Chapter 346: CCCXLVI. East Sea Sovereign: Doringger of the Cold Abyss

Mo Yutong’s clothes and hair were completely soaked as she lay collapsed on the coast. She couldn’t swim and had been brought to the shore by Izumi, who pressed down on her chest to help her cough violently, spitting out water, in extremely poor condition.

The coast was in total chaos, with twelve groups of Merfolk armies, Doringger’s Personal Guard, and another black market tycoon’s men clashing together.

Fen’s gaze was cold, and the first thing he did upon reaching the shore was to search for Doringger. The raven that had flown out had a bird’s eye view from the sky, but it could not find any trace of Doringger; it was as if he had vanished into thin air.

The coast had fallen into an extremely tense standoff.

Ernie was dealing with the Far East Sword Master, the Water-Repelling Sword clashing with the long Dao used for drying clothes. The residual waves of the blade and sword, even a slight brush with their force, meant certain death; no one dared to approach the combat zone of those two.

But clearly, Ernie was gaining the upper hand, step by step pushing Chiyoda towards the direction of the outer city, not allowing her to enter the battle lines and slaughter the remaining Merfolk.

His years were like a candle in the wind, old and frail, older even than Hened; one daren’t imagine what he would have been like in his prime.

Chuan Che was contending with a Shapeshifter, that eerie Druid capable of transforming into a variety of forms, like a spirit of nature. Changing into a black panther with incredible agility, he pounced towards Chuan Che, biting and clawing, his arms and thighs opening up with wounds, oozing plasma.

There was also a Sergeant from the Witch Hunting Secret Department, Ox, who was resisting stubbornly. Shadi, leading a troop of Heroic Level adventurers and Celeste’s intelligence agents, went partly to support Ox, partly to deal with the black market tycoon’s troops.

This Sergeant, with short hair and of advanced age, had a face scarred by interrogation with knives and whips, horribly terrifying, wearing only a simple linen outfit.

Having lived through the dark years of Old Aran, his combat experience, instinctual reactions, expert marksmanship honed by hunting witches, and the necessary arcane magic to resist witches were all factors.

Although his talent for other magic was limited, he was uniquely blessed in Light Magic, interfering with phenomena, creating illusions; combined with his unmatched marksmanship, he had few enemies.

Undoubtedly, he was one of the strongest under Doringger.

"If you don’t run now, it will be too late."

The Sergeant had no killing intent, even after so many years of freeloading off Doringger. But the wealth in Doringger’s hands was unrighteous, and he had no sense of owing anything. Doringger was about to completely slaughter these people.

Ox’s strikes with his Special Large Sword were madly powerful, every slash terrifyingly forceful enough to split metal and break iron.

But the Sergeant didn’t use magic.

Thrust, lift, pierce, sweep, slash; he, renowned for his skill and speed, countered Ox, known for his strength, using finesse to dissolve every bit of force.

And facing the encirclement of Shadi Swan and others like Gawain, he finally used his Magic, interfering with the nearby light, making it impossible to find his actual position or his method of attack.

Mo’er was also lurking at the edge between the port and the outer city, observing the situation. Things weren’t good; the Shapeshifter was entangled by a freak who came from nowhere, that woman actually at a disadvantage, and the Sergeant was blocked. But no matter...

Doringger alone.

Could suppress the East Sea.

The Water-Repelling Sword’s tricky and sweeping horizontal strikes, Chiyoda couldn’t avoid in time, a streak of blood opened up on her wrist, seeping painful crimson.

"Damn... it’s been so long, if he doesn’t come, I’m going to die!"

Chiyoda was unable to parry the old Merfolk man any longer. What was happening? In just a few minutes, he had seen through all her moves.

And Chuan Che, too, had been driven to fury, bringing out his best, punching the Shapeshifter, now a giant wolf, sending it flying, exploding trees one after the other.

Fen was protecting both Mo Yutong and Izumi, too busy to support others. On the desolate coast filled with shipwrecks and the broken pier, he searched for Doringger, but there was no sign of him.

Suddenly.

It was as though a storm was approaching, thunder rolling at the horizon, crossing the endless sea, echoing in everyone’s ears.

Doringger had indeed led the charge.

But not from the land.

The East Sea Sovereign appeared from the sea.

Tormented by long-standing weariness, this sea area was like a damp prison cell, darker than the night, haunted by over a decade of darkness in the East Sea.

A lawless zone, where outlaws roamed.

Money and power exchanged, a bloody hell.

The poison that flowed from these deep blue depths made all souls gaze directly into that trembling other side.

All dreams of happiness and misfortune rushed in droves towards the bitter Abyss.

This cruel absurd game, like a hearse of dreams, rolled over the post-carnival, the reflections of hell that felt either joy or despair.

Bang!

Bang!

Bang!

The shockingly massive sound was like a giant using a warhammer larger than a mountain, striking a vast anvil, sending an incredibly distant echo through the mountains that spread throughout Heaven Port and resonated across the surrounding seas.

Doringger’s hands clung to the steel hull of the Sea God, creating huge dents as his fingers dug into the metal, blood seeping out.

And with the appearance of that figure.

Dark clouds approached, the sun and moon lost their light, and the world was plunged into gloom.

Bang!

Bang!

Doringger clung to the Sea God’s railing, leaping up and standing on the massive, boundless ship at the very front of the bow and stern line, on the platform with the Wave and the Storm Saint Spirit statue.

Standing atop the head of a god.

He was still wearing that white fur cloak, his grey-white hair and garments soaked by the sea, his face stern.

The Sea God let out an incredibly piercing screech, like tinnitus magnified a hundred times, reverberating throughout the entire island; everyone embroiled in the melee suffered splitting headaches, clutching their heads—even if the enemy was right before them, their movements paused for an instant.

The situation on the shoreline was even more intense.

The tormenting demonic sound forced everyone’s gazes to shift in that direction.

Boom!

A thunderclap struck, and lightning turned the surrounding sea into a land of the midnight sun.

And in that instant, Doringger’s shadow seemed to stretch thousands of miles, spreading throughout the entire East Sea.

Disabled sailors, merchants who died violently, prostitutes who were tortured to death, countless drug addicts, and who knows how many ships that had sunk to the bottom of the East Sea.

His influence radiated across the entire world.

A funeral procession without drums or music.

Hidden and intangible, the shadow from the East Sea planted black flags in the depths of countless souls and on barren graves.

Even doing nothing, his thoughts touched everything.

Things unseen are called ghost gods; things seen are called kings.

He who had dominated the East Sea for more than ten years...

The East Sea Sovereign.

Chuan Che also halted, staring blankly in that direction.

Perhaps it was his own illusion.

For a split second when the lightning lit up the sky and earth, it seemed as if tens of thousands of vengeful spirits were following behind that figure.

Lightning danced among the dark clouds, and with each violent flash came a rumbling that shook the heavens and earth.

A stormy gloom descended, and the Milky Way seemed to pour backward.

"This scene... It inevitably reminds me of seventeen years ago when I, too, came to the East Sea alone,"

Doringger’s gaze held a trace of reminiscence.

Then, swiftly.

He lifted the sleeve of his hand to reveal a wrist covered in complex spells.

The statues of the Wave and the Storm Saint Spirit cracked beneath his feet, revealing a treasure trove of Red Crystals, and a tube filled with bright red Magic Energy, as if alive, rose from the crystals and inserted into his wrist.

Twelve Magic Ship Cannons began to transform, the mechanical sounds of clicking, like wings, unfolded.

"If you want to defeat me, I am right here."

Doringger raised his other hand, also covered in spells, as if calling to the monsters from the Abyss.

Gale-force winds and raging seas.

For a moment, the sea surface sprouted thousands of horrific tentacles, with countless sea monsters stirring up tremendous waves, surging in this direction.

Rain poured down.

The disordered, densely packed rain lashed the sea surface, rippling with boundless fury.

As if the entire East Sea were crying.
