a bit.
She thought, this guy is truly the one!
At a time when she just wanted to sleep, someone gave her a pillow.
This encounter was just too lucky to describe with words!
Instead of the adoring gaze he had anticipated, Violet simply retracted her weapon.
What did this mean?
Had the people outside forgotten about the Glorious Nobles after all these years?
Out of safety considerations, they’d been living in seclusion in the castle for many years.
The only passage to the outside world was sealed with magic, preventing mercenaries from entering easily.
But in reality, the whole continent was still under the actual rule of the Glorious Nobles and the Empire.
Had the world forgotten such powerful entities already?
That was utterly unacceptable!
Looking at Violet’s reactions, Villes suddenly felt overwhelmed.
However, the words that Violet said next truly hit him like a bolt out of the blue.
She said, “I’m the captain of the Bronze Shield Mercenary Corps Group, so, do you need anything?”
How was that possible?!
Only a mage of fourth rank or higher could summon undead.
Without proper guidance from the Mage Council, even the most gifted among the common mercenary mages would only be able to self-study up to the third rank.
Communicating with beings from the underworld and summoning them to fight was among the most complex of all magics.
She discovered a method to summon undead on her own, without anyone teaching her the right way to communicate with the underworld.
Calling her a genius would be an understatement!
Another doubt arose… He remembered the leader of the Bronze Shield Mercenary Corps Group being a man!
“Miss, please stop joking around,” he coughed, letting out an awkward laugh.
She must be joking.
She must be a student from the Mage Council and her claim about being the captain of the Bronze Shield Mercenary Corps Group was just her having fun.
“You don’t believe me?”
Violet looked at him curiously and then glanced down at her attire, a cheap, purple robe common on the streets.
The attire was practically a universal uniform for mercenaries.
The designs were more or less the same, the only difference being the colors.
However, since he chose not to believe her, Violet had no choice but to display proof of her captain’s position.
It was a necklace she had ripped off a poor guy’s neck, which she had kept with her ever since.
Unfastening her collar, she revealed the copper tag, which bore the emblem of the Bronze Shield.
In the whole world, there should only be one like this.
Its value was not significant.
It was merely a souvenir from the Mercenary Guild.
If seen with ordinary vision, one wouldn’t be able to see the emblem on the tag from the distance between Villes and Violet’s chest.
But a member of the Blood Clan could.
Villes said nothing.
He was so stunned he didn’t know what to say.
What exactly happened just now?
He asked inwardly, dumbfounded, and shook his head.
