Chapter 261: LYCAN MATED TO BLOODSTONE

{"The bond defied prophecy, shattered bloodlines, and rewrote ancient law."}

Hours later, we were home as the fire crackled low in the hearth, throwing long shadows across the stone walls of Tor’s home. It was late, well past the hour when even the strongest warriors would retire, but sleep felt far away. I sat curled on the edge of the deep leather couch in Tor’s study, legs tucked beneath me, a warm robe around my shoulders. The scent of cedarwood and iron lingered in the air. Safe. Familiar.

Tor stood at the window, shirtless, the pale moonlight catching the faint shimmer of his Lycan markings across his back and shoulders. He had not said much since we returned from the council meeting. I could feel the weight in him, the responsibility, the memories, the things he did not say.

"They listened," I said quietly, breaking the silence. "The council believed in our lifetime mating bond. "

He turned slowly, eyes catching the firelight. "They did. It is rare... when peace is accepted as truth, not suspicion."

I nodded. "But still... I felt it. The unease. Especially when I spoke about the creature on the mountain. The magic. The blood it craved."

"They’re afraid," Tor said, crossing the room and settling beside me. His thigh pressed warm against mine. "They have seen power like that twisted before. Your power frightens them, Freyr. Because they do not understand it."

"And you?" I asked, voice low.

He reached out, brushing his knuckles along my jaw. "You saved us all. You stood in the darkest place and held the line. I do not care what they fear. I saw the truth in that mountain, and I will remind them of it every time they doubt."

I leaned into his touch, eyes closing for a heartbeat. "It felt... final. The way the Mira home disappeared back into the earth. Like something sacred had ended."

"Or something new had begun," Tor whispered. "You and Qadira are different now. Marked by that ancient magic. You have carried it back with you, whether you realize it or not."

A quiet settled between us then, heavy with thought. Outside, a wolf howled somewhere on the ridge, long, mournful, and answered by a dozen more. It was a sound both lonely and strong.

"I keep thinking about what comes next," I admitted. "We have vanquished the darkness... but what if something worse rises in its place? What if I am not enough to stop it next time?"

Tor pulled me closer, my head resting against his bare chest.

"You’re not meant to fight alone," he murmured. "Not anymore. You have me. You have Rou and Qadira, Rolan, Belle... and this pack. We are not perfect, but we are strong. Together."

I exhaled slowly, listening to his heartbeat steady, grounding, and we stayed like that for a long time, letting the silence speak for us. The shadows moved across the walls, and the fire dimmed to embers. And in the heart of a home that now felt like mine, I finally let the weight of Blood Stone Mountain slide from my shoulders.

I let my fingers trace idle patterns along his forearm. "There’s something that’s been sitting heavy on me since the garden meeting," I said softly.

Tor shifted just enough to look at me. "What is it?"

"The news about Wave," I murmured. "That he’s the Omega Guardian."

Tor exhaled, jaw tightening. "I was not ready for that either. No one was."

"I thought Omegas were protected, not protectors," I said, still trying to wrap my mind around it. "But Wave... he carries something ancient. I felt it when he stood beside Beta Spark. It was like the air around him bent, just slightly."

"Ancient," Tor echoed, nodding. "The Omega Guardian is not just a role. It is a bloodline. A link to the oldest laws of balance in the shifter realm. For every Alpha who leads, there must be an Omega who guards the heart of the pack."

"And Wave..." I paused, the realization setting in. "He must have been shocked by the revelation.

Tor’s brow furrowed. "Sometimes the power doesn’t awaken until the moment it’s truly needed."

I leaned back just enough to study his face. "Do you trust him?"

"With my life," Tor said without hesitation. "He is quiet, but not weak. Thoughtful, not hesitant. When Spark brought him forward and named him before the council... that was not for show. It was an act of faith."

I nodded slowly, trying to imagine what it meant for Wave now. "I heard some pack members challenged his leadership, and others will come. "

"They can try," Tor said, voice low and dangerous. "But they will have to go through me. And now—" he glanced down at me, a smirk playing at the corner of his lips "—you."

I smiled at that, even if a bit wearily. "We protect our own."

"We do," he said, pressing a kiss to my temple.

I rested my head against his chest again, heart a little steadier now. The world was shifting under our feet, new lines being drawn, old powers returning in unexpected places, and here, in the circle of his arms, I found my centre. Early the next day, the wind tasted different here: crisp, sharp with pine and old stone. I stood just behind the thick wooden doors of Wolf Wake Manor, heart drumming a steady beat beneath my ribs. The murmurs of the gathered pack filtered in like distant thunder. They were waiting for us. For me.

Tor stood beside me, calm and unshaken, as always. One hand rested lightly on the small of my back, grounding me.

"Are you ready?" he asked, his voice low, rough with a gentleness he only ever showed when we were alone.

I looked at him, into those storm-coloured eyes that had seen war and grief and yet still softened when they met mine.

"I don’t know if I’ll ever be ready," I admitted, trying to laugh but ending up somewhere between nervous and vulnerable. "But I am here. And I will walk beside you."

He nodded, pressing a kiss to my temple. "That’s all I need."

The guards pulled the doors open, and sound rushed in like a wave. The main grounds were full. Dozens of Bay Shifter pack members lined the field, forming a wide half-circle around the ceremonial stone. Their gazes locked on us instantly, a mix of curiosity, confusion... and in a few cases, quiet awe.

We stepped out together. Tor moved with the confidence of a born Alpha, and I matched his stride, holding my head high, despite the pounding in my chest.

"That’s him..." I heard one woman whisper.

"He’s a vampire?" another murmured.

I kept my face calm, composed, even though my instincts flared with awareness—centuries of being judged on sight had not left me untouched. But this was different. This time, I was not here alone.

Tor stopped in front of the ceremonial stone and turned to face the crowd. I mirrored him, shoulder to shoulder, his presence a quiet strength beside me.

"Bay shifter pack royals, managers, council members, and the people who live and guard it," Tor’s voice boomed, commanding immediate silence. "Thank you for creating time to come on such short notice after I returned from Bloodstone Mountain. He glanced at me, then back at the crowd. "I would like to introduce you to Freyr Kayne. Son of Dunco Kayne, the former Lord of the Paradise Bay Coven. He is a warrior. A protector. A man of both legacy and courage." He paused, and I felt the moment before the shift of energy around us. "He is also my mate."

Gasps. Whispers. A stunned silence that rolled over the crowd like mist. Tor continued, unwavering. "The bond we share was not born of politics or necessity. It is ancient. Fated. The Lycan in me chose him. My soul chose him, and the moon goddess appeared and blessed us."

He turned to me now, reaching for my hand, and I did not hesitate to give it. "I bring him before you not to ask for your approval," Tor said. "But to declare what is already true. Freyr is my mate. My equal. And from this day forward, he walks among us as one of our own."

Silence again, then the sound of someone stepping forward. Beta Spark. He raised his fist in salute.

"For Alpha Tor," he said, voice firm. "And for Freyr."

Commander Belle echoed the words. Then Wave. Then Elder Mercury. A ripple moved through the crowd. One by one, voices rose, until the entire field echoed with the chant.

"For Alpha Tor. And for Freyr."

I felt something tight in my chest crack open. The warmth of it filled me slowly, like the first rays of sunrise after a long, endless night. Tor leaned in; his voice was meant only for me. "They see you now. Just as I do." And for the first time since we stepped through those gates, I believed it.

The sound of drums faded into the crisp morning breeze, and I stood beside Tor, hand locked with his. The tension that had quietly coiled in my chest began to ease as I looked out over the assembled crowd. Tor gave my hand a reassuring squeeze as the council stepped forward first. Elder Mercury, poised and regal, with silver hair swept back into a tight braid, met my gaze with sharp, discerning eyes.

"So, you’re the vampire who tamed our Alpha," she said with a knowing smirk.

I blinked, surprised—and then smiled. "If he’s tamed, it’s news to me."

A ripple of laughter passed through the group, and Mercury chuckled as she reached out to clasp my hand with both of hers. "Welcome to the Bay Shifter Pack, Freyr Kayne. I was proud of Tor before, but I see now, he chose wisely."

Next came Elder Crystal, with a gentler demeanour, warmth radiating from her like sunlight through stained glass. "You carry an old magic," she said as she studied me. "I felt it the moment you stepped onto our lands. There’s Mira’s blood in you still."

I nodded quietly, not quite able to speak under the weight of her words. She did not wait for an answer, simply touched my cheek like a mother would, and whispered, "We are honoured."

One by one, they came General Tiger with his imposing height and firm handshake, his mate Ralph who hugged me before I could protest; General Mortas, gruff and blunt, but surprisingly gentle as he offered a proud nod; his children, Enforcer Troy and Commander Elle, both flashing wide smiles and quick greetings.

Rou and Belle stood nearby, arms crossed and enjoying the show, while Rolan and Qadira stayed close, eyes scanning every expression as if prepared to shield me from even a hint of rejection. Because then came the guards, the commanders, the enforcers. Some nodded solemnly, others clapped my shoulders. One older woman, eyes rimmed in wrinkles, pulled me into a crushing embrace and whispered, "He smiles more with you. We have all noticed. Do not let him forget how."

When the greetings had finally slowed, and Tor guided me to sit beside him once more, I leaned in and whispered, "I thought it would be different."

Tor looked at me, puzzled. "Different how?"

"Colder. Harder. Like I would have to prove something just to stand here beside you."

"You did prove something," he said softly, brushing his fingers along my jaw. "You loved me. That is all they needed to see."

And in that moment, as the Bay Shifter Pack gathered around us, warriors and elders, mothers, and sons, I understood I was not just accepted, I was home.
