Chapter 135: ROU’S PLAN
Chapter 135: ROU’S PLAN
{"Your blood sings to me, a siren’s call I cannot resist."}
I paced the dimly lit coven jail cell, my fingers itching with frustration. Time was running out, and we needed a plan. I turned to Rou, who leaned against the cold stone wall, his crimson eyes unreadable.
"Is there any way to escape?" I asked, my voice barely above a whisper.
Before Rou could answer, Sierra let out a sigh, arms crossed. "It’s too dangerous," she said. "Your only real chance is when they move you to Blood Stone Mountain."
Rou nodded in agreement. "I just hope they don’t drug me," he muttered. "That would make it hard to shift into a Rougarou."
Sierra snorted, her lips curling into a smirk. "Oh, I have a feeling you’re about to give the Paradise Coven the shock of their lives."
I exhaled, running a hand through my hair. "Then, for now, we leave it at that. We get out of this coven jail and wait for you to escape. When you do, come to Kayne lands. I’ll have my secret guards assist you if you run into trouble."
Rou’s sharp gaze met mine, and he gave a firm nod. "Thanks, Dante."
Sierra’s lips twitched into a small smile as she turned to Rou. "Try not to make a scene when you escape," she teased.
Rou chuckled, shaking his head. "That’s impossible. A full-sized, angry Alpha Rougarou is a sight to behold."
I couldn’t help it as I burst into laughter, shaking my head at how narcissistic he was. But beneath the amusement, I silently hoped he would get away safely. Paradise Coven wasn’t known for mercy and if Rou failed, there wouldn’t be a second chance. As Sierra and I stepped out of the coven jail, we were met by Lord Marcel. His smirk was almost amusing as if he had been waiting for this moment, but Sierra didn’t give him the satisfaction. Without so much as a glance, she whizzed past him, her stride unbothered and full of purpose.
I, on the other hand, stopped just long enough to greet him. "Lord Marcel."
His eyes blazed for a moment, flickering with irritation, not at me, but at Sierra’s blatant dismissal. He clenched his jaw, knowing full well he could do nothing about it. That alone made this moment worth it.
As we moved past, Idris and Tio stood in waiting, surrounded by royal guards. Their eyes followed us, likely surprised by our lack of acknowledgment, but I didn’t care. My secret guards were already in position, watching everything unfold. They would report back to me as soon as Rou was moved to Bloodstone Mountain.
An hour later, we finally arrived home. The silence of the house told me Aurora and Nessa were already asleep. Sierra barely made it past the doorway before I noticed the exhaustion settling into her shoulders.
I hovered behind her as she walked deeper into the house, my steps slowing. She must have sensed my hesitation because she suddenly stopped and turned around, eyes sharp as they landed on me.
"I thought we were way past your damn insecurities."
Her words cut through the quiet like a blade. I let out a slow breath, knowing she wasn’t wrong but knowing, too, that some ghosts weren’t so easy to shake. I stood at the threshold of the house, my fists clenched at my sides. As much as I wanted to stay, I couldn’t. Not here. Not in the house Dunco built for Sierra.
I exhaled, my voice firm but low. "As much as I want to stay, this house isn’t mine. It’s his. And there’s no way I’m going to sleep over."
Sierra’s expression shifted, something unreadable flashing across her eyes, but she didn’t stop me. I turned around and walked out, letting the cool night air-ground me as I made my way across Kayne’s land.
I ended up in the secret garden, drawn by its solitude. Settling onto one of the long garden chairs, I leaned back and stared into the endless night sky. The stars flickered like distant promises, ones I wasn’t sure I could keep.
It didn’t take long before I sensed her presence and when I turned my head, and there she was, stepping into the garden, carrying fur blankets.
I shot up to my feet, stunned. "Sierra—"
She didn’t let me finish. "I came because you’re being stubborn, and I’m not ready to sleep alone." Her voice was calm, matter-of-fact, as she placed the fur blankets down on the chair before settling beside them.
Then she just sat there, watching me, waiting for me to react.
I let out a harsh curse, running a hand down my face. "You’re making this damn difficult for me."
She only smirked, like she knew exactly what she was doing and she responded "I don’t want to be separated from you "
Sierra didn’t push, didn’t demand, she just waited, her gaze steady, a soft smile teasing her lips. And that was what undid me. With a sigh, I closed the space between us, taking her hands gently in mine. Her skin was warm, her fingers curling slightly as if she had been waiting for this moment. I held her a little tighter, letting my thumb brush over her knuckles before I finally gave in.
"I will do as you wish." The words barely left my lips before she burst into laughter, the sound like the first breath of spring, light, full of life, completely disarming. I shook my head, watching her, my smile slipping through despite myself. "Are you done?" I murmured; my voice softer than I intended.
It took her a moment to settle, but when she did, we sank into the long garden chair, wrapped in the warmth of the fur blankets. She curled into me effortlessly, her body fitting against mine as though we had done this a thousand times before.
Above us, the stars stretched endlessly across the sky, their glow pale in comparison to the quiet light she carried within her. I held her close, breathing her in and for the first time in a long time, I let go of everything else. Because right here, in this moment, she was all that mattered.
Sierra’s voice was soft, almost hesitant, as she traced gentle patterns against my skin. "I’ve always kept a secret about my Vampire Blood Mira powers," she confessed. "I used some of them to seal the mind link of Frery and Tor... just in case evil ever found them."
I listened in silence, my fingers instinctively moving to the small of her back, tracing slow, soothing circles. She had carried this secret alone, shielding those she loved, always thinking ahead.
"You’re incredible," I murmured, pressing a light kiss to the top of her head. "Beautiful, strong... and completely selfless. I’m the luckiest man alive to have you in my arms."
She let out a quiet sigh, her body relaxing into mine. "Loneliness has followed us for so long," she whispered. "But not anymore. We belong together, to protect each other, to share everything, the good and the bad."
Her words settled deep within me, an unshakable truth I had felt for so long but never dared to voice. I tightened my hold around her, resting my chin against her hair. "I’ve only ever been with one woman in my life," I admitted, my voice low, intimate.
Sierra tilted her head slightly, waiting.
I took a steadying breath. "She was taken from me in the war when I was stationed at the borders by Dunco. After that, I never let anyone close again... until you."
She didn’t speak, but she didn’t have to. The way she lifted her hand, cupping my face with gentle fingers, told me everything.
I met her gaze, my heart thudding softly against my ribs. "I want to spend the rest of my life with you, Sierra and I promise I will be good to you"
For a moment, time seemed to pause, the only thing that mattered was the warmth between us, the quiet understanding in her eyes. I tilted my head back, offering her my neck, offering her all that I was. Sierra’s fingertips brushed against my skin, light as a whisper, sending a shiver through me. I could feel her hesitation, the way she lingered as if savoring the moment before surrendering to the hunger in her eyes. Then, finally, she leaned in, her warm breath fanning over my pulse.
The first prick of her fangs was sharp, but the pain melted into something deeper, something intoxicating. My body reacted instantly, heat surged through my veins, wrapping around me like fire and silk all at once.
A low moan escaped my lips before I could stop it. "Sierra..." Her name was a plea, a confession, a prayer.
She fed slowly, her lips soft against my skin, her touch grounding me even as I felt like I was floating. The connection between us deepened, something more than physical, something that bound our souls together in ways words could never express. My hands found her waist, holding her close, anchoring myself to her even as my vision blurred, stars bursting behind my eyes. And in that moment, with her in my arms, with the rhythm of her blood pumping matching mine, I knew, I was home, and the yearning that I felt was fulfilled.
