Chapter 195: Tub and talk time
Maxwell shifted, his body rubbing against Andrew’s and the water sloshing slightly. He sighed, adjusting against him, listening to his heartbeat beneath his ear.
This was nice.
After the day that they had, which had started off warm and light because Maxwell knew that Andrew was going to need it, and then how deep and hard it had been, getting to sit in the bath like this, pressed against Andrew’s body really helped soothe him.
Feeling Andrew’s hard length against his ass was also a nice little gift for him as well. Well, not little, more like a huge reward, but he could save that for later. For now, it was about relaxing.
Andrew let out a sigh, wrapping an arm around Maxwell’s chest and pulled him a little closer, before he pressed a kiss against his hair. Maxwell melted.
"You share a lot of similarities with the Gates." Maxwell started and Andrew chuckled.
"Yeah. They were my home away from home. May was the first person to teach me that not all alphas were pieces of shit. I guess I just got it into my head that that meant all true alphas were pieces of shit, but she did do important work." Andrew told him, a fondness in his voice. "Rose is quite a bit older than Richard and I. He was an oopsie, while Rose was planned. I don’t think you could tell, but he’s the baby of the family. Spoiled rotten. Richard always got what he wanted." Andrew chuckled, recounting the past while Maxwell let him talk.
He was sure this was a nice reprieve after what dinner had turned into. He knew that Andrew probably had a very hard time talking about it. Maxwell was surprised that it had affected him as much as it had, but then again, anything involving Andrew always made him emotional.
It was like a switch he had kept down his whole life was flipped as soon as Andrew was involved. While he was embarrassed that he had cried, and had done his best to hide it from the rest of the family, not a single one of them had remained dry-eyed as Andrew revealed what had happened to him.
In fact, he was fairly certain that Rose and May were planning the downfall of Andrew’s ex. He couldn’t let them do that.
At least not alone.
He would have to rope them in on what he and his Father had already planned, just to see if they had any other plans. As women, they would have a different perspective than him, and he was excited about what they would bring as people who had known Andrew longer.
That being said, he was truly alarmed at what Richard had pointed out, and how it had mostly slipped through the cracks. Why had he not considered how much of a freak she was? Nor how persistent she had been? She dated Andrew for two years while waiting for her formula to be perfected and then kidnapped him when it was ’ready’. After isolating him from the people who cared about him, the people who would ask questions about why he was missing, and everything else.
She had been methodical. She had planned to make sure no one asked questions about where he was because he was disgraced, and taking leave. His boss wouldn’t have done any follow up because they would have been pissed that Andrew had sold them out to the other guy, while in truth he would have been in her terrible clutches.
Without Andrew’s own will, and Maxwell desperately searching for him, who knows what could have happened to him?
They had to move. Andrew was so important to him, he could never see the man hurt like that again. He would rather paint the biggest, largest target on his back so that if he did go missing, everyone would ask questions. He needed to flaunt him off more. Make him a bigger deal.
Make those fuckers regret everything that they had ever done.
They would never be able to touch him again. Of course, now he would ask Andrew about if he was okay with this plan. He would never force him into something he wouldn’t like, since it meant that there was a higher chance he would run into his father, but Maxwell was willing to punch that man out in public if it meant that Andrew was safe from the fuckers who most recently hurt him.
His father could be dealt with different moves. If he functioned under the normal rules for people of their status, Maxwell could easily hurt him and break him down. He was more worried about the idiots who didn’t mind doing illegal human experiments.
"What is my pretty Maxy thinking about?" Andrew asked softly, and Maxwell felt his ears warm. Pretty? Him? He used to get so mad when people called him that, but as soon as it came from Andrew’s lips, it changed meaning completely.
He knew that Andrew would never call him that if he didn’t mean it sincerely, and he didn’t hate being pretty for Andrew. Andrew deserved pretty things, and if one of those things happened to be Maxwell?
Well, he wasn’t too upset about that.
"I’m worrying about what Richard said." Maxwell said, not lying to him about his thoughts. Andrew sighed.
"Which part? He said a lot of things." Andrew said, his hand gently rubbing against Maxwell’s skin. It was comforting, relaxing, not at all a type of touch Maxwell was used to before Andrew. It was...nice. There was no expectation. No demand. Andrew wasn’t doing this to get him turned on just so that they could fuck. Andrew just genuinely wanted to touch him to touch him.
"The part about how crazy your ex is. I, of course, have a plan I am already working on with my Father, but I want to have some back up plans as well. Moving, of course, is part of that, but I am also wondering if we should paint a giant sign on your back." Maxwell shifted so that he could look back at him. Andrew had a rather calm look on his face, his glasses gone so that Maxwell could see him clearly, but Andrew wasn’t able to do the same.
He was sure, the man that considered himself Andrew’s father, considered that a flaw against him. Maxwell’s jaw hardened.
"What do you mean?" Andrew asked softly, his tone gentle. Maxwell swallowed.
"It would mean making you so popular that tabloids wouldn’t leave you alone. That everyone would know your name. So that if you ever went missing again, everyone would ask questions, not just the people who care about you." Andrew froze, before his lips twitched.
"You want to make me famous, Maxy?" Andrew teased and Maxwell swallowed.
"I want everyone to know that you are my true alpha partner. I want everyone to know that the Beckett and Proctor families are behind you. I want everyone to know who your Mom is, who you are, and that you are a force to be reckoned with. I want those who hurt you, who might want to hurt you again, to realise that they cannot hurt you like that again." Andrew swallowed, clearly surprised by the power in Maxwell’s words. "The biggest problem, however, is that you could, no, would run into your father, and that is something that I can’t really weigh against all the other things since I don’t know who this piece of shit it. I have theories, but I don’t want to make assumptions against your Mom. She was a nice lady." Andrew burst into laughter.
"It’s okay, Maxy. She was marked against her will, so you can make any kind of judgement you want against my father." Maxwell growled. He fucking hated to hear that. It was the worst thing he could imagine. It made his stomach drop even thinking that could happen to him.
Maxwell used to wear these thick, nearly suffocating collars when he slept with alphas during his heats. Andrew was the first, and only time that he hadn’t worn it since his first heat when he didn’t spend it with anyone.
"I hate that." Maxwell growled. "I just hate the man more, which means that I’m not sure which would be worse. I can’t make that decision for you, but I want you to know what I think. It’s a safety precaution, but I would never want to make you uncomfortable." Maxwell told him and Andrew squeezed him from behind. He pressed another kiss against Maxwell’s hair, before Maxwell gasped as Andrew pressed his lips against the back of Maxwell’s neck.
Maxwell trembled.
"You are so thoughtful and considerate, Maxy. Thank you. Can I have a few days to think about this?" Maxwell wasn’t sure if Andrew did it on purpose, but if he put his lips against Maxwell’s neck like that again, he could get whatever he wanted.
Anything he wanted.
"O-Of course. Take your time. We can still move forward with moving though, right?" Maxwell asked, his cock trembling, his heart racing in his chest and he’d gotten so wet he was embarrassed. Thank god they were in a tub.
"Of course. You sold it so well in the car that I can’t refuse. A place that we selected together? Is there going to be a ring in the place we end up choosing?" Andrew teased and Maxwell nearly choked.
"Do you....want there to be one?" Maxwell asked, a little breathless and Andrew paused.
"Um, well, m-maybe we should date a little bit longer?" Andrew suggested, coughing and Maxwell swallowed.
"We can be engaged for a long time. Longer than Amir and Ben if you’d like." Maxwell shot back, not willing to give up a chance handed to him like this.
"How long were they engaged for?" Andrew asked carefully and Maxwell felt like he was tipping the scales in his favour.
"About 4 years." Maxwell told him and Andrew made a thoughtful, contemplative noise.
"That’s too long for me, but I think we should still wait. Getting a place together and getting engaged? Isn’t that a lot all at once?" Andrew suggested and Maxwell exhaled smoothly, working on it intensely. He could not let on how disappointed he was. It was just a few weeks, Maxwell. Just a few weeks.
It also wasn’t a no. Andrew had not said no, he just said not right now.
"Well, if that’s what you want." Maxwell muttered and Andrew gave him a squeeze.
"You’re upset. Is it because I said no?" Maxwell flinched and Andrew ’awed’. "Awe. My Angel is so cute. I...I don’t want to get engaged until I have enough money to buy a ring that I think is worthy of you. Don’t you dare make a silly offer, or so that I have a lot of money now. It’s a pride thing. I want to feel like I earned it, alright? So be patient. I have no plans to not get engaged to you. I just...want it to feel special." Maxwell’s worries faded with Andrew’s soft, clearly embarrassed confession and he leaned against him, closing his eyes.
"Oh thank goodness. I was worried it was something else. If it’s just pride, I understand. I can wait for pride." Maxwell murmured and Andrew chuckled.
"How big of you, Maxy. Thank you." Maxwell nodded, feeling more relaxed now that one of his worries had been answered in some regard. Andrew truly saw a future with him. He knew he cared deeply about him, but he wanted Andrew marked, in all ways, and it was nice to know that Andrew thought the same of Maxwell.
"Of course. I am a very kind, and generous person." Maxwell stated calmly, smugly and Andrew laughed. He pressed his lips against Maxwell’s skin, and Maxwell could feel the smile there.
"You always have been."
