Chapter 108: So Close Until I can feel You Against My Lips.
Normally, exhaustion from long hours in the lab would pull Xion into a deep, dreamless sleep.
However, tonight, he could not seem to find the familiar feeling of floating.
The muffled sounds from downstairs were easy enough to ignore at first.
He pressed a pillow over his ears, trying to drown out the noise. Yet the distant murmurs soon turned into loud, drunken jeers.
Xion frowned.
"Are they having a party or something?" He mumbled while scratching his already tousled hair. "They could have invited me, at least. It was not like I was going to really come."
His gaze drifted to the window where the rain was just as mercilessly falling.
He suddenly missed his mobile phone. At least, he would have online games to pass the time.
With a quiet sigh, he swung his legs over the bed. His bare feet fell on the ground as he walked toward the door. He hesitated for a moment before slowly cracking it open, just a tiny slit.
He peered around the dark hallway. There was not a soul in sight. Just as he was sneakily glancing around, a murky gray eye appeared right in front of him.
With a heavy hand, he shut the door and instinctively took a few steps back.
The knock on the door forced his whole body to tremble.
Knock.
Knock! Knock!
The knocks grew heavier, urgent, as if the person outside could not wait any longer.
"Young Lord? It’s me."
A muffled voice seeped through the door, accompanied by a familiar fit of coughs.
Xion nearly collapsed in relief. He patted his chest, trying to steady his racing heart.
"Calm down, you idiot. It’s just the butler," he muttered to himself.
Pulling on his gray robe, he hesitated.
Why was the butler in such a hurry? And at this hour?
Knock! Knock! Knock!
The urgency in the knocks could not be ignored anymore. Hence, Xion could only bite the bullet and slowly open the door.
"You need to run away! Right now!"
The old man’s grip on his shoulders was so tight that Xion winced. But the pain was nothing compared to the shock of his words.
His barely steady heart lurched back into his throat. "Calm down. Tell me what happened first."
The butler gasped for breath, his frail body trembling. It was clear he had rushed here with all the strength he had left.
"Siena had invited him! They were waiting for you to be alone. I did not let them in but she did!"
Xion had already slipped on his shoes, hurriedly tying the laces. "Who?"
No one replied. As he stood up, his eyes widened.
There at the door stood Klein Nocturne, dressed in casual clothes. His one hand was resting upon the shoulders of a hunched-up butler.
The butler’s face was unusually pale. There was obvious fear in those grey eyes. His lips moved but the old man did not dare to utter another word.
"I was coming down to greet you, Lord Klein," Xion smiled lightly before looking at the shivering butler. "Thank you for inviting me down to join the lively party."
Klein raised his brow, his gleaming red eyes shifted between Xion and butler as if wondering if what he heard was true or not. But... was there any point if it was fake?
Xion had no way to escape now. Not until he gets the taste of that deliciously smelling blood.
So, he raised his hand and let the poor butler free from his grip. "Lord Xion, what a coincidence."
Xion nodded, though his true intention was to signal the butler to flee. The older man caught on immediately, hastily bowing before rushing down the stairs, vanishing into the echo of raucous voices below.
"Can I come in?"
Although Klein’s words were courteous, his actions were anything but. Without even waiting for Xion’s reply, he stepped inside and shut the door with his backhand.
"I missed you know. I wanted to talk to you, but you disappeared too soon."
With each word he spoke, Klein took a step closer to Xion, until he was pressed against the window pane he had used to keep an eye on the people below.
"You are too close," Xion tried to keep his voice straight. There was no fluctuation in his tone. Yet the cold sweat had started to roll down his neck.
Klein was deliberately exerting pressure on him!
"Am I?" Klein blinked his eyes looking so innocent. Then a grin crept on his lips, "But I want to be closer to you. So close... until I can feel you against my lips."
Never. Never
in his entire life had he imagined he would end up pinned against a wall while some arrogant fool whispered such disgusting lines at him.His fingers twitched with the urge to shove Klein away. Or maybe punch him. Hard.
"Those lines might be good to seduce those followers of yours. Not me."
Without hesitation, Xion kneed the taller male between his legs.
A muffled grunt escaped Klein’s lips, his body jerking as he doubled over, hands instinctively clutching at his throbbing pain.
Xion had never heard a sound more satisfying than this.
He scoffed, crossing his arms as he watched Klein struggle to stay upright. "If you dare touch me again, I won’t hesitate anymore."
Duke or whatever be damned! He decided then and there that if Kelin refused to leave him alone he was really going to use some weapon on him.
However, there was one crucial detail Xion overlooked.
Klein’s excessive control over mana.
Before he could take another step, or even twitch a finger, an invisible force slammed into him.
His breath hitched as his feet lifted off the ground. A crushing pressure wrapped around him, suspending him midair like a ragdoll caught in a storm.
This was the first time he had ever experienced raw mana acting directly on his body.
He tried to wiggle his hands, and move his feet but to no avail.
Klein glared at Xion and Xion could see the burning anger rising like flames in those red eyes.
"You!" Klein’s voice dripped with venom. "Just because you’re fucking the Archduke, you think you can just offend anyone?"
Xion: "...???"
Excuse me?!
What kind of slander is this?!
