Chapter 85: Chapter 80: Trusting Damian (1)

Gabriel’s body softened against his, and Damian could feel the change—acceptance, trust. His lips pressed against Damian’s, tentatively at first, but then, with increasing urgency, his tongue responded to Damian’s rhythm. It was a silent, intimate dance, a conversation between them that did not require words.

Damian deepened the kiss, bringing Gabriel closer and pressing his lips harder against his. He coaxed him into it with gentle, unhurried movements, allowing the heat of the kiss to gradually build. The world outside seemed to fade away, leaving only Gabriel’s taste, the warmth of his mouth, and the silent promise that this was only the beginning.

When they finally broke apart, both of them gasping for air, Damian’s hand stayed on the back of Gabriel’s neck, his fingers tracing small circles. Gabriel’s eyes were wide, his lips swollen from the kiss, and his breathing was unsteady. Damian’s heart raced, but he leaned in again, gently pressing his forehead against Gabriel’s, as if to ground them both in the quiet aftermath of their kiss.

The cold air from the open high windows woke Gabriel up, and he tried to escape Damian’s embrace. He blushed as he remembered what had happened just moments before.

"Ah, don’t do this to me." Damian said, shifting their position so Gabriel could sit on his lap.

Gabriel’s pulse quickened as Damian shifted them. As he tried to adjust to the abrupt change in their proximity, he felt a rush of warmth and embarrassment wash over him. Damian’s soft pressure on Gabriel’s waist kept him steady, but his mind was racing with confusion, excitement, and a hint of uncertainty. He had just broken down walls he had no idea existed, and now he felt as if he was on the verge of something bigger, something he had not anticipated.

Damian’s voice was low and smooth, like velvet against his ear. "I didn’t think you’d be this shy after all that," he teased, his fingers slipping under Gabriel’s shirt, feeling the warmth of his skin, tracing the delicate muscles of his back. It was a simple touch, but the way his fingertips lingered made Gabriel gasp.

"I..." Gabriel started, his throat dry, unable to find the words. The heat of Damian’s body beneath him was undeniable, the weight of his hands on his skin grounding him in the moment. He wanted to pull away, put some space between them, but Damian’s presence was so overwhelming—so magnetic—that it was impossible to resist.

He wondered how he would feel if Damian wanted to use his pheromones to mate while he was melting under his bare touch.

Damian’s lips curled into a small, knowing smile. "It’s okay," he murmured, his voice quiet but full of something darker. "You’re safe here. You’re with me."

Gabriel’s heart pounded in his chest, but it wasn’t fear that made it race—it was the realization that Damian’s words felt true, that his embrace felt right in a way that nothing else ever had. Even so, the weight of what had just happened lingered in the air, and Gabriel could not shake the unease that was creeping up his spine.

"I won’t do anything more than that."

Damian’s words hung in the air, and Gabriel’s chest tightened at their weight. The sincerity in his voice, the quiet assurance, did little to slow Gabriel’s heartbeat. He wanted to believe Damian, to trust him completely, but the fear of losing control, of giving up too much, lingered in the back of his mind.

Gabriel shifted slightly in Damian’s lap, the sensation of the man’s hands against his skin making it difficult to think clearly. Damian’s touch was both grounding and intoxicating, his fingers tracing the contours of Gabriel’s back in an almost possessive manner, but not in a way that made Gabriel want to pull away. No, it was something else. It was a claim, soft and insistent but not forceful. The touch suggested patience rather than urgency.

Damian’s gaze was unwavering as he met Gabriel’s gaze, carefully studying him. "You don’t have to rush. We don’t have to go any further if you’re not ready." His voice remained gentle and low, as if he were trying to read Gabriel’s every reaction, as if he wanted to understand him better than anyone else ever had.

Gabriel realized he had already done far more than he intended, and Damian’s hands under his shirt were ready to take more, to claim him right there and then. But he couldn’t; it was not the right time or place.

He could feel Damian’s steady gaze drawing him in, coaxing him to be honest, even though he was not sure what he was feeling.

Damian’s hands rested on Gabriel’s back, as if sensing his tension. He did not rush to pull Gabriel closer or press him further. Instead, his touch softened, smoothing over Gabriel’s skin in a reassuring manner, as if he were giving him space without completely letting go. It was a delicate balance, enough to make Gabriel feel secure while also reminding him of their undeniable chemistry.

"I won’t push you, Gabriel." Damian’s voice was quiet, low, and heavy with meaning.

Gabriel’s heart ached, both for Damian’s raw honesty and for the realization that he had already opened himself up in ways he never imagined possible. The tension between them was thick and the air heavy, but it felt different now.

Gabriel swallowed the lump in his throat, unconsciously gripping Damian’s shoulders. He did not know how to explain it, but something inside him was stirring, wanting to break through the barriers he would built up over the years. But he was still unsure. He wasn’t used to feeling this vulnerable, this exposed.

"I..." Gabriel began, his voice shaky but genuine. "I don’t know if I’m ready. I need to take this slow." He looked at Damian, his expression conflicted but soft.

Damian’s eyes softened, and a smile formed at the corners of his lips. He nodded slowly, accepting Gabriel’s words without disappointment. "Slow is exactly how we’ll go," he agreed, his thumb gently stroking Gabriel’s back. "I’ll follow your lead. Whenever you’re ready, Gabriel."

Damian said it without expectation or pressure, which allowed Gabriel to breathe again. He realized that, despite the whirlwind of emotions swirling within him, he wasn’t alone in this. There was no rush. They had time. And maybe, for the first time in a long while, that was enough.

Damian’s hands slowly moved away from Gabriel’s back, giving him the space he required while not completely pulling away. His touch was still present, a constant reminder of their bond. Gabriel’s pulse had slowed, and the storm inside him had subsided, replaced by a quiet sense of warmth.

Gabriel took another deep breath, slowly resting his hands on Damian’s chest and feeling his heartbeat. There was still so much he did not know, so many questions and uncertainties swirling around inside him. But it didn’t matter right now. He didn’t have to have all the answers.

He leaned in, pressing his forehead to Damian’s chest, a soft and intimate gesture that grounded them both in the present moment. "Thank you," Gabriel said softly but sincerely. "For being patient with me."

Damian’s hand rested gently on the back of Gabriel’s neck, his fingers tracing the mark, a gesture both comforting and possessive in the most tender way. "There’s no need to thank me. I’m here, Gabriel, in whatever way you need me to be."
