Chapter 75: Forced into the family
Chapter 75: Forced into the family
Andrew found that with the support of Maxwell, things went smoothly after he came back. If he felt a tear fall down his cheek and he had to wipe it away, no one said anything about it.
The papers that Kim wanted him to sign were pretty easy to follow and mostly had to do with the management side of the company. Since his Mom had been absent, Kim had been running the portion of her shares in the company in her stead, per her wishes. Since Andrew had no interest in running the company, Kim had proposed that he sell a portion of his shares, but keep the rest.
It would mean he would lose his ability to say what he wanted done with the company, but would still give him the rights as the son of the original creator of the firm. That seemed perfectly reasonable to Andrew, since he had no desire to interfere with the way Kim was running the company. Plus, if he sold them to Kim, she would gain a bigger chunk of authority in the company. Andrew liked the plan, and after Maxwell looked it over, he also agreed.
Maxwell was his ticket to understanding this kind of stuff. Andrew wasn’t an idiot by any means, but he didn’t study any of the business related issues before this moment. Maxwell, by nature of his upbringing, had more knowledge then he did. Why would he ignore the perks of having Maxwell as a boyfriend?
It made his chest feel warm whenever he called Maxwell that.
Mrs. Proctor had kept an eye on the level of refreshments, and helped out whenever Andrew needed to sign a complicated form. Both of the women were kind, patient, and warm with him. It made Andrew kick himself all over for not making sure that they knew about his Mom’s passing. It was clear to him that even if they knew it was likely possible, they were still upset about it.
Andrew understood. His Mom had been a wonderful woman. She still was a wonderful woman, but she just wasn’t among the living anymore.
After all the papers were signed, and the tea had been drunk, the four of them sat on the couches in silence. Maxwell had wrapped his arm around the back of Andrew’s spot on the couch, while Kim had done the same to Mrs. Proctor. Andrew wasn’t uncomfortable with the silence, but there was clearly something that was held in the air. It wasn’t coming from Andrew, so he just waited.
It took a few minutes of just sitting in the slightly tense silence before Kim spoke up.
"Uh, Andy? Would it be alright if we visited her grave?" She asked hesitantly, and Andrew’s face broke into a wide, welcoming smile.
"Of course. I’m sure she would love that. I haven’t been able to visit her because of my condition, so I’m sure she’s lonely. She would probably love to see you after so long. Do you need the address? I can tell the security to let you in." Kim’s eyes watered and she sniffed.
"O-Oh. I should have known. I don’t know why I was so worried that you were going to say no." She sniffed, and Andrew smiled.
"I can tell that you care deeply about Mom, and that she cared deeply about you as well. The little touches here and there that speak of Mom tell me so. All I ask when you visit her is that you don’t tell her about Maxwell. We haven’t visited yet." Andrew’s cheeks warmed, but it wasn’t in embarrassment. It was in excitement to show the man he liked to his Mom. Kim’s face softened as she stared at the son of her friend.
"I...I will do my best. I might let something slip, but that’s only because I’m so excited to see you again after so long. I’m going to brag about how great of a man you’ve turned into." Andrew’s cheeks did heat in embarrassment while Mrs. Proctor furrowed her brows.
"Wait. What’s this about Andy’s condition?" Andrew froze. Right. As a mated omega, she had no idea that Andrew now had pheromones. She could only smell her mates. Kim’s eyes went wide and she paled slightly.
"Oh god. I forgot to tell you." Kim started, and Mrs. Proctor’s face hardened slightly.
"What did you forget to tell me?" She asked icily, and Andrew winced. Uh oh, Kim was in trouble. She shifted on the couch, turning to face her wife.
"W-Well, Andy let slip when I was on the phone with him that...that he’s changed. He’s manifested." Mrs. Proctor gasped, covering her mouth with her hands.
"Oh Andy! Are you-" She cut herself off, hesitant as she looked at Andrew. Andrew’s face twisted, his smile slightly pained as he nodded and Maxwell frowned. He removed his arm around Andrew’s shoulder to grab his hand and squeeze it tightly.
"I...well, I didn’t tell you the whole truth." Andrew admitted, sliding his gaze to Maxwell. He didn’t want to say it if Maxwell said no, but he also didn’t feel right keeping it from them. Maxwell’s face hardened, and Andrew worried he was upset that he wanted to speak about it. He opened his mouth to take it back, but Maxwell spoke before he could.
"Andrew’s ex girlfriend drugged and kidnapped him." Mrs. Proctor gasped, covering her mouth with her hands as her eyes began to water. Kim looked as white as a ghost.
"W-What?" She stuttered, her hands trembling. Andrew could feel her pheromones beginning to react, and Maxwell moved closer to Andrew to protect him. Neither of them were sure how Andrew would react to another true alpha’s pheromones.
"I was...experimented on. That’s how I became a true alpha. She was...crazy, but sadly, a good researcher." Andrew said, his smile warped on his lips. Maxwell growled.
"She also framed Andrew for a data breach in his old company with the help of her aunt, has basically kicked him out of his industry, and hasn’t fired him from the company yet. They tarnished his name, his credentials, and expected him to just take it." Fury, pure and fierce filled both women across from them.
"Who the fuck dares to mess with our Andy?" Mrs. Proctor growled, and Andrew was only slightly taken aback by her behaviour since Kim was the exact same way right now.
"I’m going to bury them forever. I bet we’re their financial backer." She muttered ominously, and Maxwell chuckled.
"I’ll have my Father email you all the information we’ve found on them. We have plans to make them regret what they’ve done to Andrew, truly, and with great depths. By the time we’re done with them, no one will remember their company. Especially since that demon’s aunt is on the board and hated Andrew for no damn good reason. They framed him because he was tall!" Kim growled, her pheromones whipping about and Andrew winced. He raised Maxwell’s hand to his nose, sniffing his wrist to fill his nose with his scent.
"Good. Don’t be afraid to ask for help. Even after signing all of these papers, since I’m buying his shares, I have great sway in the company. Plus, we have our own wealth and family prestige we can swing about. Our family name is as old as yours." Kim stated, and Maxwell smiled. His eyes were warm, but the depths of them were filled with rage.
"I appreciate the help. I want to drag it out, especially since we need to get the true culprits behind this. Andrew doesn’t like to talk about it for obvious reasons, but he came to me changed, in rut, and had walked barefoot from gods know where. Near winter. That alone is something unforgivable." Mrs. Proctor now had tears running down her face, her eyes swimming.
"Oh my god. I can’t believe we missed two, awful life events." She sobbed, and stiffly got to her feet before she practically collapsed on top of Andrew, hugging him tightly. Andrew froze, Maxwell’s hand still involved in this mess, but at the same time, feeling soothed from her touch. "Oh sweet baby, I am so sorry that they hurt you that way. You did not deserve it. We’ll make sure that they regret it." Andrew blinked rapidly, feeling a warm emotion crowd his chest and throat.
"I...I’m fine now. Maxwell is helping me, and so is Michael, my Doctor friend. I’ll figure it out. I’ve been thinking about going back to school and finishing my medical degree now until this is all cleared up." Mrs. Proctor squeezed him tightly.
"We’ll support whatever you decide to do. Whatever, whichever it is. What school do you want? We’ll make sure you get in." Andrew’s head swam at her sweetly whispered words. Maxwell laughed.
"My Father has already offered Andrew the same thing. If we combine our forces, there shouldn’t be a school out there that would turn him away. Plus, Andrew was supported by our scholarship program originally, and that alone carries a lot of weight. The only reason he didn’t finish is because of family matters." Everyone knew what that meant, but Andrew was feeling overwhelmed.
"I appreciate your-" Andrew cut off as her arms tightened further.
"You do not have a choice, Andy. We will support you now." Mrs. Proctor pulled away with a smile, her eyes slightly red and puffy. "I will not be taking no for an answer." Andrew swallowed, while Maxwell laughed beside him. It was worse than when his eldest brother, Ben, had gotten mad at Andrew.
Kim was laughing, but it slowly died and she sighed.
"Fuck. I had wanted it to at least be a normal delayed manifestation." Yeah, her and Andrew both. At least if he had manifested that way, it wouldn’t have hurt Maxwell as much as it had. The man didn’t say it out loud often, but Andrew knew he was torn up about it. Maxwell blamed himself for not going with Andrew, which Andrew thought was ridiculous.
If she wanted to kidnap Andrew, he doubted that Maxwell being there would have stopped her. After all, she had kidnapped him from a coffee shop filled with people who he knew. Who knew that they weren’t together anymore and had been suspicious of her. He still had no idea how she had managed to trick them.
Andrew hadn’t reached out to them, even though they had messaged him to check on him. He knew it was petty of himself, and he should go and ask what had happened, but there was some...animosity there. He had a hard time forgetting what had happened to him. The loss of his vision, movement, and control over his body had really, really affected him, but he didn’t want to worry Maxwell. Or Michael.
He’d get over it on his own. Time heals all wounds, right?
