Chapter 45: Action 3
Chapter 45: Action 3
All cities with permanent gates have a population of about hundred million. And the one Oliver lives in, the Dragon city, including the people inside the gate has a population of 105 million people.
That’s ten percent of the Federation population crammed into a city.
And for cities like these, all facilities needed for independent operation are present within the city gates themselves. Thus, the area it covers was also just as large.
Oliver rode the electric bike towards his destination, the red-light district, which covers a small area on the border of the inner city.
The main difference between the inner city and the outer city was the extremely tall skyscrapers littered across the area.
Most of these skyscrapers were owned by large corporations, guilds or even high ranked individuals. There were also military camps and administrative offices inside the inner city.
Some of the area inside the inner city was used for apartment complexes that housed wealthy families.
Oliver rode down the road, gazing at the skyscrapers.
It was a familiar sight. However, he remembered what happened after the demons invaded.
’The towering skyscrapers would be their first target. The rich made a large rectangular coffin for themselves.’ He thought as he moved along.
Finally, after an hour, he reached the entrance of the red-light district.
Vividly coloured neon signs, large displays showing scantily dressed young women, and streets filled with people even in the middle of the night quickly came into his view.
On both sides of the road were buildings he could only describe as an adult entertainment establishment.
Oliver slowed down and rode through the crowded street cautiously.
The smell of alcohol, smoke, and perfume was unpleasant, at the same time familiar.
When he initially became a villain, he used to hide in the red-light district.
Still, it does not mean he liked the place.
No, in fact, he disliked it.
The entire area was filled with scammers and con artists. For the weak and less intelligent, this place was hell.
Thugs, drug dealers, human traffickers, and even demons frequent this place just like humans. If you are not careful, you could fall into their trap, get kidnapped, and ultimately wake up in an unfamiliar place with your kidney missing.
And even in that situation, the missing kidney would be the least of your concerns.
’So, why would a place like this exist inside the city? The simple answer was greed and lust.’
’Anyway, I am not here to judge them. Humanity is like that. I can’t change them, and I don’t need to.’
’Even in this wretched place, good people are struggling to live.’
’Some are forced to come here just like me.’
*Sigh*
Oliver slowly drove the bike to a bar in one of the dimly lit areas in an alley.
At a glance, it looked shady. And it certainly was.
"Grizzly Bar."
The name was even more shady.
"He should be inside."
Oliver parked the bike in the alley, locked it, and entered.
He was dressed in black, wearing a cap to cover his head and a mask to cover his face. There was no way to recognise him by normal means.
The moment he entered, the few people inside immediately noticed his presence.
"I want to meet your boss. Tell him that a customer is here to meet him." Oliver spoke and scribbled something on a piece of tissue and handed it to the bartender.
The face of the bartender was a familiar one. Oliver smiled as he recognised him.
’This will be interesting.’He thought.
Although Oliver covered up his face, his voice immediately gave away his identity as someone young.
The bartender glanced over at the note, recognising their secret code, he immediately took the piece of tissue and walked into the area behind the counter.
After a short while, the bartender returned and said, "The boss is waiting for you inside."
"Okay." Oliver nodded and walked into the area behind the bar.
The bartender carefully led him to a door, opened it, and asked him to enter.
Oliver widened his eyes and walked into the dimly lit hall.
Inside was a group of people playing poker. Gambling more money than he could count.
’The stacks look like it’s more than a couple of million cred.’ He thought.
Creds are the currency used by the federation. Most trade all around the world happens in creds due to the logistical superiority of the federation. So, it was considered valuable.
"Here." The bartender guided Oliver to a corner of the room and pointed to a middle-aged man sitting at an empty poker table.
The man looked like he was in his fifties. He had some grey streaks of hair on either side of his head.
He was wearing golden rimmed glasses and was smiling at Oliver.
Oliver smiled back, knowing what it meant.
’He is seeing me as free money. The damned scammer.’
A young man, coming alone into a gambling den to purchase who knows what.
What else can it be other than easy money?
’This old man still has his arm. That’s a great find. Maybe I can trade the information to buy something.’ Oliver’s smile brightened.
The man he was looking at was the weapons dealer he came to meet. The real name of the person was unknown. But here in the red light district, he was known as the Grizzly.
He has close contacts with the black markets operating inside the city. If someone can get weapons to Oliver, it was this guy.
"Hello young man. Nice to meet you. Please have a seat." The rough voice of the man spoke, pointing Oliver to sit on one of the chairs nearby.
"Thank you."
Oliver sat down without batting an eyelid.
"So, why did you want to meet me?" Without wasting a second, the Grizzly asked.
"I want to buy weapons for personal use."
"What kind?"
"Alloy swords, guns, and armor-piercing bullets.
"What kind of guns and swords?"
"Mana conducting swords and two pistols."
"Oh!"
The Grizzly was surprised.
"Anything else?" He asked.
"Not right now. Maybe in the future." Oliver smiled.
"I can get you what you want in an hour."
"No, give it to me after a few days. I can pay you the advance." Oliver suggested.
"If that works for you, I am okay with it." The Grizzly’s smile widened.
He quickly scribbled something on a piece of paper and said, "That would be 10,000 creds."
