Chapter 121: DANGER IN HANKA ISLAND

Chapter 121: DANGER IN HANKA ISLAND

TOR’S POV

Hiding on Hanka Island was not my cup of tea, but what else could I do? Freyr was in danger, and the Bay Shifter Pack had been compromised. Moles were feeding information to Lord Marcel and his goons, forcing me to hide away on Hanka Island, away from Freyr and it left a bitter taste in my mouth.

Cowards.

I exhaled sharply, watching my breath swirl in the cold air. I hated this. The isolation. The waiting. The uncertainty. "Damn it," I mutter, raking a hand through my tangled hair. My skin itched under the weight of this silence; Gale was clawing at the edges of my control. He was restless, pacing within me like a caged beast. He did not understand why we hid instead of fighting, but for peace, I knew that it was best that Lord Marcel had no idea that I was mated to Freyr Kayne or that a real war would erupt.

I decide to move, pushing through the dense foliage toward the mountain. Maybe the higher ground will help clear my head. Maybe the biting wind will shake off the tension tightening my chest.

The climb was steep, the earth damp beneath my boots. The wind picked up, slapping against my skin like icy knives, and the fog thickened by the minute. "Of course," I muttered, shaking my head. "Like this place wasn’t eerie enough." I had no idea what drove me forward, but I kept walking, and maybe it was the need to put distance between myself and the reality I refused to accept. I felt the way my heart is hammered, too damn loud in my ears, like it knew something I did not.

Sitting at the top of the mountain, I let out a slow breath as the fog finally lifted, revealing the vast stretch of the ocean. The sight was almost peaceful, the way the waves shimmered beneath the dim light, their rhythm steady and unbothered. For a moment, I let myself forget—forget the war, forget the betrayals, forget that I was alone on this forsaken island with nothing but my own thoughts clawing at me.

But Gale stirred. A chill crawled up my spine as the hairs on the back of my neck rose. My senses sharpened, and that’s when I saw it, a ship cutting through the dark waters, its sails catching the wind as it approached Hanka Island from the north.

I shot to my feet, pushing my power out like a wave, my beast rising within me. Gale stood tall, alert, watching. "Who the hell would be coming here?" I muttered, my hands curling into fists.

And then I saw them. Vampires. Their figures became clearer as the ship neared the shore, and my stomach twisted at the sight. Over a hundred of them, their movements erratic, their bodies jerking unnaturally. Bloodstone bugs.

My jaw was clenched. "Shit."

Gale growled deep in my chest, rage rolling through me like a storm ready to break. These weren’t just any vampires. I recognized some of them, I’d seen them before on the beaches of Paradise Bay. But now? Now, they were infected. Rabid. Nothing but puppets controlled by the cursed parasites that turned even the strongest into mindless beasts.

I was about to shift, about to prepare for a fight I knew I wouldn’t win alone, when the wind changed.

A voice rose with it, soft at first, then strong enough to silence even the storm raging inside me.

"Go to the Haven and hide there. They will not detect your presence. You don’t need to fight them now, a bigger battle awaits."

I froze. The words weren’t a suggestion. They were a command. I turned my head, searching the trees, the cliffs—nothing. No sign of anyone. But Gale, who had been burning with fury just a second ago, suddenly stilled. His presence within me settled as if he had heard and understood something beyond my comprehension. I exhaled, chest rising and falling with the weight of the decision I didn’t know I was making until my feet started moving. "Alright, then."

Intrigued and cautious, but trusting the unseen force that had spoken, I made my way toward the hidden cave, The Haven. The place Frery and I had discovered long ago. The one place on Hannka island that could keep me out of sight.

The fog thickened as I approached, swirling like a living thing, wrapping around me with an eerie stillness. My steps barely made a sound against the damp earth, but the weight of something unseen pressed down on my chest.

And then, as if sensing my arrival, the cave slit open. I didn’t stop moving. Instinct told me to trust it. The moment I stepped inside, the entrance sealed shut behind me, swallowing the outside world whole. The air was thick with energy, ancient, humming, and charged. At the center of the cave, a pool of water sizzled, steam rising in twisting tendrils. And from its depths, he emerged.

Gerod. His massive dragon head broke through the bubbling surface, golden eyes glowing like molten fire. A smirk curled on his large mouth, a mixture of amusement and something else—something unreadable.

"You finally made it," he drawled, voice layered with power, a force that shook the very walls of the cave. "I was wondering if you would heed my call."

There was sarcasm in his tone, but beneath it, a warning.

I bowed, as was the custom, then straightened. "Alpha Tor Gale, at your service."

Gerod let out a deep, rumbling laugh that echoed off the cavern walls. The sound wasn’t welcoming. If anything, it felt like a test. His head tilted, floating effortlessly in the sizzling water. "Your Lycan is more obedient than you." I said nothing. There was no point in arguing. He was right. Gale had trusted the call without hesitation. I, on the other hand, was still questioning everything.

Gerod’s eyes burned brighter, and then he spoke again. "Move deeper into the cave. There is a resting place for you to calm down and harness the power of the Lycans."

I nodded, not out of obedience, but understanding. Whatever this was, whatever had called me here, was bigger than I could comprehend. I walked further into the cavern, and just as he said, a resting place revealed itself, a patch of soft meadow, illuminated by light streaming in from deep within the mountain. It was unexpected. I lowered myself onto the earth, exhaling as I felt the raw magic of Hanka Island pulsing beneath me. The weight of exhaustion, of battle, of uncertainty, pressed into my limbs. My breathing slowed. The energy of the land wrapped around me, and before I could fight it—I fell into a deep sleep.

I had no idea if I was dreaming or if this was a vision as one moment, I was sinking into the magic of Hanka Island, and the next, I saw him.

Freyr

He moved swiftly through the streets of Coven City, his dark cloak wrapped tightly around him, head low to avoid attention. But I could see the tension in his posture, the way his shoulders were set with a mix of urgency and wariness. Behind him, guards followed at a steady pace, their presence a constant reminder that he was being watched. I couldn’t reach him. Couldn’t warn him. All I could do was watch. Freyr entered a house, locking the door behind him with a sharp click. The moment he was inside, he cursed under his breath, rubbing his face in frustration.

Gale stirred within me, the beast’s energy surging with recognition. His instincts burned hotter than mine, and before I could even think, he pushed his voice through the mind link.

"We are safe."

Kayne, Freyr’s vampire beast, must have heard it instantly. Freyr stiffened. His breath hitched, but then, just as quickly, his shoulders sagged, relief washing over him like a breaking tide. He walked over to a chair and sat down, exhaling deeply as he processed the message.

Then, Kayne’s voice came through the link, sharp and unwavering. "Are you still at Hanka Island?"

Gale answered before I could. "We are in the Haven Cave where we found Gerod the Dragon. Vampires arrived on the island, infected ones and I believe they were sent to capture me."

Freyrshot upright, tension snapping back into his body like a coiled wire.

"I need to get to you," Kayne declared.

Gale’s growl rumbled through me, primal and absolute. "No. It’s too dangerous. Stay put until Gerod advises. You cannot put yourself at risk, Lord Marcel is watching."

Freyr let out a frustrated huff, his jaw tightening, but he didn’t argue. The bond between us hummed with something deeper than words, a silent understanding. And then, just as quickly as it had begun, the vision faded and then darkness engulfed me once more.

It was almost dawn when I stirred awake, my body aching from sleep. The magic of Hanka Island still pulsed faintly beneath me, but the moment my senses fully returned, I noticed something else, Gale had been on guard the whole night.

My beast’s presence loomed at the edges of my consciousness, tense and unwavering.

"Why the hell did you not rest?" I scolded him through our link, irritation threading my words.
