Chapter 165: CLXV. Radiance

Chapter 165: CLXV. Radiance

Seven hundred years ago.

The Empress Engma, under the conquest of thirty-three Radiant Knights, ruled over the Western Continent.

History became legend, and legend turned into rumors.

Too many things can no longer be verified.

Liszt had, of course, been researching the Junlin Sword for a long time, and to date, so many years later, only twenty-four exist in the present world, with nine never having been found.

But even among those that have appeared, many have vanished once more, their whereabouts unknown.

Three hundred years ago, there was a Magician who visited all the owners of the Junlin Swords and created an illustrated book; the book depicted only seventeen swords.

Such ancient books are hard to come by, many copies were indeed made during that era, but by now they have completely disappeared. Fortunately, four years ago, Liszt’s enemy had managed to obtain one, much like getting a game for free with the purchase of a console.

He had already figured out the strategies.

Thirty-three swords, each with a different design, the Empress, in her quest to Curse Kill all the knights, commissioned that era’s supreme Magician to forge distinctive Curse Swords based on each knight’s unique name and title, to demonstrate the Monarch’s "great favor."

The sword that Liszt holds in his left hand today was originally bestowed upon a knight known as the Abyss Armor; as a ceremonial sword, it’s extremely luxurious. The handle is entirely black, with engravings so fine that you can’t grasp all the details at a glance, and the curvature of the sword blade and the embossed patterns are meticulously crafted.

As the Junlin Sword continuously cleaves through the surrounding space and even light itself, the sword blade seems half-submerged in the Otherworldly Netherworld, adding a thick layer of mystery.

As long as it’s genuine, Liszt can identify it at a glance.

He undid the buckle of the blackwood Sword Box and lifted the upper half.

Because the Junlin Sword is an item of extreme malice.

Backstage at the auction, the organizers averted their eyes, not daring to look directly for fear that the terrifying spell power would kill along the path of light and bring misfortune.

He opened the Sword Box.

Liszt’s throat tightened—it was indeed a genuine Junlin Sword.

He had placed that book of illustrations at Dreya’s house, and every time he went ashore, he would flip through it. The impression was deep, and this sword was also recorded in it.

The specific details had been forgotten, but he remembered the knight it had been bestowed upon.

When the sword was revealed, the backstage lighting seemed to dim slightly, and at the same time, a thoroughly chilling breeze blew.

It wasn’t a physical chill, but an invisible wind that pierced the soul, the deadly cold killing intent lingering like an unceasing curse.

The original owner of the sword, Sefer, had many regrets upon gazing at the sword; having collected it for so long but unable to touch it, he knew that no matter whether he sold it or did something else, he had to dispose of it quickly—it indeed brought misfortune, and now it had brought upon him a deadly disaster.

It was a dark red hilt with a slender blade, identical in size to the one in Liszt’s left hand, but the shape of the hilt and the engravings on the blade, as well as the overall color, were different.

Yet both exuded a strong malevolence.

The light fled from the edge of the blade, twisting like the hazy trails of summer heat—just one glance could make one feel like plunging into an ice pit.

Four years ago, Liszt’s enemy had given him this sword as a gift, hoping to execute Liszt, even suggesting that Liszt should swing it to see if it suited him.

Liszt had gladly agreed but hadn’t taken it seriously, merely picking up the sword with his left hand.

Once you touch the sword blade of the Junlin Sword, you die violently on the spot, and if you touch the handle, it will sink into your body, and legend has it that you will be dragged into the Endless Netherworld to suffer torment.

But the moment Liszt picked up the sword, it instantly merged into his left hand. Logically, Liszt’s soul should have been extracted and erased in an instant. However, that wasn’t what happened.

Liszt merely passed out and had a dream in which he seemed to see a blurred figure. When he awoke, he could no longer remember the details.

When he came to, the Jianghu Mage from the opposing Pirate Gang had already been minced into meat sauce by Liszt’s men.

"It’s genuine."

Liszt closed the Sword Box and buckled it up, unhesitatingly tying it to his back with a hemp rope.

Of course, he would not hold the Junlin Sword right here; besides, he wasn’t even sure if it was just his luck last time, unrelated to the so-called legend.

"The rumored Radiant Knight from beyond the skies was just that, a rumor, its truth unable to be verified.

It was possibly due to some other factors, but if Liszt tried to take it again, he would surely die on the spot.

He certainly wanted to pick it up right now, just like the one in his left hand, to reside within his own body.

But aside from the risk of being Curse Killed, showing such a shocking thing in front of everyone had surely cemented his identity as an otherworldly visitor. Who knows, this might lead someone to look for him, and just like that, he’d be exposed to those five rare dogs.

Sefer was somewhat surprised; this man really had guts to fearlessly touch, without worry of instant death, such an artifact that serves well as a collector’s item but has no practical use.

’Since you’ve gotten the sword, we should head back now.’

Concerned for his daughter’s safety, Sefer watched Liszt hang the sword on his back with indifference, realizing that his group was completely different from the riff-raff thugs of the streets; these were bona fide desperados.

’If the Lord says so, we should head back promptly.’

Liszt certainly wasn’t going to let Sefer off the hook that easily. These nobles, rich and powerful as they were, hired others as bodyguards, might dabble in swordsmanship as a pastime, but the level of their skill was as one would expect.

Such a plump sheep should not be simply let go.

Even if the brothers ran away, and you contact someone to capture us, the question remains, to rob the train or not?

Liszt had to kidnap his daughter to make Sefer obedient.

Since it was a pursuit of thrills, it had to be followed through to the end.

The money and jewels on the train were to be skinned, and the people were to be kidnapped.

To be taken back to the Great Wetland, send threatening letters for ransom, tear the ticket if not paid, and depart promptly when time expires.

The transaction for the Junlin Sword was complete.

As the three prepared to leave,

By sheer coincidence, a familiar woman was dragged over by security personnel.

’Let me go, do you know who I am? I am the wife of the Frost Descent City Lord; he will deal with you properly.’

’Er... The Lord has made the situation clear to us and disavowed any connection with you. You were merely a companion he found yesterday. Just stay put, we’re about to take you to the Judicial Hall.’

The security personnel said with a bit of helplessness in their voice. This female thief knew how to steal alright, bold as well, even aiming to rob the Duguli large-scale art exhibition—serving twenty years wouldn’t be a problem. With the power of the organizers, they could even send her off to the Northern Realm, securing her a spot.

Every object had invisible arcane threads arranged around them, and the plinths contained delicate Magic Energy Device mechanisms. It was fortunate that the organizers had hired professionals to upgrade the security system; otherwise, this female thief’s ’Time Stealing’ technique would have caught everyone in her web.

As the security personnel tugged at the wrist of the thief,

A dozen or so fake items of the display fell from beneath her skirt, ready to pull off an exchange of the fakes for the real things.

Liszt and Morison were both drawn by the commotion.

But when they looked,

It was a real dog’s mess—the thief turned out to be the dancer from the stage at the Water Pavilion Autumn Moon the night before last.

Morison looked on with interest; a thief indeed, but a shame she was a clumsy one.

’What do you think?’

Liszt figured Morison might be a bit interested in the girl.

’Let’s go.’

Morison was nonchalant; life had its joys and sorrows, cattle and horses embellished existence.

Liszt nodded, true to Brother Sha’s style, not falling into a woman’s trap.

However,

An unexpected incident occurred."
