Chapter 300: The Wedding

Funnily, Serena wasn’t related by blood to either of them, yet she alone qualified as an elder for both. With her religious background, she was the perfect one to proceed with the ceremony.

Now, normally, the wedding banquet would begin with a few words and then the guests would talk to the newlyweds while enjoying the hearty meal.

After a few hours of joyous celebration, the wedding ritual would commence.

However, when had the lord of the north followed the rituals so earnestly?

If it wasn’t that he wanted to announce to the whole world that Xion was his, he wouldn’t even bother with any of this ceremonial charade.

It was also said that if one offered their hunted beast to another, the bond would last forever.

Darius didn’t believe it at all.

If Ray heard it, he would have snorted angrily. Who was the one who went to hunt the four-winged snow wolf in the middle of the night?

That was a beast even he wouldn’t hunt without a full squad. If he were alone against it, he’d flee without hesitation.

Yet His Grace had been through all the trouble and now he was the one to guard the corpse.

"How infuriating," the knight commander muttered under his breath while kicking the hindleg of the seven-foot-tall white beast.

Did Darius care about Ray’s emotional outburst? Of course not.

After suppressing the celebration of four to five hours into a brief wait of a quarter of an hour, the great Archduke gave the command and the actual ceremony began.

The two young men stood side by side—one tall and broad-shouldered, the other half a head shorter, more delicate in build. Yet somehow, their presence felt perfectly matched.

Between them, the elder of the family stood with her chin held high.

Serena looked at Xion proudly before shifting her white pupils toward a floating scroll glowing softly in front of her.

Her regal, almost cold voice, carried over the now silent grand hall with solemnity and strength.

"Today, before the eyes of our ancestors, of sky and earth, of water and stone, of air and soul—we are gathered for the life-binding of these two hearts."

The noble guests bowed their heads along with Darius and Xion. They paid reverence to the five natural elements, the very foundation of all living things.

The second bow followed soon after, this time to honor the ancestors.

"Two fates. Two names. Two hearts. From this moment forward, they will be one. In sorrow or joy, in fall or rise, let the blood remember."

This time, only the two protagonists of the ceremony bowed their heads.

Xion’s hand trembled faintly. This was it, he thought. I am actually getting married to the Archduke.

The pressure in the room was intense. But then Darius gently squeezed his hand, grounding him like an anchor in a storm. And Xion’s wildly thumping heart steadied a bit.

The three bows for their life on earth, in heaven and in the next reincarnation, were completed without any problem.

As they stood still, the servant approached with a small gold tray bearing two crescent-shaped blades and two ivory cups of deep red wine.

Darius stepped forward first.

Without even flinching, he picked up the blade and sliced a thin line across the palm of his left hand.

The blood welled bright against the pale skin. He let the drops fall into the goblet before lifting the wine and pouring it into one of the cups.

Then Xion, with his delicate hands trembling slightly, did the same. His blood mixed with the wine, and the moment it touched the surface, the red color shimmered, pulsed as if alive, and vanished.

The wine became a luminous, translucent white.

Xion recalled how seriously Nazia had instructed him to be careful with the cups. Once they drank it, they would be bound for life without any way out.

Xion used his mana to treat the small scar on their hands and then, under the watchful eyes, they took each other’s cups.

They waited for Serena to finish murmuring some good luck and blessing spells as cold sweat rolled down Xion’s neck.

"Drink," Serena finally intoned, "and let no god, man, woman or magic sever what has now been joined."

Darius gave a small nod to his partner, lips already touching the rim of the cup.

He looks too eager, Xion thought, amused. With a faint smile and his heart thrumming in his temples, he too drank the wine in one go.

For a heartbeat, the entire hall fell into stillness. Then, a soft pulse of light expanded from their chests, meeting in the space between them.

A green vine made of mana gently encircled Xion’s wrist, as if putting a claim on him.

Dark red blossoms unfurled the moment Xion’s pure white mana touched the green vine. Just as soon as it appeared, it vanished into thin air.

Darius let out a sigh of relief. The ceremony was done.

With one pull, he yanked Xion into his arms. His head buried in the crook of Xion’s neck, inhaling the familiar scent that calmed his restless heart.

"I love you, Xion. I love you so much."

The voice was so light and airy that even Xion thought he was hallucinating. Nonetheless, those words made him chuckle.

After a brief hesitation, he hugged Darius and whispered, "I love you more... husband~"

The grip on his waist tightened, making Xion giggle. He sneakily stole a kiss on Darius’ cheek as well. How wonderful.

When Darius stood up, his green eyes were swirling with intense emotions that made Xion’s spine tingle.

But who was Xion? He was a silly kitten who never understood the extent of trouble he might be in.

Looking at Darius’ clenched jaw, he grinned like a fool. Anyway, what could Darius do in a hall full of people?

So, he became even more bold. Standing on tiptoes, he yanked Darius down by his collar and in front of everyone, he kissed him directly on his lips.

It was just a simple peck; nonetheless, it had enough power to detonate bombs in everyone’s head.

Damn it, I want to kiss him. I want to fuck him on that throne...

Archduke gulped before his tight shoulders relaxed slightly. He had all the time in the world to punish this teasing kitten. Even if Xion cried later, he wouldn’t let him off the hook!
