"You want me to be a fighter in your pit club?" Ethan asked stun, was that even legal for his age?

The thought of staying here and fighting to his death made dread consume him. He wouldn’t just be a fighter but be trapped here, never seeing his parents and sister again and that thought alone was what scared him the most.

"Yes my dear boy, be my fighter, my star and then I give you the cure" he said with a flick of his fingers, a man on wine red came behind him, giving he a piece of red paper.

There was no way he could resist now, he had him right where he wanted him. Emotions was what killed great power and the moment he obtain his star he shall eliminate that factor.

"All you have to do is sign the contract and then we are good" he adds with a shrug. "You’ll hear Eden’s voice again"

Ethan’s heartbeat raced, eyes on the red paper and possibly a way to save Eden’s life. Suddenly it wasn’t about the dread anymore but hope that he might set things right. He couldn’t protect his sister but with this he could.

"Why are you doing this?" Riley asked sternly. His attempts to trick her son into this was really low even for Hunter, he showed how desperate he was to have Ethan. It didn’t matter how Important Hunter thinks he was, he will not be having her son.

His mom’s words snapped Ethan out of it, he blinked, heartbeat racing until they drowned his ears.

"Because my Queen, your son is perfect... tell me dear Ethan don’t you want to save your precious sister?" He asked in amusement.

Ethan gulps hard at his words, his gaze drifting to the paper. All it took was to sign that and return Eden will be alright. He reach for it but Riley stops him with her hand.

"Mom!" He yelled, this was a way to save Eden’s life and they shouldn’t stop.

"Don’t you dare!" She hissed. There was no way she was letting her son be subjected to such monstrosity, over her dead body.

"But this is the only way to save Eden, mom she’s dying and I can’t stand it, you have to let me sign the contract" he said on the brink of tears.

"I got this under control so stop making this difficult" she said with pleading eyes.

She understood his pain and his desire to save his sister warmed her heart but she will not trade her son for that. Ever.

"Oh you mean your bodyguards you left at the airport" Hunter cut in, insides thrilling with delight.

Riley turns to him, her eyes went wide in realization.

"Ha yes I figured you would resort to that, a mother’s love is after all the most wonderful thing" he said in amusement.

"What did you do?!" She demands pissed. That was the only chance of being out here alone, without the numbers they were as good as trapped.

His smirks broaden.

Riley’s eyes beamed dangerously as she rise to her feet.

"Be careful my Queen, you can’t singlehandedly take down this mansion no matter how powerful you are, you’re not the black ghoul" he said clearly.

Riley’s fist clenched in a tight hold as her body boiled in rage, the urge to rip his throat was far too hard to ignore, as logic went out the window.

"Young Ethan, your sweet sister time is ticking" Hunter amused knowing, his mother maybe defiant but his star was far too emotional to think straight and he planned on using that to get what he wants.

Ethans eyes lands on the contract, just waiting in his grasp for him to reach for it, he signs it then Eden will be saved, he would just have to agree to Hunters deal and then everything will be okay, Eden would be save, she would make it to her next birthday without any harm.

He gulps.

His mom’s words ranged in his head, his lips pressed in a thin line, trust, he had to trust his mom if this was gonna work, he has to believe that she would set this right in her own way.

Hunter was cunning and probably trying to decieve him, does he really intend on saving Eden? It could be a trick because the only person he could trust was his mom.

He pictured those times he had, especially with his home, she might have consumed with the fate of the world, with work and everything, they barely saw her sometimes and that alone was enough to make him take this decision on his own.

Yet his mom was always there and no matter what she was the reason they were okay and keep going no matter what even when it seemed like they were broken. She made them whole.

Ethan took a deep breath opening his eyes, a smirk taking over his lips.

"No" he said sternly.

Hunters smile fades, he hadn’t anticipated this and having Ethan not making a decision blindly put his plans on the line to isolate him.

Seeing he was distracted, Riley came at him, but before she could blink, Fred was behind her as he wraps a gold rope around her neck, it locks around as the rope tightens.

Gasping she went on her knees taking panic breaths, her throat felt as if it would snap off and she tried to grab it but the only thing she could do was claw at it frantically.

"MOM!" Eden shouts as he was about rushing to her, but Fred held him behind. "Let me go! Stop! Stop it you are hurting her!"

Riley growled in pain as the rope tightens more around her neck, the gold substances creeping into her throat, the pain was unbearable, it was hindering her powers from manifesting. There was a block and the deeper the block was the more close she was at the door of death.

She spilled blood from her mouth, more came out from her nose and her eyes turned bloody red.

"MOM!" Ethan screamed with tears in his eyes, he just watch, he couldn’t do anything, he couldn’t act.

Hunter ticks his tongue.

"It’s a pity my Queen, but you’re the obstacles in my way" Hunter began.

"And I’m gonna remove it" he said wielding the rope to lift her off her feet, it did.

Riley’s legs waggle back and forth holding onto the rope on her neck trying to pull it off but it was no use.

He moved her all the way to the edge of the space they were in, facing Ethan with a knowing look, a twisted smirk on his lips as he watch the body went still in shock.

Eden’s eyes widened in horror. "W-What are doing? No, stop! STOP!"

"Watch young Ethan, the death of your mother shall be the birth of your reign" he declared. "Rejoice my boy! You shall be reborn, forever."

"No" Ethan panics as his eyes drift to hers.

Their eyes locked, a tear slide down her cheek staring at her son. It took only a second but that moment seem to last a lifetime.

Ethan kept shouting, screaming for his mom yet even those words ease to exist as a foreign feeling tugged his insides.

"Ethan," Riley said softly hoping to ease him. "Look away," She forced the words out even her vocal cords strain.

But Ethan didn’t, he watch as red aura like fire surrounds around Hunter wildly, it then turned to spikes.

Hunter made sure he did it deliberately so that this will be a core memory he never forgets. Three of the spikes penetrate her chest, blood splashing.

A sharp ringing sound drowned Ethan’s ears as for a moment, the rest of the world stopped. Her hands falling to her sides and her entire body going numb, the life draining from her eyes.

"MOOOOOOOMMMMM!" He shouts in horror as he watch her fall.

Eden pushed Fred off him as he ran to the edge, but Fred still held him down as he kept shouting, calling, stretching his hand in a distant, calling for her to come back.

Riley fell a long distance all the way to the ghoul pit but the force slammed her right through the platform of the floor, breaking right through it falling into the dark abyss that laid beneath.
