Chapter 298: ASHANAI’S END

{"Good wins in the end because evil is a self-destructive"}

Ashanai cursed, her voice rising like a tempest, laced with venom and desperation.

"You fool! Do you think you have won? This world will rot, and your hearts will burn with it! I will return! I—"

Her words twisted into a shriek as Fenrith turned to face the Moon Goddess. She stood calm, luminous, her gaze filled with sorrow and strength, an eternal witness.

Fenrith’s voice rumbled low but firm. "It is time. Her Chapter ends tonight."

Then, in a blur of movement, faster than my eyes could track, he moved. A single slash clean, final tore across Ashanai’s throat. Her scream cracked the air. Dark power spilled like ink from her mouth, from the wound, oozing into the sand that hissed beneath it. She collapsed, choking, gagging, claws digging into the earth. Her eyes met mine, then Freyr’s, wide and disbelieving. She had never imagined this end, and then Fenrith bent, lifted her like she weighed nothing at all. She writhed in his grasp, still gasping, a final scream escaping her lips. A pulse of divine light swelled from the Moon Goddess’s hands, and the world seemed to exhale.

Then, like mist meeting sunlight, Fenrith vanished, taking Ashanai with him, her wails echoing into silence. Only the sound of the waves and the quiet breathing of our people remained, shifters, vampires, Rogourau, all standing together beneath the light of the moon.

Then, the Moon Goddess stepped forward. Her silver glow softened as she looked out at us, sorrow clinging to her ancient eyes. "Ashanai... my sister," she said, her voice both heavy and ethereal. "Her pain became her poison. Her loss became her vengeance."

She took a breath that stirred the wind around us like a mother sighing over her children.

"But it was you, the mortals, who mended what she broke." Her gaze swept across the beac,h wolves still in their shifted forms, vampires bloodied but standing proud, Rogourau beasts silent in awe.

"I thank you all. Each of you, brave souls of this realm. You stood in unity against the storm. You proved that hope, once fractured, can be made whole."

She turned then... to us. To Freyr and me. Her eyes glistened with pride. A small, knowing smile tugged at her lips as she approached. "Your love," she whispered, "has withstood the shadows. It was a bond forged by fate but strengthened by choice... repeatedly."

She placed a hand lightly on my chest, then on Freyr’s. "In your union, the ancient divide between wolves and vampires has begun to heal. I sense new bonds... Rogourau and vampires. Shifters and Rogourau. The realm breathes as one again."

Then she turned and walked to Aurora, who stood tall, her armor scratched, her stance noble. The Moon Goddess smiled gently at her. "With your leadership, child, the peace of this realm will be more than a dream. It will endure."

Aurora bowed low, the light of the moon casting a gentle glow around her.

"Thank you, Goddess," she said quietly, "for guiding accepted blood cold creatures like us."

The Moon Goddess lingered by Aurora, her hand still gently cupping the woman’s chin as she looked into her eyes not with judgment, but with a bittersweet tenderness. The wind carried the scent of salt and starlight. All around us, the beach was silent, every soul listening, hearts open.

Her voice was softer now, but it carried like moonlight itself, impossibly present in every corner.

"All the beings of Paradise Bay," she said, "were once one. Rogourau, Shifter, Vampire, Fae. United."

A hush fell deeper over us. "But the ancient power gifted to them was meant to protect and nourish, but became a temptation. Greed whispered into their hearts, and slowly... the threads of unity frayed. The rise of dominion, of fear, of hunger for control... caused the great divide."

Aurora lowered her eyes, as if she carried the weight of history in her bones.

"But it has always been my wish," the Goddess continued, "to see the realm whole again. To restore what once was."

She turned then and looked directly at Freyr and me. "Kayne, born of night and blood. And you, Gale, born of storm and earth. You were never just warriors. You were answered." My chest tightened. "You did not simply fight for your kind, you loved beyond bloodlines. Beyond borders. That is the truest magic. The oldest magic." A breeze stirred the hem of her glowing robes, wrapping around us like a whisper of eternity.

"Through your union, the heart spring reawakened. Through your courage, the Omega flame endured. And through your bond, the realm remembered itself."

She stepped back, lifting her arms. The moonlight intensified, bathing the entire beachfront in its holy glow. "And now," she declared, "let it be known Paradise Bay is whole once more."

From behind us, a deep, resonant cheer erupted first the vampires, then the wolves, then the Rogourau and finally, all together, one voice, one people and then the Moon Goddess left just as she had come.

We moved as one body, our footsteps light upon the blessed earth of Bay Shifter training grounds. The sky was painted with the blush of dawn, the lingering glow of the moon still silvering the horizon. The battle was over, but what remained now was something far more sacred: peace.

Wave and Spark walked beside us, their strides strong, heads high, though I could still see the edge of exhaustion in Wave’s face. But when we stepped onto the grounds, a wave of cheering erupted.

The pack surrounded them instantly. Wolves howled in celebration. Vampires clapped and roared. Rogourau let out bone-rattling growls of joy. They lifted Spark into the air for a heartbeat before Wave laughed and yanked him down, wrapping his arms protectively around him. Even stoic warriors could not hide their smiles. Children darted between the legs; elders wept quietly with relief.

All around us, faces were lit with something we had not seen in so long ,hope. I stepped forward slowly, Freyr beside me, and raised my hand. Silence fell immediately and the energy of the moment pressed against my chest. I took a breath, feeling the bond between us all, the invisible thread of unity.

"You stood with the realm," I said, voice low but clear. "When the darkness came, you did not retreat. You did not let fear decide your fate."

My gaze swept the crowd. "You all fought together and stood firm against the evil. "A quiet ripple of emotion moved through the crowd. "Each of you, Shifter, Vampire, Rogourau, Omega, held the line not for glory, but for each other. I paused, heart thudding in rhythm with the calm beat of the earth beneath us. "Thank you," I whispered, raw and real. "Thank you for standing with the realm."

The celebration carried on well into the night. Fires crackled in stone circles, their warmth wrapping around the gathered crowd like a protective embrace. Laughter rose like music into the stars, and feet moved in rhythm to the drums that pulsed through the Bay Shifter grounds.

Shifters howled in harmony with the Rogourau beasts, their deep voices blending with the melodic chants of the Paradise Bay vampires. Aurora laughed freely, the firelight catching in her braids as she twirled with Nessa. Even the once-reserved Commander Belisont had a tankard in hand, toasting every victory he could name.

We shared food, wine, stories some true, some growing more exaggerated by the hour. Children chased each other through the grass, fearless now. The scent of roasted meat and sweet berries filled the air, and the moon hung high above us, silver and proud.

Freyr’s fingers found mine somewhere between the last toast and the final dance. We did not speak. We did not need to. His eyes said enough, and when the fires dimmed and the music grew soft with exhaustion, we slipped away from the crowd. The path to my house was quiet, the earth cools beneath our feet. The air held the scent of ocean salt and healing magic, tinged with the faint perfume of blooming night flowers.

We were just steps from the door when I heard feet patter across the grass behind us.

"Tor! Freyr!"

I turned, and there they were, Spark and Wave, catching up in the silver glow of the moon. Spark’s hair was tousled from the wind, eyes still bright with all the emotion that had not yet found words. Wave stood slightly behind him, quieter, but steady now. Alive.

Spark was the first to speak.

"Thank you... Both of you," he said, his voice thick. "For saving him. For not giving up."

I stepped forward, placing a firm hand on his shoulder. "As your Alpha, it was my duty. But as your brother..." I looked him in the eyes, then turned to Wave. "It was what I should have done. What I had to do. We are family. That is all that matters."

Wave swallowed hard, blinking faster than the moonlight allowed. Without waiting another moment, I pulled them both into a hug, one arm around each. Strong, tight. The kind of embrace that said we made it through.

Freyr stepped in silently and wrapped his arms around all three of us, completing the circle. We stood there under the stars, four hearts beating in sync Wolf, vampire, guardian, mate. Family. Bound not by blood, but by love, loyalty... and everything we had survived together.
