Chapter 92: I AM MATED

{"I recognized you the moment I saw you. I knew we belonged. I knew I was born to protect you". }

Around midday, we convened at the Bay Shifter conference hall. Anticipation filled the air, creating a heavy atmosphere of unspoken words engulfing the room like dense fog. All council members were present, occupying their designated seats. Rou, Rita, and Ralph stood at the forefront, their eyes keen and scrutinizing.

Wave stepped forward; his voice steady as he introduced three new members to the Bay Shifter pack from the Mortas family.

"General Mac Mortas, his brother, Enforcer Troy Mortas, and finally, Female Commander Belle Mortas."

As they stepped into the hall, the murmurs of the council quieted. The Mortas name carried weight, it was a family known for its discipline and unwavering loyalty.

General Tiger was the first to respond, his deep voice resonating through the chamber. The Mortas family has been instrumental in protecting our borders. It is only fitting that they take their place within the Bay Shifter council."

I met the newcomers’ gazes, assessing the strength and resolve in their eyes. There was no doubt, they had already proven themselves through action.

I gave a firm nod. "You have our respect. Congratulations on becoming part of the council."

In unison, they straightened their backs and responded with unwavering voices, "Thank you, Alpha Tor."

The room buzzed with warmth as congratulatory messages poured in. The Bolt family spoke first, their words filled with pride and encouragement. Wave followed with a strong nod, his approval carrying weight. Flora, Mercury, and the Astor family each took turns expressing their support, and soon after, Crystal, Lyly, and Blossom added their voices to the mix. Finally, Spark and the Rou family spoke, their words sealing the moment with a deep sense of unity.

For the first time in a long while, I felt the shift in the air. The usual tension that loomed over our gatherings had lifted, replaced by an almost tangible sense of camaraderie.

General Tiger rose from his seat, his presence commanding attention. "We have deployed five hundred guards to the borders of Sagstone Mountain," he announced. "They will ensure that the coexistence between the Rogourau beasts and the Shifter wolves is honored."

A murmur of approval swept through the room as heads nodded in agreement. The plan was in motion, and it was clear that every leader present was ready to uphold the fragile balance we had fought to establish.

Flora stood next; her eyes sharp with determination. "I will leave Bella in charge of the commanders," she declared. "She will be assisted by Blossom and Lily to ensure stability while I focus on other matters."

I appreciated her decisiveness, command was best left in capable hands, and Bella was more than suited for the role. Then Spark stepped forward. His voice was measured, but there was a firm edge to it. "I will oversee the Bay Shifter Pack while Alpha Tor is away on a secret mission," he stated. "It’s best that the pack remains unaware of his whereabouts for now."

Silence followed his words, the weight of my upcoming departure settling in. I met the eyes of those around me, knowing this was necessary. What lay ahead was not a journey I could afford to take lightly.

I took a deep breath, steadying myself before speaking. "I trust each of you to hold the pack together. Our survival depends on it. I will be going to Ragar Mountain and then to Hanka Island." I let my words settle in the air for a moment before continuing. "The reason for my leaving is because I am mated."

A sharp intake of breath echoed across the room.

"What?" Elder Mercury and Crystal gasped in unison; their expressions frozen in disbelief.

The Mortas family sat rigid in their seats; their faces filled with shock. I could see it in their eyes, this was the last thing they had expected to hear. Even those who had remained silent before were now shifting uncomfortably, processing the revelation.

I pressed on, my voice unwavering. "I am mated to Freyr Kayne."

Murmurs rippled through the council hall like a wave crashing against the shore.

"A vampire?" someone whispered, barely audible but laced with alarm.

I met their gazes head-on and nodded. "Yes. A vampire. The son of the late Lord of the Vampire Coven, Dunco Kayne."

A stunned silence followed. The weight of my words hung heavy in the air. It was one thing to accept alliances with other supernatural beings, but for the Alpha of the Bay Shifter Pack to be mated to a vampire, especially one from such a powerful lineage, was beyond what any of them could have imagined.

I could feel the tension thickening, the unspoken questions hanging between us like an approaching storm. But I stood firm, my resolve unshaken.

"This bond was not a mistake," I declared, my voice resolute. "It was destined. My Lycan, Gale, chose him, recognized him as his mate, and our beasts merged. His vampire beast and my Lycan beast are now one. In this lifetime, Freyr is my destined mate."

A sudden burst of laughter broke through the tense atmosphere.

Mercury Bolt.

His laughter echoed through the council hall; his amusement barely contained. "Freya?" he scoffed. "Are you telling me that the young lady ’Freya’ was Freyr Kayne?"

I met his gaze without hesitation and nodded. "Yes. That was indeed Freyr Kayne."

Silence settled over the room once more as the weight of my words sank in. I could see the gears turning in their minds, the realization dawning.

"He came to the Bay Shifter Pack to help me identify the source of the Vampire Stone bugs," I continued. "It was his knowledge, his insight, that led us to the nest. He was the one who helped us destroy it, who exposed Fennel and the triplets. Without him, we would not have achieved such a significant victory."

I took a steady breath, scanning the faces before me. "That is why I need to leave for a while. There is more at stake than just our pack. We are facing an enemy greater than we’ve known, and if we do not prepare, if we do not stand together, we will not survive."

The murmurs resumed, softer this time, tinged with contemplation rather than outright resistance. Some still looked wary, but there was no denying the truth, I had spoken from the depths of my soul, and they had heard me.

I took a deep breath and let my gaze sweep across the room, locking eyes with each of the council members. "I ask for your support and understanding. My mating with Freyr Kayne is a bond given by the Moon Goddess herself. One day, you will all understand why it had to be this way."

The weight of my words settled over them like a heavy fog, uncertainty flickering in their expressions. I clenched my fists and pressed on.

"I need your support in keeping this a secret from the pack members, at least for now. Let me be the one to tell them in due course. Forces are working behind the scenes, manipulating events, trying to drive a wedge between Paradise Coven and the Bay Shifter Pack. If they succeed, it will lead to war."

A murmur rippled through the hall, concern and tension rising like a tide.

"We all know what that kind of war would mean," I continued, my voice steady but firm. "The bloodshed would be greater on our side. Our people, the very ones we swore to protect, would suffer the most. We cannot allow that to happen."

I let out a small chuckle myself, feeling the weight on my shoulders lighten just a little. "Thank you," I said, nodding at the Mortas family. Their unwavering support was a relief.

General Tiger smirked. "It seems the Mortas family has spoken. No turning back now."

Wave, Spark, and Flora followed suit, nodding in agreement. Even Rita, who was always more reserved, had a small smile tugging at her lips.

Rou, however, sighed dramatically. "Why can’t council meetings in the Rou be this straightforward?"

His son Ralph burst into laughter. "Because, father, in the Rou, everyone thinks they have the last word."

A ripple of laughter spread through the room, easing some of the tension that had been lingering. It was a rare moment of levity, but one I welcomed. It reminded me that despite everything, despite the threats looming on the horizon, I wasn’t alone in this fight.

I straightened, my expression turning serious again. "Then it’s settled. Tomorrow, we head to Ragar Mountain. After that, my journey to Paradise Coven begins while Ralph will lead Rita and Flora to Sagstone Mountain"

"Why is it the men that always want to lead?" Rita complained and earned another bout of laughter.

"Because you are stubborn and reckless, "Ralph rubbed Rita’s hair, and she blushed as we all stood up and left the conference room.

"Thank you for" Rou stated as we prepared to leave.

"For what?" I asked, though I knew it was because his family was now safe.

"For the fact that you will be a great leader and I am glad that I am alive to see it. You might not know it but you are a breath of fresh air and I am glad that we met in this lifetime "He smirked and walked away.
