Chapter 81: Trouble is coming your way

Amir started crying, and even Ben teared up. Maxwell’s face split into a grin as well.

"Congratulations! This is great news! I’m so excited for you two!" Maxwell’s joy filled every muscle in his body, and Andrew watched him with warm eyes. Amir shook in Ben’s arms, while Ben stared down at the man in his arms like he was a delicate bird.

"W-We need to book an appointment with the Doctor." Ben muttered, and Maxwell chuckled. He shifted on his feet, drawing Andrew’s attention to him once more. Maxwell had his arms crossed, and was leaning more to the right on his hip. In his suit, Andrew found the smaller man so cute. Too bad he was probably angry at him.

"I think you two need to get home first. Amir should be around your scent the most right now, but stop and get him some...pumpkin spice lattes? He seemed to be craving the ones specifically from the cafe in A and D." Ben nodded slowly, staring at the man in his arms in wonder.

"Oh. Okay. I’ll...Do you want those, Amir?" Amir sniffed, nodding, and Andrew felt a huge grin split his face. Andrew didn’t know what to do with his hands now that he had handed over the test, and instead shoved them into his pockets, searching for his phone.

"I’ll message Kim and let them know that you two have a priority order for the next little bit. Just text Maxwell when your craving changes, Amir. I won’t tell her why." Andrew winked at the two, pulling out his phone happily. He began typing away, since he only had a few contacts near the top.

Kim’s reply back was almost instant, like she wasn’t in a meeting with the Fultons.

"Kim? Who-Oh. You went and spoke with them today?" Ben seemed confused, before something clicked in his brain. Andrew couldn’t blame him. He just found out he was going to be a Dad. Andrew nodded.

"Yup! She’s basically my aunt. I found out my Mom was from her branch family." Andrew said with a smile. "Anyways, I’ve let her know. She’s pleased that you like the lattes so much Amir. Oh! You can use my spot in the front parking lot. I’ll let them know. What type of car do you have?" Andrew asked Ben a bunch of questions, and it seemed to soothe both of them that Andrew was behaving like this was normal.

This was normal. Getting pregnant and having a kid was normal. But these two had lost their first baby. They were going to have different worries. Andrew knew that if he babied them like everyone else was going to, it could nurture their fears more.

He’d seen it happen with other couples. Especially alpha and omega couples. The alpha could get too overprotective of the omega, or the omega could work themselves into such a panicked state they couldn’t leave the house. Neither of those conditions was good for someone who was pregnant, and Andrew did not want them to suffer from another miscarriage.

"Well, I had no idea your Mother was from the Proctor family. Hmm. Is that where your true alpha comes from?" Ben asked slowly, as if he was stepping out a viscous liquid. Andrew let him, since he wasn’t being malicious, and was holding Amir as if he held the world. Amir probably was his world, from the way he’d reacted before.

"No, unfortunately not. Apparently, true alphas are not recessive in that regard. I may have manifested late, but they don’t consider it recessive because my father is a true alpha. Either my Mother or my father would have to be one." Andrew said with a smile, hiding how much he wanted it to be any other way. Ben frowned.

"I am sorry to hear that, but it is surprising you are close to two true alpha lines. I wonder what that means for your pheromones? You haven’t done any suppression work yet, have you?" Andrew grew confused at Ben’s question, and Ben sighed. "I would take that as a no. Suppression is something all alphas can do when they aren’t mated like Amir and I are. True alphas are unique in the sense that they can always do it, and also to any alpha who is considered ’less powerful’ than them on a pheromone level." Ben explained, and Andrew remembered some of that vaguely.

"Oh, you’re talking about what I do sometimes by accident." Andrew said, and Ben smiled.

"Yes. Suppression training is learning how to control that. I assume you’ve only just gotten control of your pheromones?" He suggested, and for some reason, Andrew felt like that was a jab.

"Um, well..." Andrew trailed off. They were giving him the medication as a way to help him, but honestly? Andrew didn’t feel in control of his pheromones at all. He was learning how to, but he still needed medication when it came to having contact with others.

"Benjamin, stop it. Andrew is doing leaps and bounds over the other true alphas who have manifested around the same time. Even with the help of the medication I sent them, Andrew is the only one who can leave his house without panicking." Maxwell stepped in, defending Andrew against his brother.

Ben, for his part, seemed shocked that Maxwell was doing so. Then groaned and pressed his forehead against Amir’s shoulder.

"I am so sorry. I didn’t mean for it to come out that way. I was just genuinely asking." Ben muttered. "I’m a little out of sorts." Andrew frowned.

"It’s okay." He brushed off the offense, given how quickly and sincerely Ben apologised. "Should you even be driving if you aren’t feeling like yourself? Should we drive you home?" Andrew offered, but Maxwell shot his arm out, blocking Andrew.

"We’ll call for a driver from the company. Hell, I’ll even send someone to go pick up some lattes from the cafe, but we are not driving you home. Andrew’s been out of the house for long enough that his medication should be wearing off soon. He’s not allowed to take more, so we need to get him home. Again, I am super excited for you two. If you need anything, don’t be afraid to reach out. Otherwise, we’ll see you two at the wedding." Surprised by Maxwell’s abrupt, and slightly uncaring actions, Andrew waved at the couple as he was yanked and dragged out of the bathroom.

The couple in question stared after them in shock, before both began to laugh, but Andrew couldn’t hear them.

Andrew stared at Maxwell as he held onto his hand, pulling him behind him through the aisles of the pharmacy and gulped. It must have been because Maxwell was angry at him. He knew he probably should have kept his mouth shut, but Amir had looked so unwell, and Maxwell was taking his time to read the back of the boxes...

Should he apologise? It was clearly something that had upset Maxwell, especially if he was being so abrupt with his brother and his brother-in-law after taking such good care of Amir. Panic filled him as Maxwell dragged him out and to the car.

"Drive. I’m going to give you directions as I make sure a driver comes to pick them up, along with the lattes." Andrew nodded, unlocking the car and putting his seatbelt on. He waited for Maxwell to do the same, before listening to every order Maxwell gave him, his hands sweating.

Maxwell was good at giving orders, good at making plans, and good at being bossy. He was great for leadership roles. Andrew had always known this, which is why he didn’t doubt him when he first started giving him directions. Until they began to get into a slightly seedy part of the city, and then they were out of the city entirely.

Genuinely concerned that they had gone somewhere they shouldn’t, Andrew glanced over at Maxwell to find him cool, unphased. Like this was exactly where he wanted to be. Andrew, for his part, swallowed, and continued driving. If Maxwell was mad, and this was what was going to soothe him, this was what he was going to do.

He continued driving until Maxwell gave him the order to pull over. Doing as he was told, Andrew suddenly realised that they weren’t in the middle of nowhere, he had just never driven here when it was still light out.

This was a teen hookup spot.

Maxwell had ordered him to drive out here with a cool calmness that had made Andrew uneasy. That uneasiness didn’t leave as Maxwell unbuckled his seatbelt. He pushed his seat back, and Andrew gulped.

"Undo your seatbelt and push your seat back, Andy." Maxwell ordered, and Andrew was doing his best not to get excited. This was going to be a punishment. He knew it. Maxwell wasn’t the kind of guy who would make him drive all the way out here to hook up.

Andrew fumbled with the button on his seat, the seatbelt releasing as he fumbled while pushing the driver’s seat back. It didn’t have far to go, since Andrew had long legs, and once it stopped moving, Andrew looked over at Maxwell.

Maxwell’s face was smooth, calm, and he was staring at Andrew not as a lover would, but with great calculation. Andrew gulped. He was in biiiig trouble. What on earth could Maxwell want with him when he’d been forced to push the seat back?

"Lower the seat as well, Andy." Maxwell ordered, and Andrew frowned, but did as he was told. He forced himself to remain upright as the seat dropped out behind him, and nervously, he stared at Maxwell.

Finally, as if Maxwell was appeased, Maxwell nodded, before turning his gaze to Andrew. Andrew’s heart rate accelerated from his look alone. He was in big trouble.
