Chapter 384: XIX. Return of the Gods
"Gods back in their places! They’ve returned! All of them!"
The chart room was lined with axe-marked walls and a long table draped with stolen silk tablecloths.
Rein shouted excitedly.
"How nostalgic, I’d call this a ’Bitter-Sweet Remembrance Meet!’"
Archer sat with both legs thrown on the table, relaxed and content in his usual spot.
"Su Shi."
Morison blurted out a peculiar name.
"What a forced nostalgia, reminiscing as if we were refugees. I’ve been Captain for so long, even at the worst times we always managed two meals a day. I just inspected the ship; it’s been quite well repaired. Give those shipwrights five extra silver coins each."
Not only did Liszt find the repairs satisfactory, but he had also managed to reinforce and refurbish the ship anew. The ship’s cannons and rigging were all freshly oiled too.
He had developed deep affection for this ship that had lifted him from a wretched pirate to his current status.
"Boss actually inspecting in person? This is something the likes of me should handle."
Mika retorted.
"Boss actually speaking himself? Isn’t it customary for those haughty monarchs to have an announcer who just repeats their words in a low voice; voice so low they could literally drop it at home? Isn’t that just awesome? Learn from it."
Rein had once dealt with tasks for the Honorable-level Adventure Group which had seen many pretentious lords.
"You should focus on maintaining your image, dammit. With the awareness of a Boss, even in summer, wear a white fur cloak, rest rather than sit, and always be accompanied by two beautiful Oasis fans to maintain appearances."
After some treatment from Chiyoda, Shadi had healed from some hidden injuries, but reaching his former peak condition was still going to take a while.
And about the so-called Oasis folk.
They generally represented people from the Green Oasis Country Wadina; Sharon’s elder sister was one of them. The clothes worn by Izumi as a Dancing Lady were also characteristic of that region with lightweight fabrics, ankle and wrist bracelets, and all the glitzy chain decorations on skirts and veils—summarizing, quite flashy.
Fen thought there was some sense in what they said. Liszt’s status was now different, representing the entire East Sea and the entire Black Sail Trading Company, which demanded careful attention.
"I think so too, it’s necessary to uplift your image," Fen mused, adding, "Maybe you should consider cosmetic surgery, pardon my bluntness, that scar... it’s too pirate-like, should be removed somehow."
He spoke calmly.
What kind of person was General Fen? He was someone who never joked in six years.
Liszt was struck as though by lighting, utterly bewildered, just when Alicia was around.
Aside from the twelve core members, the authentic representative of Cyrus, Alicia was brought along too.
"Haha, General Fen is really hilarious, because clearly, I’m much more handsome than him. Little Ai, if you had to choose between dating me or this deadpan face, whom would you choose?"
Liszt lit a cigarette and took a drag, leaning back tactically.
Less than half a second.
"These glasses, they don’t help, you look like a murderer."
Alicia candidly assessed, without much thought.
Liszt was completely dumbstruck, as though even a knife wound wouldn’t have hurt this much.
Swan realized something was off.
"Viola... right, Viola, she has privately confessed she likes captains like you."
Swan suggested.
Liszt was even more devastated, as if hit by a thousand points of critical damage, Well, thanks for that, you’re not that bad a person.
Fen felt time pressing; with building projects steadily progressing on the island, he needed to go to the Sea God Shipyard Island next as there was much to discuss, no time to waste.
"So, let the Third Holy Grail War officially begin."
Mika clasped his hands, leaning his chin on them, glasses catching the light.
"Will you ever be done, you bastard? You’re a shareholder; if you want a woman, go choose one yourself, can’t you?"
Even Wolman couldn’t bear it, this was not the time to discuss these matters.
"It’s about... the rights to Lord Dor’s widow."
Mika stated coldly.
"I cast my own vote."
Wolman said, speaking of Doringger’s widow, calling her a national beauty wouldn’t be exaggerated. Hopefully, Lord Dor was impotent; she might still be untouched, a real blessing for whoever got her.
Fen clenched his fists, these people had been living comfortably while he had taken on every job in every field.
In the end, as expected, Claude abstained, and Swan paired with Fen won decisively; there was no surprise.
"The widow of Doringger must be properly taken care of, and no one should disturb her. We need to show that we are cultured people, that Heaven Port is a civilized place."
Fen explained so.
"No, I and Lord Dor’s widow are consensual, what business is it of yours? Fen, often called the sole dictator of ’91, you’re utterly lawless!"
Mika had had enough of Fen always winning.
Fen, who was always strategic in his speech and thoughtful upon hearing any remarks, was indeed high-end talent. He planned to recruit a batch of fresh graduates from New Pharmacology through Mika’s connections to help lead them. As the largest Triad Gang in the East Sea, providing free medical care would crush the competition and allow them full dominance.
At this point, there were still some issues with Little Kami not following Liszt.
"Black Sail... this New Year’s Eve might be different, perhaps even Qili could perform."
Fen said so.
"Are you talking about the Minstrel Qili?"
Mika asked.
"Correct."
Fen tempted persuasively.
"Since that’s what you suggest, General Fen, let’s go with that."
Mika had nothing more to say; by sleeping with Qili, he could become the Pirate King; it was like resolving things privately within ONE batch.
After a brief interlude.
Outsiders could always invest and even possess decision-making power, but with Garscek holding the largest volume of A-shares and with Black Sail’s twelve mainstays,
the foundation was solid, still led by Liszt, the backbone of the large-scale political-economic-military Black Triad Gang.
Wolman and Ox had established their own strongholds.
Fen also mentioned that he would gather contacts to fill the cultural gaps of Heaven Port and that he was planning a trip to Shipyard Island.
Liszt was seriously concerned about Sharon’s safety. Though he could still squeeze money from Garscek, he couldn’t afford to waste resources; the upcoming expenses were astronomical, and he must venture inland soon.
He briefed everyone on the collaboration with Ban and Celeste’s suggestion.
"I’ve decided to go inland. Those who wish to come can register now. We won’t go deep inland; I plan to travel through the Narrow Sea to a port in Mulong Duchy and contact the leader of the Seventh Amendment."
Of course, Liszt had to consider both sides. As Boss, he couldn’t afford to orchestrate a murder by proxy. In rescuing Sharon, he didn’t rule out the possibility of heading inland alone.
Considering the urgency, he wasn’t going to wait for Yutong to develop the wireless radio before leaving. He had to leave immediately, let Heaven Port run itself for a while, hoping upon his return it had evolved into the East Sea CBD, to show off in front of Sharon.
Of course, Fen wouldn’t go, and neither would Wolman or Ox.
"Narrow Sea..."
Mika was somewhat tempted because his hometown, Chenxi Port, was in the northwest of Aran near the Narrow Sea. With his current status, he could possibly uncover the truth about the incident from eight years ago.
Was it really Caesar...
or that woman.
Who led himself to a dead end.
