Chapter 49: Grudge 3
Chapter 49: Grudge 3
"Mind control!"
Oliver was surprised.
The way the people reacted made him doubt whether they were being controlled.
Mind control was a rare ability. Usually, you would never meet someone with this ability in real life. And even if you met one, their ability would have stringent requirements before it could be used on people.
Those who have this ability generally use it to tame mana beasts.
However, about fifty-odd people were staring at Oliver with pale blue eyes inside the hall.
Their eyes were tracking his movement as he walked forward.
To control that many people was a great feat. The mind controller, whoever it was, has exceptional control over his power. The person was truly talented.
"This is interesting," Oliver muttered.
The pale blue colour covering their eyes was mana. And whoever is controlling them is actively doing so. That’s the reason why he could see the mana glow over their eyes.
"You see me, right?" Oliver asked.
He was covered from head to toe with the blood armour, making him look like a monster. So, it would be nigh impossible to recognise him.
However, the person seems to have recognised Oliver. Not his exact identity, but as the one who bought weapons from Grizzly.
"I can."
The fifty-odd people replied simultaneously.
"Ha ha." Oliver laughed.
"Why are you doing this?" The person controlling them asked, using the mouth of someone close to Oliver.
"Why should I have a reason?"
"Did Grizzly pay you? If so, I can pay you more."
"He didn’t."
"Is it because the assassins were sent after you? I apologise for that. It was a mistake."
"You are telling me that trying to kill someone is a mistake. Was that a joke? It was really funny."
"It was a mistake. There is no need for us to be enemies over a mistake." The person repeated.
"That’s not for you to decide."
"Sorry about that. It was presumptuous of me. I apologise again." The mind controller apologised.
Contrary to his actions up to this point, he was speaking amicably like a peace-loving person.
"So, can we let go of the misunderstanding and reach an amicable settlement?"
"Before that, explain to me if kidnapping and selling children were also a mistake."
"Children?"
"Don’t give me that bullshit. You know what I am talking about." Oliver pressed him for answers.
"I do not have anything to do with children." He answered, avoiding responsibility.
The mind controller was most likely the cult leader. It was an ability very useful to make and expand a cult.
When Oliver asked him a question, the person acted as if he knew nothing about it.
It was obviously a lie.
As the cult leader, he should have been aware of the actions of the cult.
Simply put, not a fly should have gone unnoticed under his watch.
So, how can he not know about the children his cult members kidnapped and sold?
"Ha ha. I understand what kind of person you are." Oliver said when he heard the answer. "You are a nasty, small-minded weakling who preys on the weak. There is no use talking to you. It is my pleasure that I can kill you with my own hand."
Oliver thrust his blood tentacle toward the nearby cultist. He had entertained the person enough. It was time to end it.
*Swoosh*
It punctured the body and killed him within a millisecond.
The person was a D ranker.
He died without even knowing how he died.
"The person you just killed was a father of two. His youngest daughter is five and expects to go to an amusement park with her father this weekend."
Another voice spoke from beside Oliver. Although Oliver killed one of his pawns, the mind controller did not retaliate.
He just spoke about the person he killed to induce sympathy.
It was a trick to induce mental turmoil and decrease mental defence. In a way, it was a psychological attack made in preparation to weaken Oliver and take over his mind.
However, unfortunately for him, Oliver was not the kind to hesitate.
"He shouldn’t have joined the cult. If he had a daughter, he should have protected the kids who were kidnapped. A good father can never harm another child, be it his own or someone else’s." Oliver spoke with some anger hidden behind his words and swiftly moved to the next target.
In a moment, he released more tentacles and crushed the heads of five more people. He didn’t care if they were men or women or neither. He killed them all alike.
Oliver was a proponent of true equality.
"Killed a brother. Killed a father. Killed a mother. Killed a son. You are a killer. You are worse than me." The voice spoke.
"I am," Oliver replied nonchalantly.
"You are a heartless man. In the end, you will fall into hell."
"I don’t care."
"Someday, you and your family will pay for your sin."
"Are you done?"
"Not yet." The voice said, as if he were joking.
The death of the cultist didn’t seem to affect him at all.
"I hope you can also kill the rest. Then come over to the fourth floor. I want to chat with you face to face." The voice spoke as if it were all just an elaborate joke.
"..."
Oliver didn’t reply.
Still, he killed every one of the cultists on that floor.
All of them were D rankers, and yet none tried to defend as he chopped them down and drained their blood.
After completing his work, he walked to the fourth floor.
The floor was similar to the third floor. It was a large hall with pillars in between. However, it had a lot more people than he expected.
Glancing over, Oliver counted about three hundred sitting around a slightly raised platform in the middle.
Three hundred was a number far exceeding his expectations.
"Welcome."
The man sitting on the raised platform stood up and said.
He was wearing the signature purple robes of the Tempus cult. But the one he was wearing had golden embroidery of their symbols.
The six-pointed star, circle, and ’+’ symbol.
Even from a distance, Oliver could clearly see them.
"WELCOME."
When the man on the platform said welcome, the rest of the people on the floor also stood and shouted welcome.
Their voices were loud without any emotion. However, Oliver could see that they were not being actively controlled. They seemed to be brainwashed.
"Now, are you going to kill us all?" The man on the platform asked Oliver, who was walking towards him.
Oliver shrugged his shoulders and replied, "I don’t have to."
