Chapter 123: Two confessions for the price of one
Andrew was all smiles as they left the room while Maxwell seemed to be a bit more...subdued. Andrew had no idea why. He also had no idea why Maxwell elbowed him so hard in the stomach, even as Mrs. Beckett looked on with sparkling blue eyes.
After Andrew had learned how she had been caught with Mr. Beckett in a closet, he didn’t think she’d say anything about it. Especially since she had also walked in on them kissing before. Maxwell was the one who was going to be in his head about it.
That was okay. It just meant that Andrew had to comfort him. Oh no. How horrible. Andrew potentially needed to take Maxwell away from prying eyes and kiss him better? That sounded like a nightmare.
So Andrew was chuckling to himself as they arrived at the actual location where the wedding was going to take place.
It was huge. Andrew couldn’t even fathom how many chairs there were in here, nor how one could even invite or know this many people to invite. Either way, whoever had done the decorating had done a great job.
Andrew could tell that someone had put their heart and soul into the flower arrangements, and that they were all real flowers. Several arches covered the aisle that Amir was supposed to walk down, and several pillars also helped fill the space. They also held up several sheer sun covers that added to the decoration. The chairs looked comfy, and Andrew could tell that the sections set up for family were different.
They were corded off with silk ropes in the themed colours that Amir and Ben had selected. Andrew realised that both he and Maxwell were dressed in similar colours to what his Mother, Father and Amir’s grandparents were wearing. They looked like a pastel dream, and for some reason, that filled Andrew with warmth.
He honestly didn’t expect meeting Maxwell’s family to go this easily.
Speaking of easy, Andrew caught sight of Will and his fiancé. His fiancé was stunning, as he had been before, but it was clear that he was giving Will the cold shoulder. Will, who was dressed in a matching outfit as the pretty man, looked pissed. Andrew did his best not to laugh at the man who clearly didn’t understand what he had in his hands.
If Amir was anything to go by, Andrew assumed that his fiancé was also a sweet, loving person. Not to toot his own horn, but it seemed that the Beckett’s all had a type. Even if Mrs. Beckett was a little harder around the edges now, he assumed she had been just as soft as Amir when she’d first met her husband.
Well, he imagined. He didn’t know. Maybe Kim or Jenny would? He’d have to remember to ask them later.
Maxwell seemed to slip into his role as a coordinator, along with his Father and brother easily. Andrew watched as Maxwell headed over to the groom, teasing him as the photographers took pictures of every little action. They also got pictures with the whole family against a background of woven roses and other foliage. Andrew wanted to take a photo to show his Mom, but he’d just ask Ben or the photographers when they weren’t busy if he could have a couple of photos of them when they were done.
Andrew was surprised when the group roped him in for the photos of Ben’s big day. He knew he was an outlier, even if they accepted him so easily right now. Plus, it was common practise to put the partners on the outside so that you could easily crop them out. Ben wouldn’t have it. He had Andrew close to him, his arm around him as Andrew towered over everyone else in the photo. Maxwell was beside him, looking as pleased as punch that everyone took to him so easily.
He had worried that someone would complain about him being in the photos. Will was a strong candidate, and so was his fiancé who was put on the outside of the family photos, but it was clear that they didn’t care. While at the same time, it was clear that the Beckett’s cared about Will’s fiancé in place of Will.
Mr. and Mrs. Beckett got individual photos with him. Without Will in them. That seemed to piss off the already angry Will, who stormed off claiming he needed a break.
Andrew wanted to worry about him, he did, but they’d gotten off on a bad foot and he didn’t think Will would take kindly to Andrew checking up on him. So he let the man go. He’d figure it out eventually. Andrew just hoped that it was too late when he did.
As the start time for the wedding came closer, the two families were rushed to a smaller room just off of the wedding venue as the rest of the guests arrived. Maxwell, Mrs. Beckett and Amir’s grandparents disappeared to go check on Amir so that he wasn’t alone and Andrew remained with Mr. Beckett and Ben.
"Nervous?" Andrew asked as Ben bounced his leg. He was sitting, but just barely. The man was rigid, and Andrew couldn’t help but tease him. Ben gave him a sour look.
"You’ll be the same, so keep your teasing to a minimum. I give as good as I get." Andrew laughed at his terse tone.
"I will keep that in mind, but I don’t think that will be for a while." Andrew told him and Ben snorted.
"Doubtful. I bet Maxwell already has the wedding date picked out and has a countdown." Ben didn’t sound like he was joking, and Andrew felt a laugh pull out of him. He knew that Maxwell liked to plan things, and liked things in their place, but he didn’t think it applied to this. Andrew smirked.
"We don’t know each other well enough yet." Andrew told him, and it was Mr. Beckett who snorted.
"Andy, you are the first person I’ve ever seen who can calm him down. There is no way you two don’t know each other well enough. Plus, I’m sure you two are going to mate long before we even discuss where to have the wedding. It’s the way it is with alphas and omegas." Andrew froze at their gentle teasing, and gentle words.
"Oh, I give it 3 months before Max is all marked and chosen." Ben replied, the father and son sharing a teasing look, not realising that Andrew had gone pale.
"I don’t plan to mark Maxwell." Andrew told them stiffly, the words hard to come out of his mouth. The Beckett’s turned to him, shock on both of their faces.
"What? Why not?" Mr. Beckett seemed offended. Like he was doing this to personally upset him. Andrew’s hands shook as he sat down on the couch a small distance away from the others. He kind of worried that they might attack him.
"I...I don’t want to hurt Maxwell that way." Andrew whispered and it was like something clicked behind Mr. Beckett’s eyes. He got up, moving until he was sitting next to Andrew and took his hand in his.
"Andy, you are not your father. You wouldn’t be hurting Maxwell in the slightest." Ben, who had thought that they would be joking about this, shifted.
"Oh shit. I didn’t mean to bring this up if it’s a sore topic." Ben was clearly apologetic and Andrew gave a weak smile.
"It’s...It’s okay. I don’t want to be a downer on your big day. Max and I haven’t discussed it, but it’s not like I’m keeping how I feel about my father and what he did a secret." Mr. Beckett squeezed his hand.
"That’s true, but it isn’t as if you are going to be like him, Andy. I just can’t see it happening. You never struck me as an unfaithful kind of person." Andrew gulped.
"But...what if once I mark Max something changes inside of me? What if it activates something inside of me that turns me into a monster?" Andrew laughed. "I already am one, but I don’t want to be just like him, you know?" Both Ben and Mr. Beckett frowned at him.
"Andy, no. There is no way that’s true, and you aren’t a damn monster. Get that thought out of your head, for Max’s sake. I can imagine him being pissed at you calling yourself that. I won’t bring it up again, but I do think you should talk to Max about it. He probably thinks that you two are going to mate, so you should tell him your feelings about it. Keeping it murky is only going to hurt you two more." Ben glanced at his father and sighed. "On the topic of keeping things murky..." He started and Mr. Beckett, who was still holding Andrew’s hand, jerked his gaze to his son.
"What? What else is happening that I don’t know about?" He asked, clearly slightly annoyed. Andrew, who was happy that the attention was off of him since it felt like his chest was going to collapse, felt his lips turn up slightly. Ben seemed nervous, and Andrew could understand why.
"Uh, well, Andy knows, but that’s only because he and Max helped us but...fuck, okay, Amir is going to be pissed at me for telling you without him here but-" Mr. Beckett’s eyes went wide and his grip went slack on Andrew’s hand. Andrew squeezed it, a smile touching his lips.
"No. Really?" Mr. Beckett asked, wonder in his voice and Ben gave a jerk of a nod before a huge, shit eating grin crossed his face.
"Yeah. Really. He’s about 12 weeks, so we’re just at the beginning, but yeah." Ben’s voice trembled. "It’s why I’m so nervous, and so crazy. It’s hard for me to be away from him right now." Ben admitted. The room made sense then. If Ben needed to be near Amir, it was probably the same for Amir.
"Did you leave him with a t-shirt or something?" Andrew asked, well acquainted with needing the scent of the other. Ben grinned.
"Yeah. He has it in a bag for whenever I’m not near. He’s also having a lot of trouble with the morning sickness. We’re both worried he might throw up during the ceremony." Mr. Beckett waved his hand.
"It’s no worries. We’ll have them edit it out. Does anyone else know?" Mr. Beckett asked, his eyes sparkling.
"His grandparents, you, Max and Andy, and that’s it. I think he might be telling Mom right now, but I don’t know." Ben sighed. "I would have told Will, but he’s been a little shit recently, so he can find out once Amir is doing okay. He’s so worried." Ben admitted, concern on his face and Mr. Beckett chuckled.
"He’s going to be. Oh Ben. I’m so excited for you two. A wedding and a baby? We were going to joke that you two should get started tonight, but I see I don’t have to worry anymore." Mr. Beckett was beside himself, and Andrew was grateful that Ben was able to smooth the mood out.
When Ben caught his eye, he winked, and Andrew realised it was on purpose. He laughed softly. What a sneak. He had a feeling he was going to get along with Ben just fine.
