Chapter 91: THE PAST ABOUT THE GALE FAMILY

Chapter 91: THE PAST ABOUT THE GALE FAMILY

{"Other things may change us, but we start and end with the family"}

"Why was I not aware of all this?" I demanded, rising to my feet, anger pulsing through me like a wildfire.

Rou met my gaze, unflinching. "There is so much you don’t know about the past," he said, his voice steady but heavy with meaning. "The Gale family, your family, they are the protectors of the wolf shifter beast. They are born Lycans, witches, and seers."

I clenched my fists, my mind racing to keep up with his words.

"The Rogourau family of beasts obeys the Alpha, but their true leader is the Lycan shifter king," he continued. "I know it may not make sense to you yet, but your Lycan awakening... it’s more than just a shift. It’s magic. Your beast is the rightful ruler of the Bay Shifter realm. We are all meant to pledge allegiance to you."

The weight of his words settled over me like a crushing force. The power I had yet to fully understand—the responsibility that came with it, was enough to make anyone wary.

"You can imagine how this would terrify those who covet your power," Rou added, his tone darkening. "And what makes it even worse? You are mated to Freyr Kayne."

My breath caught.

"This will be a cause for someone to stir even more trouble," he said gravely. "I suspect that’s why Althea refuses to come out of hiding. She took the biggest hit when she saved us from that mad witch, and she won’t return until the chaos settles."

He exhaled, rubbing a hand over his face. "I always knew there was magic in Hanka Island... but I never truly understood what it was."

"Hanka Island is guarded by Gerod, the dragon," I explained to Rou, my voice firm despite the storm brewing inside me.

His brows furrowed, his fingers tightening around the cup in front of him. "A dragon?" he echoed, his skepticism barely masked.

"Yes," I confirmed. "Freyr and I stumbled into the hidden magical place by accident... or at least, that’s what we thought. That was when we met Gerod. He told us about the evil magic brewing in Blood Stone Mountain. But more importantly, he warned us, our mating was not a mistake. It was destined."

Rou’s expression darkened, but he said nothing, so I continued.

"Gerod said that if anyone were to control our mating bond, it would mean the end of the realm. Not just for the Bay Shifter Pack, but for the Paradise Vampire Coven as well." I met his gaze, my pulse thrumming with unease. "The magic in Hanka Island recognizes our bond. Every time Freyr and I step foot on that land, we feel it rise, ancient, powerful, alive."

Rou exhaled sharply. "Then that must be why Endora Cobalt went there."

I nodded grimly. "That’s what I fear. She must have been searching for Gerod’s magic... but she failed. Althea stopped her before she could take it."

"But it seems Endora’s magic was too evil," I continued, my voice heavy with thought. "It didn’t just threaten the realm, it affected Althea’s powers, forcing her to keep away from the Bay Shifter Pack. She couldn’t risk her presence drawing more danger."

Rou’s expression remained unreadable, but I knew he was listening intently.

"I first met her at the beach," I revealed, the memory surfacing like a tide pulling at my consciousness. "She was cleansing her powers, but she wasn’t in control of her wolf. She was weak... fading." I clenched my fists. "I had to help her. The only thing I could do was give her my blood. It was a temporary solution, but it saved her life that day. And since then, I’ve felt this connection with her."

Rou exhaled, his fingers drumming on the table. "You mean the nest at the beach was draining her?"

"Yes," I confirmed. "She was keeping the Bay Shifter Pack safe at the cost of her strength. But now that the nest has been destroyed, her powers have stabilized. She will return... but not yet. First, you need to fulfill what she asked of you."

Rou’s gaze sharpened. "And what is that?"

"You need to go to Paradise Coven and meet Freyr’s mother." I let the words sink in before continuing. "People don’t know the full truth about Sierra Kayne, she is more than just a vampire. She carries the bloodline of witches, and her powers might be the key to stopping the evil that’s rising. I believe she is the only one who can bring down that Cobalt witch."

Rou sat back, processing my words.

"We can’t fight this alone," I added. "We all need to work together."

"Why did my grandfather chase Mingan away from the Bay Shifter Pack?" I pressed; my voice edged with frustration.

Rou huffed, his expression darkening. "The problem with shifters," he said, "is that the unknown makes them uncomfortable. Mingan was a seer by birth, and that alone unsettled many. She could foresee the future, and that power frightened them."

I clenched my fists. "But that doesn’t explain why she was forced to leave."

Rou sighed. "A seer is not meant to fall in love," he admitted. "When Mingan did, she lost her sight. Your grandfather saw it as a betrayal, believed she had turned her back on her destiny. He never forgave her... and so he banished her from the Bay Shifter Pack."

Rou’s gaze turned distant, as if recalling a painful memory. "Your grandmother had already passed on by then, and it was Althea who tried to reason with him. But he wouldn’t listen. He was too proud, too stubborn."

I exhaled sharply, anger bubbling in my chest. "And he died holding onto that bitterness?"

Rou nodded. "Yes. He passed away still grieving the loss of Mingan, though he would never admit it. It was years later that he finally relented. He sent guards to bring word to her, to tell her that he had forgiven her. But by then... It was too late. Mingan was too bitter. She refused to see him. And when he died, she didn’t even attend his funeral."

Silence stretched between us, heavy with unspoken regrets. It was a tragedy, one rooted in pride, love, and misunderstanding. And now, it seemed, that past was beginning to shape my fate as well.

Rou’s voice was steady, but I could hear the weight of years behind it. "Before Mingan breathed her last, she made me promise to protect the Lycan that would awaken." His gaze bore into mine, intense and unwavering. "She said you would face your greatest tribulation, and I guess that it’s your mating bond with Freyr Kayne. The world will be in an uproar because of this, but know this—the Rogourau shifter clan will always stand by your side."

I swallowed hard, my heart pounding. "She knew this would happen?"

Rou nodded. "She saw it before it came to pass. She believed in you, believed in the leadership you would provide, the strength you carry. But there is so much at stake, and you cannot face what’s coming unprepared."

He placed a firm hand on my shoulder. "Tomorrow, before you leave for Paradise Coven, we must go to Ragar Mountain. You need to awaken your full power and embrace the strength within you. Only then will you be ready to stand against what is coming."

I nodded at him as he stood up and left the balcony staggering as he made his way to the guest room and finally, I heard a thud and knew he had dropped on the bed and fell asleep. I remained seated at the balcony, with the solace of my thoughts, and then Kayne, my beast stirred.

"I can feel the submissive stance of the Rogourau beast when you appear. They will bow to us," Kayne’s voice echoed in my mind, firm and resolute. "But I agree with Rou—we need to get to Ragar Mountain."

I nodded in silent agreement, my heart pounding with the weight of everything unfolding. Without another word, I turned and descended the stairs, my body already itching for release. The moment I stepped outside, I shed my human form, bones shifting, muscles stretching as my Lycan took over.

The night air was cool against my fur as I launched into a sprint, my powerful limbs carrying me deep into the Bay Shifter lands. The wind howled around me, whispering secrets only the awakened could hear. I ran, faster, harder, until the dense trees opened, and I found myself standing before the caves that led to Hanka Island.

Something in the air crackled with familiarity. Instinctively, I stayed still, letting my senses stretch outward. I listened—to the rustling of the leaves, the distant call of nocturnal creatures, the rhythmic crashing of waves beyond the cliffs.

Then, I pushed my power outward. The wind responded immediately, whipping through the trees with a force that sent leaves spiraling into the night. The once-muted sounds of the forest swelled, the chirping of insects intensified, the rustling of animals in the underbrush became more pronounced. I let Kayne fully emerge, surrendering to the primal connection he shared with nature.

For that moment, we were one. I stood there for nearly an hour, letting the feeling settle deep in my bones. Only when the first hints of fatigue tugged at my limbs did I turn back, shifting into my human form and making my way home.

"Freyr Kayne, I am coming to you, soon" I whispered into the night.

Sliding beneath the covers, I let out a slow breath. The night had given me answers, even if I didn’t fully understand them yet. And as sleep pulled me under, I knew that tomorrow, at Ragar Mountain, more truths would reveal themselves.
