Chapter 124: A ceremony to remember
Chapter 124: A ceremony to remember
Andrew’s own worries forgotten, or glossed over for Ben’s more surprising, and happy news, Andrew felt that he could relax again.
He was calm enough that when it came time for everyone to get to their seats, leaving Ben and Amir alone beside Amir’s grandfather and Mrs. Beckett, Andrew didn’t feel weird seeing Maxwell again.
Maxwell had a slight happy flush to his cheeks, and it was clear that he was happy from the way he moved. Andrew felt like just seeing the man filled him with happiness and contentment. When Maxwell demanded his hand to hold, Andrew willingly let him. He’d let the man lead him into certain death as long as he got to be with him while it happened.
Maxwell was at the forefront of the group heading towards the sections set up for the family of the couple. Andrew glanced at the army of people attending, but didn’t look at them for long. Maxwell wouldn’t let him.
Andrew wondered if part of it was to make sure he didn’t get upset and spilled his pheromones everywhere, or if it was because Maxwell didn’t like to share. Andrew hoped it was that one. It was cuter.
Andrew also felt like a giant sitting up front.
"I’m blocking everyone’s view." Andrew told Maxwell once they were sat down. Andrew and Mr. Beckett scoffed at the same time.
"Who cares about them? Can you see?" Maxwell asked and Andrew nodded. Maxwell patted his thigh. "Then fuck them. You’re important too. I don’t care about half of these people, and certainly not more than you. So, they can suffer. You belong next to me." Maxwell told him and Andrew melted. Mr. Beckett patted his shoulder.
"And to add onto it, Ben and Amir would prefer it if you had a good view compared to anyone else here. So, stop worrying, Andy." They worked well as a tag team against Andrew’s worries, and he felt himself relax into the chair. It creaked as he moved, and Maxwell chuckled.
"You were a big boy before, but now you’re even bigger. Do you think you’ll go through another growth spurt?" Maxwell teased and Andrew groaned.
"God I hope not." Andrew muttered. He didn’t think he could handle more clothes arriving like that. He could already see the gleam in Mr. Beckett’s gaze.
It was then that the live band began to play music. Someone must have been given a cue as shortly after Ben came out with Mrs. Beckett. A hush fell over the giant crowd as the two made their way down the aisle. Mrs. Beckett looked pleased, but regal, while Ben looked nervous, but excited.
It was good. Andrew was happy and excited for him too.
Once the two of them were at the front, and Ben was placed properly, it became a waiting game. Mrs. Beckett joined them in the family section, and it was only then that Andrew realised that there was a bucket at his feet. He nudged Maxwell and then pointed to it. Since Mrs. Beckett was at the end of the aisle since she’d just sat down, they nudged Mr. Beckett as well.
"Mom." Maxwell called softly. Mrs. Beckett turned her attention away from one son to the next.
"Yes, Max?" She whispered back and Maxwell gestured to the bucket.
"That’s for Amir. You know, just in case." Maxwell told her quietly and they watched as her eyes widened before her expression softened.
"Ah. I see. Keep it there. I’ll grab it if we need it." She told them and both Andrew and Maxwell nodded. She chuckled, taking her husband’s hand in her own as they sat and waited for Amir to arrive.
Time dragged on, and everyone began to get nervous. Andrew knew it wasn’t because Amir had run away, but he might have had an accident of some kind. He could tell that Ben was worrying about the same thing, but Amir’s grandmother remained calm. He hoped that was because he had contact with Amir’s grandfather and not just because they were a stoic person.
Thankfully, it was only a few moments later before the music shifted, and now it was time for Amir to appear. The sound of everyone turning to catch a glimpse of him made Andrew grin as he did the same.
Amir’s outfit was simply stunning. Andrew hadn’t seen it since he hadn’t worn it for the first set of photos the photographer had wanted to take, and instead he’d worn a soft peach tone suit with peach blossoms sewn on the inside. It was actually very similar to what his grandmother wore, and Andrew thought that might have been intentional.
What he wore now was a classic white suit that had a tapered edge in the back. It was slightly longer, acting as a mini train but didn’t impede his walking, or look foolish. It appeared as if crystals were sown into the jacket periodically, catching on the sun filtering in through the sheer canopy above and making them glitter. A cute touch that Andrew noticed as Amir got closer was that the two men had the same lining to their outfits. It was a rose patterned fabric, and Andrew swooned.
That was so freaking cute.
His grandfather looked so proud to be escorting his grandson down the aisle and he held a crumpled up tissue in his hand that Andrew could tell got a few awes from the crowd. They looked cute together and you could see the family resemblance between the two generations.
Amir didn’t have his glasses on, since he had his contacts in, and he had a short, small veil covering his face. It looked to be completely lace, and very tasteful. Even the bouquet he held was curated to match this exact moment and Andrew was just simply impressed. This felt like it had taken forever to plan, and he could tell that Amir was nervous to mess it up.
He would be too, but when Amir caught sight of Ben so close, it was clear that he grew determined. Andrew sighed, his heart full as he watched them approach each other. Maxwell’s grip on his hand tightened.
"Amir looked a little unsteady. Be ready, just in case." He whispered to him and Andrew nodded. Before this moment, he hated his height, but right now, his legs were the longest. If something happened, like Amir fainted before Ben could catch him, Andrew was three or four giant steps away from helping them.
He’d step in in a heartbeat to help them.
Amir made it to the altar, and after the hand off from Amir’s grandfather to Ben, the music quieted down and the officiant began to lead the ceremony.
Both men stood there nervously, and Andrew laughed quietly. Maxwell glanced at him, giving him a strange look and Andrew just smiled, leaning in to press a kiss against Maxwell’s cheek. It was just a silly thing. It was cute to see them, and watch as their love came to fruition in more than one way.
Everything went smoothly. They both got through their vows, Ben had to wipe a tear away a few times and Amir didn’t cry at all. It was soft, beautiful, and Andrew was happy to be a witness to it.
When it came time to exchange rings, it was Maxwell who was supposed to bring them up. It was a surprise to Andrew, and when Maxwell nudged Andrew and held out his arms, Andrew stared at him.
"Lift me over the edge." Maxwell muttered quietly, and Andrew got to his feet, lifting the smaller man up and over from under his armpits. That brought a few chuckled amongst the crowd and after he had done his duty, Andrew lifted him back over. Maxwell’s ears were pink, but he seemed content.
Then, it was time for the kiss.
The way that Ben looked at Amir, as if he hung the moon and stars in the sky warmed Andrew’s heart. From his angle he couldn’t see Amir’s face, but he had a feeling that it wasn’t much different for him. Lifting up Amir’s veil, the two shared a few words before the officiant announced that they were now married. Ben didn’t even wait for them to tell him to kiss his groom, he just put his hand around Amir’s neck and pulled him close.
The crowd went wild, and Andrew found himself hollering as well as the kiss went on for a little too long. Amir was flustered, but a big, silly grin was spread across his face as Ben raised their hands, united.
Andrew had to sniff a few times, fighting tears. It was just too beautiful. Glancing at Mrs. Beckett, he could tell that she wasn’t doing much better.
Everyone was in celebration mode until Andrew saw Amir’s smile drop. He was moving before he’d even registered it.
Stepping over the barrier, he grabbed the bucket, instincts taking over and he blocked everyone’s view as Amir threw up into the bucket. Even the photographers didn’t catch sight of it, and he was thankful for how big his new body was. Ben went white.
"Amir?" He whispered and Andrew shook his head, chuckling.
"You held up quite well so far. You got through the whole ceremony." Andrew told them. Amir groaned, and he didn’t have anything to wipe his mouth with. Andrew glanced back, catching the eye of Amir’s grandmother and he bustled over, a tissue in hand.
"My baby. You did very well." His grandmother told him, smiling. "Congratulations on your wedding." He told the two grooms warmly as Amir let out a frustrated sound.
"I wanted to make it the whole way." He grumbled, and Andrew laughed.
"Well, someone else decided that they didn’t agree." He teased and Amir laughed.
"You’re right." He agreed, glancing up with sparkling eyes. "Do I look bad?" He asked, and Ben scoffed. He ran his hand down his back soothingly.
"You could never look bad." He told him and Amir rolled his eyes. Amir’s grandmother dabbed at his mouth, cleaning up any spill.
"No. You look gorgeous. Trust your husband. He does not lie." Amir’s face bloomed, and when he glanced at Andrew, Andrew nodded.
"You look like you didn’t even throw up. I would recommend holding off on kissing each other until you brush your teeth. Finish your walk, and disappear for a second after. I’ll have someone run you a toothbrush and toothpaste." Amir’s gaze was thankful.
"Thank you Andrew." Amir said, and Andrew shrugged.
"Are you ready now? I’ll step away so that everyone can see you." Amir and Ben shared a look before they nodded. Amir’s grandmother patted Andrew on the shoulder before he disappeared back to his spot and Andrew sidestepped away from the couple. He didn’t head back to his seat, and instead caught the eye of one of the workers who was on the side.
They waited on the sidelines, ready to accept the bucket.
"They need a toothbrush and toothpaste waiting for them once they finish walking." Andrew whispered and the worker nodded.
"On it. We planned that this might happen. I’ll send one of the girls there now. Thank you." They replied and Andrew smiled at them.
"No, thank you for taking that." Andrew replied before turning and joining the Beckett’s again.
