Chapter 556: Board of Father and Son
Chapter 556: Board of Father and Son
Liszt, who was watching on the sidelines, was choked by the smoke and coughed, his face turning black.
He hadn’t been so speechless in eleven years.
You’re asking Archer to teach you something? With your skill level, it’s like a medical school professor asking a child how to perform a complex neurosurgery using a wrench and hammer.
But judging by Magnus’s serious expression, it seemed he was genuinely moved by Archer’s skills.
"Do you know how many rare ingredients are needed to train a court chef? To accumulate experience, ordinary home-cooked meals won’t cut it. You need resources from wealthy houses, places where you can practice every day. If you truly want to cook, first pay the tuition fee of a thousand Golden Dragons."
Archer took a sip of wine, acting aloof and adopting the mannerisms of a court chef. It wasn’t the first time he’d taken on an apprentice, recalling the times when many aspiring young chefs had paid tuition just to get a few pointers from him during his heyday.
Liszt’s eyes gleamed, recognizing a business opportunity. He initially thought he could cater to food suppliers, taking the path of a different world cafeteria where all the regular patrons were hall-level connoisseurs, who could sort out any trouble straight away.
But Archer’s character was questionable to say the least. If Archer were in Sun Bar, he could have seized Xu Fu’s corpse’s veneration, overturning the established order. Forget about connoisseurs helping you out; as Archer’s scummy big brother, Liszt would be hunted down with a knife.
However, now the idea was clear.
Heaven Port has its own New East, its own Hell’s Kitchen.
Archer: Magnus, I have a problem with this dish you made.
Little Horse tightened up.
Archer: You should have made this for me a long time ago.
Little Horse sighed in relief: Thank you, Chef.
Archer: If you had made it for me earlier, I would have known how awful your cooking is.
Little Horse tensed up again, sweating profusely.
Archer: The term ’awful’ here is in the human sense of the word. One must have evolved to a higher taste level to truly appreciate the culinary disaster you’ve created.
Little Horse: Thank you, Chef.
Archer: You should be cooking at the world’s best restaurant, but not in our world.
Little Horse sweating buckets: I’m sorry.
Archer: It’s better to kill you now! That way, you won’t have to endure a lifetime of never surpassing today’s tragedy!
Thud!
Magnus was killed with a stab from Archer. Thank you, Chef.
Liszt was ready with a comprehensive business plan and decided this guy should stay out of killing people, and instead, open a high-level culinary school and summon demon-banishing chefs.
"I wasn’t here to learn cooking; I only want to ask you, when you slaughtered that sheep earlier, how did you manage to bleed it out instantly? I want to learn your knife technique."
Magnus had fought Zote before. That skill wasn’t human; it was perfectly natural. All defenses and attacks were flawlessly executed, with no weak points.
To explain in human terms, it was like Old Ke’s despair when being tormented by AlphaGo.
Unexpectedly, less than a day later, he encountered someone who could rival Zote, giving him hope. The ups and downs in life can be incredibly thrilling.
"I have no idea."
Archer was baffled by the question. Knife skills? He had never trained.
"My advice is to give up on it. Old Man never trained systematically; he did everything by instinct. According to Old Wei, he’s a once-in-a-lifetime talent, even rarer than finding Zhang Baizhi’s video works."
Liszt gave Archer a nod, activating the He Transmutes Freedom Method. Magnus was the perfect archetypical protagonist from traditional high-adventure novels, not exceptionally handsome but still good-looking and charismatic, unlike Liszt who looked outrageously stunning. Also, he stood as a moral benchmark. In web novels, he’d charge ahead with passion, defying heaven and earth. Alas, this is the Western Continent.
Normal methods can’t control minds here, but persuading Old Man to accept him as an apprentice, losing aim in life after defeating Zote — wouldn’t that be perfect for Liszt’s plans? Liszt would be considered his senior uncle.
Though the Western Continent lacks the saying "A day as a teacher, a lifetime as a father," it does support the student-teacher relationship. Given martial arts’ relaxed rules, there’s still a similar implication.
"Forget Zhang Baizhi’s works for now. Who’s Old Wei?"
Magnus was puzzled.
"A knight from the Gureg Royal Knight Order. Not somebody the deposed ruler Mulong can compare to; he’s the chosen one, handpicked by the king himself."
Liszt smoked a cigarette, contemplating the chaos among Mulong’s various factions — it’s a five-army battle, more experts the better.
Chuan Che boasted of his decisive and lethal prowess, but he used to hunt magic beasts. Killing soldiers weighed heavily on his mind. He was still hesitating in the fortress of the hilly region.
"How is that possible?"
Magnus was incredulous. How could someone receive such praise from a royal knight without any training and still achieve such mastery? "Can we spar?"
Magnus picked up a knife, beckoning Archer to bring it on.
Liszt thought this was bad. Remembering carefully, the only time Archer got serious was when he first boarded the ship, stripping a baron as an Oath of Loyalty, killing some people in the process. He’s been coasting ever since. If Magnus defeated him, how could Liszt still control him?
Archer was one of Black Sail’s founding shareholders. Though he’s an idiot, his status was undeniable. For a long time, no one dared challenge him due to his arrogant personality. As a stubborn guy, how could he refuse?
Being drunk too, he muttered, "Sparring is fine, but weapons have no eyes. If I chop off your other arm, don’t say I didn’t warn you."
After gulping down his bottle of wine, he rudely smashed it on the ground, wiped his mouth with his sleeve, and picked up a plain Mulong Standard Scimitar.
As dusk approached, the sunset painted the clouds with blood.
Noticing all the excitement, Shadi Walman and many curious pirates gathered around, Fafna having finished showing off the rifle also joined.
The pirates had long held grudges against Old Man, the caveman, but dared not speak.
"Magnus, treat this as a duel. Just kill him!"
Shadi cheered for the living dead. As a core member, killing Old Man would be dishonorable, but it’s different when an outsider duels him. Kill freely.
"If you lose to a chef, you’ll be laughed at for the rest of your life."
Wolman egged on Magnus, even if he couldn’t kill Archer, he should at least give him a beating.
"I seriously can’t believe this, our bond is like a candle in the wind."
Archer didn’t care, stretching his muscles. Back when he was called out by the head chef, he said, "Uncle here has killed more than you’ve seen. After so many years, it’s time to show some real skills."
Fafna stood at attention, enthralled. "Wow, is he seriously that awesome? Turns out Old Man’s been playing dumb while hiding his true prowess."
Liszt directly stood up. "Hey, hey! Old Man seems to be the real deal here. No way — could it be? With Rein and Mika’s side quests gone, this isn’t a side quest but a direct achievement reward?"
Over thirty pirates preparing food stopped their work. "It’s Yang Guo! We’re saved!" They were long sick of being ordered around by Archer.
The atmosphere grew increasingly tense.
It’s about to begin.
