Black Sail
Chapter 383: XVIII. A God-like Existence

Chapter 383: XVIII. A God-like Existence

An Inner City hospital that had been converted from a hotel.

That is to say, the location where Black Sail’s free medical policy was implemented.

Liszt called the free medical care a matter of the bigger picture, but in reality, everyone else referred to it as a brain thrombosis.

The regulars at Black Sail all thought this idea was ridiculous and never took it seriously. Sure, for a cold or flu, grabbing some medicine was fine, and for injuries, coming in for some bandaging, setting bones, or casting could do, but as for organic disease of the viscera, forget about it. There was a universally acknowledged truth: public services often were inferior to private ones.

And with publicly operated pirate services, that was even more of a pipe dream. Nobody expected to actually cure anyone; it was all for show, an understood charade, nothing but a gimmick.

However, there still were a very few who weren’t well-informed, who, enticed by the notion of free healthcare, came to check it out and join the buzz.

Mika wasn’t completely throwing in the towel, though—he made up a manual for the "pirate physicians" in the hospital to prescribe the right medicine for the right condition, just follow the instructions in the manual.

"Your condition... hmm, breathing troubles, chest pain, right? Since it’s pain, then just prescribing painkillers should do."

Weber nodded in agreement.

His ability to become a physician wasn’t due to a high level of education; it was because basically no one else would take the job, knowing what they were made of. The so-called New Pharmacology was impenetrable. But Weber believed that for anything, you just needed to have the right spirit. As long as the intent to save lives and help the injured got through, then surely the patient would be healed.

He immediately had a nurse fetch a syringe and the pain-relieving medication from the pharmacy.

The company employees who had come for treatment were baffled. Would this really work?

As a fellow member of the Seven Martial Seas, Nishi couldn’t stand to watch anymore. Being able to reach the standard of a Heroic Level Magician meant she had dabbled in all kinds of knowledge. In order to study Magic Techniques, she had even explored a bit of the medical science that came out of big prison.

"Take a deep breath."

Nishi instructed the patient to follow her direction and then asked a series of questions.

Very quickly.

"Hmm, there are fixed rales in your lungs. You’ve been involved in the management and clearance of rubble ruins, right? Probably inhaled too much dust. This is mucous membrane congestion and edema, spasms in the trachea causing it. It’s due to the lungs, a preliminary diagnosis of pneumonia. Start with some antibiotics and albuterol, take these and see if there’s improvement in a week. If not, come back to the hospital and find me."

Nishi wrote him a prescription and told him to fetch his medicine from the pharmacy on the second floor.

Although everyone distrusted this hospital, with just one patient coming in half a day, it didn’t mean they could just mess around prescribing pain relievers for every condition. Such substances were addictive, and the hospital hadn’t taken off yet. If they weren’t careful, it would turn into the Thief Guild’s opium den.

Weber flipped through the manual Mika wrote. This wasn’t even mentioned.

"How much could you earn in a month before?"

Weber closed the manual. He was concerned about this issue. Now with a salary calculated in Golden Dragon being hefty, it was stable, but the average income was far less than before.

And after staying on the island for too long, things got boring. Had he not already been listed as a criminal by the Cross Alliance, he would have fled back long before.

Reaching the level of a Heroic Level adventurer, you’d have some notoriety. Weber had heard a thing or two about this prodigal Magician.

"Don’t worry about that. Hourly and piece rates are two different things. There’s not much to do every day. It’s nice to play around and still get paid, isn’t it?"

In the consulting room, Nishi looked out the window at the scenery. The environment here was beautiful, quite an excellent place for retirement.

"There’s someone to take over."

After being reminded by Rein, Mika thought it best to come take a look.

After realizing how professional the female Magician was, he felt relieved, and on the way back, he bumped into Fen. Fen gave Mika a heads-up.

That was Fen rounding up a group of Magicians from their previous circle to the island.

Because now, Heaven Port was in dire shortage of high-end knowledgeable professionals in various fields. He couldn’t manage alone, and through Fen’s connections, aimed to fill all the gaps.

SS Fuma Keqing Revenge was now perfectly docked at the pier too. Fen mentioned that there would be a major event coming up.

Not only the orthodox Alicia from Cyrus, but Black Sail also had items related to the Overlord from two thousand years ago. Specifically, two of the twenty-four gemstones that were once on the Overlord Crown.

It was uncertain whether Alicia and the gemstones could generate any unique connection.

Speaking of which, where did that girl Fafna run off to?

Black Sail now has three extremely valuable items, all capable of bringing about lethal disaster. First, the Stele; second, Alicia; and third, Fafna.

According to the appraisal by the Holy Spirit Church personnel, Fafna was not hatched from a Dragon Egg.

The hatching of a Dragon Egg is one of the hallmarks of a Magician’s creation, touted as very rare, and indeed it is rather uncommon. At Doringger’s level, his private treasure vault contains only three Dragon Egg fossils, which are magic materials exceedingly rare for Magicians and, of course, have their own collectible value.

If it wasn’t hatched from a Dragon Egg, then it is quite terrifying.

That would mean that Fafna is not some mere child but a monster that might be older than the history of the Western Continent.

Either a transcendent existence that is half living being, half "mineral," existing even before creation, an Ancient Dragon.

Or, by venerating the power held by Ancient Dragons, it mimics their form and abilities, hence imitating the immortal will of a True Dragon.

What this means is.

This little girl is definitely not ordinary.

She is...

An existence akin to a god.

At this moment, on a large reef island more than twenty nautical miles from Heaven Port.

"Lorscht soup restores 50 points of thirst and 30 points of fullness, but the taste is too awful to drink. The tomatoes lack tomato flavor: failure. Forgot to add salt and celery: failure. The beef is too tough: an even bigger failure, SAN decreased by 5 points."

The business-suited Fafna sips a little soup, thus evaluating the Lorscht soup made by the female adventurer hired by Morison.

"Do you have any common sense?"

The beautiful female adventurer was about to go mad with anger.

Her current situation is quite precarious, akin to the oddity of asking the young lady to do domestic homework.

Morison, of course, is not gay, so he hired female adventurers to build his end-of-the-world base, but if he were to throw an open-lam party, wouldn’t that be courting death?

He merely had them do physical labor, having three female adventurers construct his doomsday base.

There were also trees, vegetation, and some small insects on the island, and the terrain was flat; but being only fifty to sixty hectares in size, it could only be called a reef island.

Morison’s face is fraught with worry, bored to the point of sickness, gambling and drinking every day. Without any work to do in Heaven Port, the cycle was a benign one, but at this rate, one would be cast into Hell.

"If you revealed your true form, how far would it be from here to Aran? In your fastest speed."

Morison suddenly recalled this fact. Who would travel by boat? At that time, if he wished to go somewhere, he would simply fly the Dragon directly.

It was as if he had understood something.

The Heaven Port home system restored mood, and all the Far East Islands of the Western Continent were instances—yet, Fafna could still travel quickly.

He definitely had to exert himself and grind through activities.

Not sure what events were happening in the Western Continent now; it’s already the beginning of summer. The swimsuit events should be released, so maybe go inland and draw a few swimsuit characters or something.

Limited edition swimsuit·Emperor’s Wife.

Dammit, if I draw this swimsuit character, I’m bound to be flagged.

"I’ve not tried, ah, two days? Three days? Maybe we should ask Sister Garscek."

Fafna crosses her arms, imitating Morison baiting a fishing rod, ready to go doomsday survival fishing.

They headed to the edge of the reef island, ready to fish.

However, an underling of Ox suddenly burst out of the sea, startling Fafna so much that she dropped her fishing rod.

"Uh... Manager Fen asked me to inform you to go to the SS Fuma Keqing Revenge for a meeting."

The Merfolk said as much.

Morison was speechless, more meetings after having just had one, day in, day out, not knowing what was so important. Were they planning to use the fastest method to breeze through the Continent Martial Arts Competition, then challenge the leader of the Aran Imperial Guard to a duel, and after winning, straight up kill the Emperor?
