Chapter 109: Thank goodness for friends
Chapter 109: Thank goodness for friends
Maxwell let out a shuddering breath, and Andrew looked back at him, concerned.
"Is everything alright?" Andrew asked him, and Maxwell looked up at him. Andrew jerked, surprised at the depth of emotion in his blue eyes.
"I just thought about what you were going to be like in your rut, and I just..." He shuddered. "I guess my heat isn’t quite over yet." Andrew, who was in the middle of trying to restrain himself, felt something inside of him slip.
When he was about to lunge at the other man, turn completely around and devour him, Michael cleared his throat.
"Well, let’s continue with our questions. We’re almost done, and then I can leave you two love birds alone." Hearing Michael’s words helped both of the men get their heads on straight, and Andrew was sure that his face was about as red as Maxwell’s was. He’d never been so horny for another in his life.
"Uh, of course. What’s next?" Andrew cleared his throat a few times, trying to clear not only his throat, but his mind. Images of Maxwell kept popping into his mind, and it was quite distracting. He was probably reaching the end of his patience, and Michael could tell.
"Is there anything that you think would make the next heat better?" He asked, and Andrew stared off towards the bedroom.
"Hmm. I think, for me, it’s more about preparation. Now that I have an understanding of what Max wants, I can better prepare. I had very little understanding outside of what he’d shown in the few weeks leading up to it to understand what he needed. Now, I’ll be better prepared. Besides, the other things on that list are private, Michael." Andrew told him with a grin, and felt Maxwell’s nails digging into his stomach. He laughed.
Michael’s expression softened, and he sighed. Closing his book, he glanced over to where Kim was. He then began to tuck away his things, and that was when Andrew realised that he’d taken out his kit. He had been checking Maxwell’s blood. Andrew was surprised he hadn’t noticed it before, but then again, he was more focused on Maxwell as himself, instead of the things going on around him.
He was going to be happy when this heat was truly over, at least in that regard. He hoped that this intense focus on just Maxwell was only because of that. Otherwise, he was going to drive both him and Maxwell insane.
"How did the questioning go?" Kim asked as she approached, and Michael chuckled.
"About as well as I anticipated. They’re doing fine. Nothing I would consider out of the normal from a Doctor’s perspective. How about you, Mrs. Proctor? Anything to worry about?" Michael asked and she hummed. She pretended to put on a big show, before a smile broke her face and she reached out, ruffling Andrew’s hair.
"Nothing of concern on my side either. Andy is doing an incredible job, and it’s good to see that he’s improved so much. I have no one to thank besides our little Maxy, so I’m going to have to wait to thank him when Andy isn’t his guard dog. I feel if I touched him right now I would be in big trouble." Andrew’s face flushed as everyone else laughed.
"He has been quite dedicated." Maxwell said from behind him, and Andrew couldn’t deny it.
"Y-You can barely walk." Andrew protested.
"Hmm. Of course. I did ask for that, but there are other things. I am sure you would rather I didn’t embarrass you so publicly, but you are well aware of your actions." Maxwell’s words held a warning, and Kim laughed.
"Ah, so Andy’s in the dog house when this is all over. Well, we should leave you two alone. I saw we interrupted your meal with our arrival. Were you two celebrating the end of your first heat together?" Kim asked, curious, and Andrew beamed at her.
"No. It’s Max and I’s first month together today." Kim’s eyes widened, and she glanced at Michael. He nodded.
"You two...have only been together a month?" Kim asked, and Andrew nodded.
"We’ve known each other for almost a year, but officially dating for a month." Her expression softened at the way Andrew spoke. It was filled with so much happiness, and excitement. Maxwell’s sigh from behind him had her expression shifting.
"Remember? He was dating someone when we first met, and I don’t poach." Michael chuckled.
"Well, I’m almost wishing that you had. Maybe Andrew would be...a little more confident in himself if that was the case."
"Dr. Smith." Maxwell warned, as Andrew and Kim glanced at the two of them in confusion. There was clearly a tension in the air, but Andrew had no idea why. It was clear that Kim was in the dark as well. Michael sighed.
"Alright. I’m just saying. Having that monster out of his life sooner wouldn’t have hurt him." He muttered, and Maxwell sighed.
"It would have, just not physically. Our Andrew is a big softie. He would have resented the beginning of our relationship for forever, and I will not stand for that. He’s mine now, and I’m glad that he’s confident in his feelings." Maxwell stated matter-of-factly, and Andrew felt his chest swell with affection. Confident in his feelings? That was how Maxwell viewed him?
Kim and Michael’s expressions softened as Andrew buried his face in his hands. He was worried about what kind of expression he was making.
"Well, isn’t someone loved? On that note, I need to get back to my own love. No doubt she wants to hear from my mouth that you two are doing alright. She has been worried sick you know. You worry her too much." Kim scolded, but it was with great affection. Andrew wasn’t even sure how he managed to worry her so much, but Maxwell chuckled.
"She does strike me as a worrier." He said and Kim laughed.
"That’s an understatement if I’ve ever heard of one. The woman can work herself into such worrying states that it takes me hours to calm her down." Kim’s eyes crinkled up in the corners as she smiled, showing off her laugh lines. "Not that I’m complaining. It usually works out well for me." She said laughing. "Now, hand over the stuff to them, and let’s get out of here. The pair should be alone until Maxy’s fully out of his heat. He’s in good health. Andy’s been making sure he eats." She snorted, and Andrew wondered what she meant by that.
"Andrew is an impeccable cook." Maxwell defended, and Kim, realising that her joke hadn’t landed, widened her eyes.
"Ohh. Yup. He is. I sampled some of the cookies he made. I know that Andrew can provide, don’t worry Maxy. But really, we should go. I can sense that our dear soft Andrew is getting near the edge." Kim’s words had the others looking at Andrew. He had to admit that she was right.
Sighing, Andrew glanced behind him, knowing Maxwell would want to see it for himself. Maxwell’s eyes widened as he stared at his usually soft alpha.
"Oh Baby, you’re doing worse than I am." Maxwell whispered, and Andrew sighed, giving him a slightly pained smile.
"I’m doing okay. There is just something screaming inside of me to keep you safe. The teasing earlier must have awoken it. It had been asleep for a little bit." Maxwell hesitated, glancing down at the shirt he held in his hand before he dropped it to touch Andrew’s face.
"Awe. It’s alright. You’re still you, Andrew." Floored by how Maxwell could see him to the core, Andrew could feel himself getting overwhelmed by his emotions. There was no way Andrew was going to be able to let Maxwell go back to working after they left. He needed comfort. The kind that only Maxwell could provide.
"You are still you, Andrew. I promise. I wouldn’t lie to you about something as serious as that. Just for your peace of mind, all of Maxwell’s tests came back normal, and like you believe, he should be out of it by tomorrow. The evening at the latest. The bag I’m leaving over here is full of restock. Please, do not hesitate if you need more. I’ve become a member some kind of club to get them, and I charge Mr. Beckett for them whenever you need them. So please, do not hesitate. It’s not weird for me. I’m your Doctor first in this case, your friend second." Andrew turned, noting where Michael had left the bag before he looked up at the man and nodded.
"Thank you. I appreciate you coming to visit." Andrew told them both. He meant it. It might have been a little early, but it was needed. Andrew probably could have taken a turn for the worst if other life forms hadn’t arrived. He hadn’t even been aware of it, until his emotions surged. And his reactions too.
Kim chuckled. Shaking her head, she headed towards the door to pull on her shoes.
"Andrew Knox, you silly man. There is no way now that you’ve let me into your life that I am going to fade away quickly. Your friend here was fielding several phone calls from both Jenny and I before he picked up. He thought we were some kind of stalker until we explained our background to him. And he called Maxy’s Father. There was no way I was going to leave a newly manifested true alpha alone for too long. They don’t know, but I do." She leveled Andrew with a look, and Andrew flushed.
"Well, I’m sure Michael will ask you enough questions so that he does know. Thank you for the visit, and the...supplies." Andrew said as Michael made his way over and pulled his shoes on as well. He didn’t move from the couch, nor did Maxwell.
"Don’t worry. I’ve been chatting her ear off the whole time we’ve been driving. I’m learning so much, and this will only benefit my treatment of you. We can pinpoint if there even are any differences between you and a regular late manifestor." Michael, at least, seemed pleased, and Andrew laughed.
"Good. I’m glad you’re gaining from this." He truly meant his words, and Michael turned and stared at his friend.
"Andrew, there is no way I wouldn’t. I gained a friend I thought I had lost. I’m already in a surplus from this situation. Now, make sure that Mr. Beckett gets some rest, and patch yourself up. I do not know how the older Mr. Beckett will react to Mr. Beckett’s bite marks." Andrew’s cheeks flamed but it was Maxwell who laughed.
"He’d probably tell Andrew that he missed and the back of my neck is a few inches to the right." The duo laughed, leaving with waves and smiles while Andrew sat with a soft, warm hand wrapped around his stomach. He flinched when Maxwell tapped his abs. "Now, shall we discuss what you’ve been trying to hide, Dr. Knox?"
