Chapter 33: YOU ARE IN DEEP WATERS
{"My heart tells me this is the best and greatest feeling I have ever had. But my mind knows the difference between wanting what you can’t have and wanting what you shouldn’t want."}
"You’ve got to be fucking kidding me!" Spark yelled, his voice nearly cracking as he paced in circles, running a hand through his hair.
Tiger clapped his hands, laughing so hard he had to lean on the table for support. "This is gold! I cannot, oh, this is going to be legendary!"
Their voices rose in a cacophony of shock booing and disbelief filling the space. I crossed my arms over my chest, leaning back slightly as I watched the chaos unfold.
"Are you done?" I asked dryly, raising an eyebrow at all of them.
Spark pointed an accusatory finger at me, still looking horrified. "This is insane, Tor! Insane! Do you know what this means for the Bay shifter pack?"
"Oh, I do," I replied calmly, a small smirk tugging at the corner of my lips. "And I’ll handle it when the time comes but for now, I will take my time to discover if what is between us is for a lifetime." They all fell into an uneasy silence, the weight of my words settling in.
"Tor, as your brother, I’m telling you, this is a bad idea," Spark said, his voice firm and laced with worry. He crossed his arms and locked eyes with me, the weight of his disapproval pressing heavily between us. "As your Beta, I have to remind you, that the pack comes first."
I met his gaze steadily, exhaling slowly before responding. "I know," I assured him, my voice even but resolute. "But don’t you think it is strange? I went to Hanka Island to hide, to breathe for a moment, only to find someone out there who can move me...even Gale?"
Wave groaned, rubbing his temples as if my words physically pained him. Tiger, however, leaned forward in his seat, his expression curious and serious at the same time.
"What are we going to do then?" Tiger asked, his tone direct. "Paradise Coven is already on edge now that your Lycan has awakened. They see it as a threat."
I rubbed the back of my neck, the tension coiling tighter in my shoulders as I considered my next words. "Here’s the plan," I said, my voice taking on a commanding tone. "The three of you need to investigate why Lord Marcel is so interested in Gale’s awakening and why the vampires have started infiltrating Bay Shifter’s lands. What are they after? It cannot be all about my beast."
The three of them nodded in unison, their agreement clear. Yet, I could feel Spark’s worry radiating off him like a second pulse, the tension rolling through him in waves so strong that even Gale stirred uneasily within me.
I waved a hand toward Wave and Tiger. "You two are dismissed, and thank you for your trust and time," I said, nodding toward the garden’s exit. As for Spark and me, we need to talk to you, brother to brother."
Wave got up, muttering something under his breath about how this day could not get any more exhausting but bowed in respect while Tiger gave me a brief nod, his sharp eyes holding a glint of understanding before he followed Wave out of the garden. Once they were gone, Spark remained seated, his gaze fixed on me like a hawk. I leaned back against the table, crossing my arms as the weight of our unspoken conversation settled over us.
"All right, Spark," I said, my voice softening slightly. "Let’s talk."
Spark moved closer to me, refilling his glass, his eyes never leaving mine. "Spill the beans," he said, his tone sharp as he waited for me to speak as he sipped his drink.
I smirked at him, taking a deep breath before confessing. "I’ve fallen in love with Freyr Kayne."
The moment the words left my mouth, Spark’s eyes widened, and he choked on his drink, spitting it out in shock. I jumped up immediately, patting his back in a desperate attempt to help him regain composure. Once he had calmed down, I sat back down, my smirk still in place, watching him struggle with his frustration.
"Tor, do you even realize what you’re saying?" Spark’s voice was strained, his nostrils flaring as he struggled to process. "Vampires and Shifters don’t mix at all."
I nodded at him, my expression softening slightly. "I thought the same... until I met Freyr. My Lycan beast was awed by his power." My eyes grew distant as I thought back to the overwhelming connection. "I could not resist him. I wanted to be with him."
Spark’s jaw dropped, his eyes widening in disbelief as he leaned closer to me, whispering in shock, "You Lycan beast claimed him?"
I nodded, feeling a sense of relief in being honest with him. "I marked him," I added, the weight of those words settling between us.
Spark stood up abruptly, muttering curses under his breath, his hands rubbing his face in frustration. "Why are you telling me all this?"
I stood too, walking over to him and placing a hand on his shoulder, offering what little comfort I could. "You are my brother, my best friend. You are the only one I can trust with something like this."
He groaned in response, still clearly processing everything. "What’s so special about Freyr, huh?"
I leaned back, my gaze becoming distant again as I remembered the moments we had shared. "He is tall, sexy jaw-droppingly handsome. I could not resist him. He makes my heart race, my skin sizzle with need, and every time I get near him, I want to bite him or take him.
Spark’s eyes locked on me; his expression unreadable for a moment before he finally sighed. "You are fucking screwed," he muttered, shaking his head. "And no one’s going to save you from this."
"I don’t want to be fucking saved. I want Freyr," I responded my voice firm, feeling the weight of my decision.
Spark chuckled, shaking his head. "Oh brother, I knew one day you’d put us into fucking trouble."
We both sat down, and I poured another round of liquor, the silence between us thick with unspoken thoughts. The rest of the bottle was soon drained, the alcohol burning down my throat as I continued to confess everything that had happened since I arrived on Hanka Island. Spark listened intently, his eyes never leaving mine as I recounted the events, how Freyr had saved me, and how I learned from Tiger that Freyr had been sent by Lord Marcel to spy on the Bay Shifter pack’s Lycan awakening.
Spark’s face darkened as he processed the information. "You need to tread carefully, Tor. Vampires are known to be seductive. Do not trust him completely."
I nodded, but my mind was already firm on the matter. "Gale is my Lycan beast, not a fool. I never doubted his power, and neither should you."
Spark exhaled sharply; his frustration evident. "This is too complicated, man. I have a bad feeling that this news is going to cause a ripple effect within the pack, and it will not be a good one."
I leaned back, the weight of the situation pressing down on me. "I just need time to figure it out. Time to process everything and make the right decisions."
Spark studied me for a moment before he spoke again. "Have you heard the voice on Hanka Island again?"
I shook my head, the memory of the unsettling whispers from that place still fresh. "No, we never heard it again. At least, not yet."
He nodded, standing up and we moved to the exit of the Royal Garden. "I will go to the archives, and dig up any information I can about Hanka Island. There has got to be something about its secrets, something we are missing."
As we exited the garden, I could not help but tease Spark. "So, when are you going to claim Wave?"
His steps faltered for just a moment, and I caught the faint blush creeping up his neck. He cleared his throat, trying to play it off. "I don’t know what you’re talking about."
I chuckled, the amusement clear in my voice. "Oh, you know exactly what I am talking about. You have been holding back for too long. It is time to claim him, or someone else will."
I lowered my voice, watching his reaction carefully. "Blossom Sky, Female General of the Pack, and Lily Crest, Female enforcer, both have eyes for him. I have overheard them talking about how hot his behind is and how broad his shoulders are and how it would feel to ride his cock.
The moment I finished speaking, Spark’s eyes flashed with rage. A low growl rumbled deep from his chest, and I could see the anger building in him. He cursed under his breath, his hands clenched into fists as he stormed off ahead of me.
I could not hold back my laughter, the sound echoing in the quiet evening air. I had pushed the right buttons. "That is right, Spark. You have got to claim him before someone else does," I called out, knowing full well I had hit a nerve.
But deep down, I knew I was not just teasing. I wanted Spark to feel the happiness I had found, to feel that connection, that certainty that came from truly claiming someone you cared about. He deserved it just as much as I did.
By the time I got home, I was exhausted, my mind a whirlwind of thoughts that would not let up. After a quick shower, I grabbed a bite to eat, but it did not do much to calm the storm brewing inside me. I crawled into bed, my body heavy with fatigue, but my mind was still racing. I sprawled across the bed, trying to find some semblance of comfort, but it was no use. The only thing that kept replaying in my mind was Freyr Kayne, the way he made me feel, the power he had, the impossible situation I now found myself in.
"Freyr Kayne... what the fuck am I going to do with you?" The words escaped my lips in a whisper, but they were the only thing I could hold on to before I drifted off into a restless sleep.
