Chapter 297: FREY’S WRATH

{ "You must have anger, as rightful wrath is what makes you create your ethical standards." }

We stood frozen at the edge of the shore, the battlefield silent but for the crackle of magic still thrumming in the air. Ashanai trembled beneath the moonlight’s power, weakened, her shadows unravelling under its light, but she had not fallen. Beside me, Freyr took one deliberate step forward. His gaze locked on her, no fear, no hesitation, just burning, ancient resolve.

"Freyr," I said, my voice raw.

He looked back once, eyes aglow with red fire, fangs bared. "She is exposed. I must finish it."

Before I could stop him, he was gone.

In a burst of air and motion, he shifted into his true form vampire, pure and furious. His aura exploded outward, wings of darkness and light forming behind him for a breathless instant before they shattered into mist. He was already across the beach, tearing into the waves.

The water hissed beneath his speed, and he hit Ashanai like a blade of moonlight and vengeance.

Slash one across her chest and another spinning low, cutting through the inky mass of her body. Her scream tore through the night, a wailing sound that made the ocean roil. Freyr did not stop, he moved faster, repeatedly, a storm of blades and rage. The water around them foamed red and black, her essence burning beneath each strike.

I felt her weakening. I felt her breaking, but just as Freyr raised his hand for a final blow, the sea exploded. From beneath the churning waves, something massive rose. A serpentine beast, covered in black coral and dripping with sea rot, towered over the water. Its eyes were ancient and dead and glowing blue like drowned stars.

Ashanai’s scream became a command, and the creature surged upward and struck. Its claws wrapped around Freyr’s body in a blink before he could move, before I could reach him. He snarled, teeth flashing, struggling against the monstrous grip, but it was too late.

With a final lurch, the creature dove back into the sea, dragging Freyr beneath the surface.

Gone.

"NO!" The sound ripped out of me, animal and breaking, and the waves slammed closed over them. The moonlight flickered, and the beach fell silent again except for the roaring of my beast inside me, howling for blood, for vengeance, for Freyr. The wind howled across the beach, salt and blood thick in the air. My heart pounded so loudly it drowned everything else out. I stood frozen, staring at the place in the water where Freyr had vanished, my breath caught somewhere between rage and despair.

Then his voice cut through the mind link. "Watch the power of your mate."

I gasped, spine snapping straight, and the sea trembled.

Suddenly, the water split and Freyr erupted from the depths, a dark blur of strength and wrath, glowing crimson eyes blazing under the moon. In his hand, the head of the sea creature that had taken him. Tendrils of its body still twitched; gaping maw frozen in death. Freyr’s chest heaved, water cascading off his frame like he had been forged from the ocean itself. Ashanai shrieked a sound of fury and fear. Before she could vanish into the waves again, Freyr moved faster than lightning, faster than thought.

He grabbed her by the throat. "Not this time."

And with a vicious snarl, he hurled her. Her body flew and slammed into the sand with a bone-cracking thud, the force of it sending shockwaves across the beachfront. The shadows around her writhed and screamed, scrambling away as if they, too, had felt the breaking of her power. Then, silence and it was, it was followed by a roar, and the entire beachfront erupted.

Shifters howled, wolves lifting their muzzles to the sky in triumph. The Rogourau beasts roared, pounding their chests. The vampires of Paradise Bay let out piercing, echoing cheers, fangs glinting in the moonlight. Victory rang like thunder.

Freyr stood there, soaked and shining like vengeance given form, and when he turned to look at me, the bond between us flared bright and unbreakable. My mate. My warrior. My heart. And at that moment, I knew Ashanai would fall.

We stood in a solemn circle, warriors of every kind—shifter, vampire, beast—our chests rising and falling with the remnants of battle. The scent of salt and magic clung to the air, thick and ancient. The waves had calmed, retreating in reverent silence as if the sea itself knew what was coming.

Ashanai writhed on the shore, her once-commanding presence reduced to something pitiful and broken. Her limbs dragged uselessly through the wet sand, tendrils of black magic flickering and dying around her. She screamed but the sound was no longer powerful. It was desperation. Defeat.

And then, the moon shone brighter. So bright it washed the world in silver, bathing the beach in divine light and the Moon Goddess. Radiant. Ethereal. Her feet never touched the sand, but the earth itself bloomed in silver flowers where her presence passed. Light flowed from her eyes and skin like liquid starlight, and beside her, Fenrith, the First Omega Wolf, massive and resplendent in his true form, his silver coat glowing with the strength of a thousand generations. His eyes were endless and wise. A low rumble echoed in his chest, vibrating the bones of the earth.

Every creature, every soul on that beach bowed, and even Aurora fell to one knee, her golden eyes wide with reverence. Nessa followed, head bowed so low her braid touched the ground, and Commander Belisont dropped his weapon and knelt, eyes shining with awe. Even the Rogourau beasts, the wildest among us lowered their monstrous forms to the sand, silent in the face of divinity.

I sank to my knees beside Freyr, my mate’s hand finding mine without needing to look. The Moon Goddess’s voice echoed not just through the air, but through our mind links.

"Ashanai, my dear sister, I never expected to see you had fallen like this. "

Ashanai let out a final, keen wail as the light grew brighter, wrapping around her form like chains spun from stars. And in that moment, we all knew that her terror days were over, and the Moon Goddess had come to finish what we had begun. The Moon Goddess turned her radiant gaze upon us, and her voice rang out like silver bells through the silence.

"Rise, children of the earth and sky. Witness the truth."

Her words lifted us. My knees move as if pulled by invisible threads of light. Around me, Freyr stood with solemn grace, his eyes never leaving the divine figure before us. One by one, the warriors of the beach obeyed Aurora, Nessa, Commander Belisont, the Rogourau, the vampires, the shifters; every soul stood, held in reverence.

Then Fenrith stepped forward, his immense form casting a long shadow across the trembling Ashanai. The faintest smirk tugged at his ancient muzzle as he lowered his head and spoke, his voice deep and full of old power. "I never expected you would make Gerod give up his life, his vitality, his power to protect Hanka Island."

The name struck me hard, a spark behind my ribs. Gerod... the guardian we never saw but always felt.

Fenrith continued, his voice rippling through the stunned silence. "But it seems... Gerod trusted the Lycan Alpha—" He turned to me, his silver gaze meeting mine, burning through flesh to bone, and beyond. "—and his vampire mate, Kayne. For him to pass not just his strength, but the power of the Heart Spring... that is no small thing."

Freyr did not speak, but his hand closed around mine, firm and sure. We both knew what that meant.

And then Ashanai chuckled. That same cold, venomous sound we had heard too many times. She shifted, perching back on her haunches like a monstrous sea lion, eyes gleaming with arrogance despite her wounds. The dark magic still coiled faintly around her, but it fizzled where the moonlight touched it.

"They are mere mortals," she sneered, licking blood from her lips as her grin widened. "What can they do to me?"

Her words slithered through the air like poisoned smoke. But I did not flinch. I saw the twitch in Fenrith’s lip. The way the Moon Goddess raised her chin. And inside me... something old, something awakened by Gerod’s gift, burned brighter than her mockery.

Ashanai’s grin was still sharp when Fenrith chuckled a low, gravelly sound like mountains shifting. It cut through her arrogance like a blade.

His eyes burned brighter than before, ancient and knowing, and his next words wrapped around us all like prophecy.

"You still believe this is only about you, Ashanai," he said, slowly stepping closer, the ground quivering beneath his paws. "But the tides have turned. The Omega Chambers have been cleansed."

Her head tilted slightly, curiosity flickering behind her malice, and Fenrith went on, his voice like thunder wrapped in silk. "The power of the ancient omega has awakened. Sealed now... restored. And Wave Bolt—" He gestured to where Wave stood behind us, his body humming with steady, radiant energy. "—is its guardian."

Ashanai snarled, lips curling back, but Fenrith only smiled. "And the Heart Spring has been tied to its rhythm and the balance has returned. The cycle begins anew."

He paused, letting the weight of his words settle like a storm brewing at sea. "The Omega pups will be born on the next full moon."

Ashanai’s eyes darted toward the moon, now blazing silver in the sky and for the first time since the attack, she looked afraid.
