Chapter 171: A memory to make angels weep

Andrew was still laughing about what he’d found when he’d come down to his new office last week. A plaque that declared Andrew as property of the CEO had been sitting all pretty and shiny on his desk.

Richard had teased him endlessly about it, and so had the girls once they realised Andrew wasn’t upset about it in the slightest. He took his lover’s behaviour in stride, especially since Maxwell knew that Tracey had avoided being obvious about their relationship.

Maxwell had also found out the name of the daycare that Dr. Cox’s daughter had previously attended, and funny enough, it was on the same block that Maxwell’s parents’ condo was on. It was also pretty famous for producing some spectacular kids.

Andrew was pretty sure half of that was from the fact that the kids that went there came from rich families, but no one was going to speak on that. Andrew and Maxwell had made an appointment to go see the place after work later this week, and no one was the wiser.

Except Richard, but that was an active choice on Andrew’s part. He was trying to keep Richard in the loop now that he was working with him. They had even made dinner plans. At the end of the week, the day after Andrew and Maxwell had visited the daycare to check it out, they were supposed to go to dinner at Richard’s parents place. Rose was even coming, Richard’s sister, and her husband.

Andrew was anxious about the meeting, more anxious about it then going to the daycare. Andrew couldn’t care less about what a bunch of rich snobby kids thought of him, but he did want to make sure that Dr. Cox got her money back.

He had been asking her some questions about daycares and how young she’d put her daughter into daycare. She’d been cautious at first, until Andrew mentioned that one of his friends was pregnant and he was just curious because they were a first time parent. She’d let her guard down after that, and found that a lot of her information was incredibly helpful.

She did not bring up anything negative about the previous daycare center her daughter went to, and instead said that they had left because it had gotten too expensive. Andrew knew it was a lie, and was quite impressed by her ability to lie.

Andrew had a huge well of sympathy for her, and empathy. Being a single Mom wasn’t easy, Andrew knew that the most. He really wanted to offer her comforting words, but wasn’t sure how he could go about it without sounding like a creep. He’d just have to get closer to her, that’s all.

Oh no. What a nightmare. Andrew hated having friends.

Speaking of, Andrew was getting along really well with everyone. His first full week had gone very well, and now the omegas he shared the elevator with would speak to him as he headed up. It helped that Andrew probably reeked of Maxwell everywhere he went.

Andrew was quite proud of it. He loved smelling like his favourite person, and he didn’t care what that said about him. Michael was still visiting him, checking up on him and making sure that he was doing well.

He noticed a small fluctuation in his pheromones but it was within reason. They were expecting a slight shift, and something at this small of a level wasn’t anything concerning. Michael and Maxwell were quite proud of him, and how he was holding up. Michael was a bit worried that Andrew still hadn’t knotted, but Maxwell had offered a solution for that.

Andrew hadn’t gone into a rut yet, so maybe his body just didn’t really know...what to do? They’d have to wait until Andrew had his first heat before they could start worrying. Michael, who had considered that, took it into consideration when Maxwell suggested it. Andrew was just along for the ride.

Not that he didn’t care, he did, but if everything else was okay besides Andrew’s cock swelling to a painful level when inside of Maxwell, he considered everything perfectly okay with his body.

Maxwell, however, was a different story.

Maxwell’s regular omega Doctor, surprisingly, had been away on vacation when Maxwell had called in. So Maxwell had to wait. He’d booked an appointment of course, with Andrew hovering over his shoulder like a worried hen. That was for next Monday, and he was going to leave midday to go to it. He’d booked time off for it, so Andrew knew he was serious. It was the soonest appointment he could get, even with his level of priority, and the severity of the concern.

It made Andrew wonder what else could be ahead of him? Who else could be ahead of him? How good was this Doctor that Maxwell was going to see? Should he go with him? Would Maxwell even want that?

He nearly worried himself to death after Maxwell had booked the appointment until Richard had called him a fool and told him to just speak to Maxwell about it.

Richard had been right. Maxwell had agreed to let him come as soon as the words had left his mouth. There had been no reason to worry himself, and Maxwell was excited to show him one of the hospitals that his family owned and operated.

Speaking of, Andrew had finally received notice, through Thomas, of his acceptance into a medical school nearby.

Thomas had come over one night, all excited as he held out the letter to both Andrew and Maxwell, saying that this program was top rated, even if it wasn’t Harvard, and that they were very understanding about Andrew’s current situation.

Andrew had been floored. Medical schools weren’t really...understanding of anyone’s situation. That was something that he knew personally. Andrew wondered how much money Thomas had to fork over to get them to be this easy and sweet to him, but then it became obvious after he did some digging.

It wasn’t Thomas, it was Maxwell. Maxwell had been working with these guys for years, helping their students get hands-on experience in the workforce as researchers and the like. And Thomas? He’d offered Will up on a silver platter, and it appeared that Will hadn’t even thrown that much of a fuss.

Andrew would start in a few weeks, when the new semester started. He’d have to change his working hours, dropping down to three days at the office, and two days at school, but everyone was very understanding. Richard was thrilled, while Andrew wasn’t...quite sure how to feel.

The school had said that they were going to honour all of Andrew’s credits, and put him into the courses he needed as long as he was able to prove he still knew everything taught in years he’d taken.

To anyone else, that probably would have sounded like a challenge. Thomas had even apologised about their behaviour, but Andrew didn’t mind. He knew that it was a serious thing to do, and they were also testing him. So Andrew had agreed to their demands and had gone in on the weekend to write the test they had made for him.

It was composed of all topics in the first and second year. It had been half multiple choice, and half written. Maxwell had been pissed, fuming. Kim had also been livid when she heard about the treatment that Andrew was receiving, but he just considered it fair.

If he didn’t get a high enough score, that just proved that he needed to go back to the lower levels. He wasn’t upset with that logic.

So, he chased everyone out into the hallway until it was just him and the examiner in the room, apologised for their behaviour, and began the test in earnest. Andrew had expected the test to be hard, but he found it was like stretching an old muscle he hadn’t used in a while. Slightly painful, but in the end, he felt better after doing so.

When he finished and reviewed his work, he handed it in, and unlike with other exams, his exam was graded then and there. He left them out in the hallway while this happened, knowing that they would have lost their damn minds if they were in the room with him.

Andrew loved them to death, but they were a bit aggressive when it came to him.

The examiner seemed to be going through it while he graded Andrew’s paper. Their face twitched constantly, their eyes flickering to Andrew’s face and back to the paper several times. They also asked to make sure that Andrew hadn’t brought his phone in several times, as well as clarifying when Andrew had taken these courses.

After they were done, they made a quick phone call, and a few minutes later a woman came racing into the room, huffing and puffing as she raced to get here. Andrew could see the curious expressions of the people waiting outside for him, and he waved at them with a smile.

That was when the examiner caught the new person, the Dean of the program, up on everything that Andrew had done.

He’d gotten one or two terms incorrect, but the test was nearly perfect. The examiner had come in, prepared to be rather harsh, and instead was singing Andrew’s praise by the end. Andrew had been floored, along with the Dean. She sat down, asking Andrew a few of the questions, and asking him to explain his answers on a few of the multiple choice answers.

By the end of it, the two of them were excited to have Andrew around in any capacity, and Andrew was bewildered by the treatment he’d received.

Maxwell, Thomas, and Kim had been so excited to hear that he’d passed with flying colours that they’d booked out a restaurant and thrown a huge feast, inviting the families over. Andrew had met Kim and Jenny’s children for the first time.

They had one girl, and one boy. The girl was an alpha, while the boy appeared that he was going to manifest as an omega. The girl was boisterous, loud, and adorable, while the son was a little more reserved. He reminded Andrew of their respective parents, and it was adorable to see them all interact.

Andrew had been a little confused about the party, but he hadn’t hated it. He was just happy that everyone was happy for him, and that Maxwell, most of all, seemed ecstatic by the news. He was more happy for him than Andrew thought he could be for himself.

All in all, Andrew was just happy that everything seemed to be actually working out for him. Who knew all it took was one good partner?
