Chapter 115: THE CREST FAMILY ARE THE MOLE

{"Right or wrong, you and I exist together... or we don’t exist at all."}

A sharp jolt of awareness snapped me from sleep, my heart pounding before my mind could even register why. Kayne stirred deep within me, his presence unfurling like a storm cloud, thick with unease. Danger. The word vibrated through my bones. I slipped out of bed, careful not to disturb Tor, and stepped onto the cold floor barefoot. The air in the chamber felt different, charged, expectant. I didn’t bother reaching for a cloak as I moved, my body attuned to the pulse of the night.

Through the stone corridors, past the flickering torches, I made my way to the secret garden. The moment I stepped outside, the cool night air wrapped around me, thick with the scent of damp earth and night-blooming flowers. The candles that lined the path swayed, their flames flickering as though whispering warnings I could not yet hear.

Then, I saw them. Dante was pacing, his dark cloak billowing with every sharp turn. Rou stood beside him, his sharp eyes scanning the surroundings, ever-watchful. I opened my mouth to speak, but Dante’s hand shot up, silencing me before a single word could leave my lips. His expression was grim.

"Freyr, sorry to awaken you but the secret guard we sent to Bloodstone Mountain returned," he said, his voice steady but edged with something I rarely heard from him. Concern. I took another step forward, but Dante’s next words froze me in place. "There’s a man and a woman who arrived in Bloodstone Mountain from the Bay Shifter Pack." He let that sink in before adding, "Their names are Samuel and Lily Crest." Dante continued, his voice dropping lower. "The guard listened as they spoke. They claimed they were sent by ’The Great One’ from Sagstone Mountain." His eyes met mine. "They’re moving the army to Bay Shifter Pack."

I exhaled sharply, a tension coiling in my chest like a tightened wire. "They’re preparing for war," I whispered.

Dante nodded. "And there’s more. "I forced myself to remain still, even as every instinct inside me screamed. "They said they saw Tor and Rou leave the Bay Shifter Pack for Paradise Coven. And they came to report to Lord Marcel that the Lycan Shifter was in Paradise Vampire Coven. I guess that they already know Tor is in Kayne lands."

The world tilted. I staggered back, my breath catching. They were looking for Tor and. Kayne growled in my mind, a deep, menacing sound that rumbled through my chest. The Great One. The words left a bitter taste in my mouth. Who was this figure, hidden behind shadows, pulling strings in the darkness?

Rou shifted beside Dante; his usual calm laced with unease. "This isn’t a coincidence," he murmured. "They’ve been watching us and they must guess that there was a connection between Tor and you"

I clenched my fists, my mind racing and then felt the presence of Tor behind us. I turned around, and there he was, Tor, standing barefoot like me, his dark eyes holding a storm I had no name for. He moved toward me, his steps slow but sure, the moonlight casting sharp shadows against his face. He had heard everything. His voice was steady when he spoke, but I could hear the tension beneath it. "Sam Crest... he was one of the elders exiled from the Bay Shifter Council." His jaw tightened. "And his daughter, Lily Crest, is still a Council member." He exhaled sharply. "I never expected her to be involved."

His words struck like a blade. Lily Crest. My breath hitched, and I closed my eyes for a moment, frustration curling through my veins like wildfire. The Council had known. She had known.

Tor continued, his voice dropping lower. "She was present when I announced to the Council that I was mated to you." His gaze burned into mine, filled with realization. The weight of his words settled like lead in my chest. We had fallen into their trap. Tor’s hands clenched at his sides. "And if Lord Marcel knows I’m here..." His voice hardened. "He’ll send an army to capture me and attack the Kayne family, soothing that he has been waiting to do for a long time, I bet"

I inhaled sharply, the cold night air doing nothing to soothe the fire raging inside me. Tor took another step forward, his hand brushing against mine, grounding me in the moment. "And you, Frery..." His voice wavered, just slightly. "They will label you a traitor."

Kayne stirred deep within me, his fury crackling beneath my skin. I met Tor’s gaze, my chest tightening at the unspoken truth between us.

I nodded slowly, my mind already working through the inevitable. Lord Marcel. He had been waiting for this—itching for a chance to bring down the Kayne family, to sever my bloodline from the land. Now, the perfect opportunity had presented itself. But I was not going to allow that.

I inhaled deeply, steadying my resolve. "We cannot afford to be reckless," I said, my voice firm. "Marcel has set his trap, and if we walk into it blindly, we’re giving him exactly what he wants." I turned to Tor, my heart clenching at the storm in his gaze. "You need to leave. Now. Go to Hanka Island. Lay low until I come for you."

A growl rumbled deep in Tor’s chest, low and dangerous. His fists clenched at his sides, his body rigid with defiance. "I will not hide like a dog, Frery," he spat, his voice thick with fury. "If Marcel wants me, then I will face him."

Dante shook his head, stepping forward. "Tor, he’s right," he reasoned. "The only way to preserve your mating bond is to ensure that you’re both safe." His eyes flickered with worry. "If they capture you now, they’ll use you against each other."

Rou stepped forward, his expression calm, but his voice edged with certainty. "I will stay behind." His gaze met mine. "I’ll tell them that I was the one who came to Paradise Coven."

Tor’s growl deepened, vibrating through the air, the ground beneath us trembling from the force of it. "They’ll torture you to death," he snarled, his golden eyes flashing.

Rou chuckled, tilting his head slightly. "They’ll capture my human form, maybe," he admitted, "imprison me, even." His smirk widened, sharp and knowing. "But they will never hold me for long. Once I shift into a Rogourau, no prison, no mountain, no force in this realm could contain me." His voice dropped, his eyes burning into Tor’s. "You need to go Alpha. Now."

Tor cursed under his breath, his jaw tightening as he turned sharply on his heel. He didn’t argue this time, but the fury in his stride told me just how much he hated this. I watched as he stormed back into the chambers, the tension in his shoulders a silent battle between rage and reluctant acceptance.

Dante’s voice was low but urgent. "The fastest way to get to Hanka Island is to take Tor with you," he advised. "You need to get him there and return to Paradise Coven before Lord Marcel descends on Kayne land. There’s no time to waste."

I nodded once; my decision made. Without another word, I turned on my heel and strode back into the chambers, my movements swift, my mind set.

Tor was already dressed, his posture tense as he prepared to step out. He halted the moment he saw me, his golden eyes narrowing. He opened his mouth, likely to retort, to fight me on this—because that was who he was, stubborn and fierce—but I didn’t give him the chance.

In a blur, I moved toward him, closing the space between us, and sealed his mouth with mine. His breath hitched, his body stiffening for the briefest moment before I deepened the kiss, pushing in with raw urgency. His lips softened underneath, and then he surrendered, kissing me back with the same hunger, the same unspoken desperation.

When we finally parted, our breaths mingling, he whispered, "I understand." His voice was rough, his gaze locked onto mine. "I’m ready."

A small nod was all I gave before I hurriedly dressed, the urgency thrumming in my veins. When we stepped out of the chambers, Dante and Rou were already gone. Without wasting another second, I picked Tor up into my arms. He let out a sharp breath but didn’t protest. And then, with the full force of my vampire speed, I surged forward, carrying him into the night, leaving Kayne land behind as we raced toward Hanka Island.

The moment my feet touched the soft earth of Hanka Island, I set Tor down gently. A low rumble echoed beneath us, subtle but unmistakable. The land itself responded to our presence, a silent acknowledgment of the power that bound us both.

Tor let out a small breath and turned to me, a ghost of a smile playing on his lips. "Hanka always welcomes u," he murmured. I smiled back, feeling the warmth of the island’s energy wrapping around us. But time was slipping through my fingers like sand.

Tor’s gaze hardened with resolve as he reached for my arm. "Go back, Frery," he urged. "I’ll stay here, lay low, and wait for you. You need to be in Kayne land before Marcel moves."

I didn’t argue. There was no time, no space for reluctance. Instead, I stepped closer, pressing a soft kiss to his forehead, lingering for a heartbeat as I inhaled his scent, committing it to memory. "Stay safe," I whispered against his skin. His fingers tightened briefly around my wrist before letting go. With one last glance, I turned away. The wind howled as I launched forward, the world blurring around me as I raced back to Paradise Coven at vampiric speed.
