Chapter 368: -121- Déjà Vu
Charlotte and Count Gaston had agreed to meet at a small town located on the border between the Tulip Count’s Domain and the Count Castel’s Domain, and had coincidentally set the time for the meeting to two days later at noon.
Moreover, the two parties had agreed to meet on the basis of mutual trust, neither side would bring too many soldiers, with the military forces limited to no more than five hundred people, not including the accompanying nobles and military officers.
The Tulip Count’s Domain wasn’t far from North Port, just half a day’s journey.
Early in the morning, two days later, accompanied by Sebastian, Charlotte set out with five hundred of her elite directly administered standing Army Cavalry and several dozen Noble Knights.
The town where they were to meet was called Nair Town and was administratively part of the Tulip Count’s Domain.
The town wasn’t large, housing no more than five thousand residents, nestled among a series of rolling hills and graced with beautiful scenery.
As Charlotte rode in her carriage, escorted by a magnificent procession of Armored Cavalry, she arrived at Nair Town to find that Count Gaston’s party had already arrived.
Through the carriage window, Charlotte could see, from afar, the Bold soldiers stationed in the town, the lion banners of the Bold Duchy fluttering in the sky, along with the Gaston family’s clan banners.
At the same time, it was clear that the Bold garrison in the town had also spotted the impressive Castel army, and very soon, the sentries on the watchtower sent out a signal allowing passage.
"Lord Count," said a noble outside the carriage, approaching the window respectfully, "the other side is inviting us into their camp using Kingdom flag signals. Should we station ourselves here or enter the town?"
"Let’s stay here. Sebastian and I will go ahead," replied Charlotte. "Inform everyone that until I give a signal, no one else is to make any rash moves."
What she had come for was actually to spy and to fish for information while keeping the military presence as just a precaution.
Bringing her troops too close, she worried, might reveal her own secrets.
If it wasn’t for the Castel nobles insisting on accompanying her, she would not have wanted to bring even the Noble Knights.
"Lord Count, just you and Lord Sebastian going? Isn’t that... too dangerous?" asked the accompanying nobles, exchanging glances, while her Personal Guard Knights also showed signs of restlessness.
Charlotte glanced at them and said, "Sebastian is a Silver Moon Peak professional. With him with me, I will be unharmed."
Sebastian offered the crowd a slight smile, his aura subtly manifesting for a moment. The show of strength from someone at the Silver Moon Peak made all the Transcendents present feel a momentary tremor of apprehension.
The nobles still wanted to say something, but faced with Charlotte’s unequivocal expression and sensing Sebastian’s considerable strength, they ultimately stood aside.
In a world with Transcendents, numbers sometimes didn’t matter much. When Sebastian revealed his aura, they knew that even if all the nobles and knights present teamed up, they would stand no chance against just him.
In such a case, having Sebastian alone accompany her was sufficient.
With no more objections from the accompanying nobles, Charlotte and Sebastian rode towards the encampment where Count Gaston was located.
The Bold garrison’s camp was situated in the Town Square of Nair Town.
The number of soldiers in the camp wasn’t large, in fact, possibly even fewer than the Cavalry Charlotte had brought.
However, using her keen Bloodline senses and the augmentation of her Blood Divine Power, Charlotte could perceive the presence of numerous Transcendent auras hidden within the camp.
Among them, there was no lack of Silver Moon.
After entering the camp, Count Gaston quickly arrived, flanked by Noble Officers, with a young Noble by his side who bore a striking resemblance to Count Gaston, dressed in the uniform of a Kingdom Knight.
Charlotte guessed that this must be the eldest son of Count Gaston, who was far away studying at the Royal Capital Knight Academy.
Seeing Charlotte, the aging Count seemed quite pleased and laughed heartily as he greeted her,
"Haha, Count Castel, we meet again. After half a year, you seem even more beautiful."
Charlotte dismounted and, with Sebastian’s help, stepped down onto the prepared soft platform and replied with a smile,
"Count Gaston, it has been a long time. I still prefer to be called Charlotte by you, rather than the title of Count Castel."
"Haha, then I will continue to address you as Lord Charlotte."
Count Gaston laughed heartily and then turned his gaze to Sebastian, squinting his eyes and saying,
"Lord Sebastian, it’s been a long time. Back in the days in Bold, our Gaston family had quite a lot of business dealings with your Rose Association."
Sebastian also smiled slightly and elegantly said,
"Count, it has been too long. I didn’t expect to see you again in the Northern Land."
"The two of you, we are old acquaintances. I have already prepared lunch in the town, and we can discuss the suppression of the Northern rebellion while we eat."
With that, Count Gaston made an inviting gesture, indicating for Charlotte and Sebastian to follow him into a two-story building behind the camp.
Charlotte looked up to see an inn that was rather well-decorated. Located in the town, it must be the best inn there.
The inn was also flying the lion’s banner of Bold and the family standard of Gaston, clearly having been temporarily utilized as Count Gaston’s place of accommodation.
Sebastian looked at Charlotte, and Charlotte smiled and followed boldly.
After entering the inn, Charlotte distinctly felt more Transcendent aura concealed within.
She glanced at Sebastian discreetly and saw that he didn’t seem to react.
Immediately, Charlotte understood that perhaps only she, as one of the Bloodline and with the enhancement of Blood Divine Power, could sense these hidden auras.
And this concealment, it was clearly well-prepared, specifically aimed at Sebastian, whose strength was already well-known.
Charlotte quietly stirred the power of Blood Divine Power to strengthen her perception and quickly calculated the approximate strength of the Transcendents concealed in the inn.
Twenty-eight First Tier Starry Transcendents.
And... an entire six Second Tier Silver Moon Transcendents!
So many Transcendents gathered together and deliberately using some special method to hide their aura, the conspiracy was almost certain.
However, Charlotte did not act rashly.
Having come all this way, she was curious about what kind of trick Count Gaston intended to pull off and how he planned to deal with Sebastian, the strongest known protector on the surface.
"Lord Charlotte, please."
Arriving in front of the most luxurious room on the second floor of the inn, Count Gaston signaled to his trusted aide to open the door and gestured for her to enter.
Charlotte entered the room without revealing anything, seeing a table and chairs set within, with food prepared on the table.
Sebastian followed close behind.
However, just as Sebastian stepped through the doorway, the ground suddenly erupted in silver radiance.
To Charlotte’s astonishment, she saw Sebastian’s foot lift but vanish in the burst of light before it could step out.
