Chapter 8. Working for 48 Minutes, You’re Actually This Hardworking!

In the cozy apartment, Bai Xiyan slurped her noodles while looking up at Ye Chen with a playful grin.

“Hehe, hubby, are my noodles delicious?”

Ye Chen: 🫠

Seeing his speechless expression, Bai Xiyan giggled.

“Hmph, I was asking about the noodles, what are you thinking about?”

Ye Chen twitched his lips. “I was seriously considering whether the noodles are just good or extremely good. You’re the one overthinking it.”

Bai Xiyan bared her teeth in mock anger.

“Hmph, you’re bullying me.”

Ye Chen chuckled and ruffled her hair.

“Just eat your noodles.”

With a giggle, Bai Xiyan split the fried egg in her bowl and gave half to him.

“Hubby, you still have work later, you must be exhausted. Eat more!”

Ye Chen raised an eyebrow and transferred the entire egg from his bowl to hers.

“You should eat more instead. You can work harder tonight… so I don’t have to sweat as much.”

???

Bai Xiyan stared at the egg, her ears turning red.

“Hubby, you’re being lewd, I’m calling the police!”

Ye Chen smirked.

“You started it.”

Bai Xiyan giggled, her eyes brimming with contentment.

The two continued bickering as they slurped their noodles.

A few minutes later, Ye Chen finished his bowl. He stretched, cracked his neck, and turned to Bai Xiyan.

“Wifey, wash the dishes for me. I’m going to work for a bit.”

Bai Xiyan nodded vigorously. “Mhm! Go ahead, hubby, don’t overwork yourself!”

Ye Chen ruffled her hair again before heading into the study.

He booted up his computer, adjusted the cushion Bai Xiyan had bought him earlier, and sat down.

Soon, several emails popped up on the screen.

[Monthly Report – Colorful Investment Co.] [Feasibility Report on Mass Production of Graphene Supercapacitors – Oceanic Energy Tech] [Transition Feasibility into New Energy Vehicles & Oceanic Energy Assessment – Unicorn Auto Group]

Ye Chen opened each one carefully.

These were all reports from companies he fully owned, achievements he had built over the three years since transmigrating into this world.

Of course, none of this would’ve been possible without the help of his golden finger, which perfectly matched his personality.

After twenty minutes of reviewing, Ye Chen stretched and stood up.

The moment he stepped out of the study, a line of text, visible only to him, flashed before his eyes:

[Today’s work duration: 48 minutes and 36 seconds. For a slacker like you, this is actual effort!] [Judged as a Second-Class Slacker Day! Slacker Points +5!]

The message appeared abruptly, but Ye Chen wasn’t surprised.

Similar notifications had followed him since the day he arrived in this world.

Half of his success over the past three years came from this Slacker System, while the other half resulted from his struggles against Bai Xiyi.

The system’s mechanics were simple:

Accumulate 100 Slacker Points, and he could spin a lottery wheel for random rewards, some useful, some bizarre.

The key rule? Do as little as possible.

As he stepped out of the study, cracking his neck, Bai Xiyan, who had already washed the dishes, handed him a steaming cup of milk.

“Hubby, you worked hard!”

She bowed playfully.

Ye Chen smiled fondly, wrapped an arm around her waist, and lifted her effortlessly.

“Wifey, let me check if you’re full yet!”

“Hehe, sure~”

……

Their voices gradually softened.

An Hour Later

Bai Xiyan lay curled against Ye Chen’s chest, too exhausted to move.

Her slender finger poked at his well-defined pectorals as she asked in a slightly hoarse voice:

“Hubby, where are we going tomorrow?”

Ye Chen traced circles on her smooth back.

“I bought a yacht a while ago but never used it. How about a cruise tomorrow?”

Bai Xiyan’s eyes sparkled. “A yacht? Wow! Yes! Let’s do it!”

Ye Chen grinned, then suddenly asked:

“By the way, don’t you think this place is too big for just the two of us? A 7,500 sq ft penthouse feels… empty.”

Bai Xiyan blinked, then nodded rapidly.

“Right?! It does feel too spacious. It’s missing that cozy feeling.”

“How about we move to a smaller place? Oh, and get a dog!”

Ye Chen’s eyes lit up.

“Perfect. I’ve always wanted a dog, but your sister never allowed it.”

“Now that we’re free, let’s check out smaller homes tomorrow after the cruise, and adopt a puppy.”

Bai Xiyan’s face glowed with excitement.

“Mhm! First a dog, then maybe two kids later, it’ll be so lively!”

“What kind of dog do you like? Golden Retriever? Labrador? German Shepherd? Or something smaller, like a Chihuahua or Bichon?”

Ye Chen smiled contentedly, stroking his chin.

“I’ve always liked Golden Retrievers. Gentle, loyal, and they don’t destroy furniture.”

“Do you like cats? We could get one too.”

Bai Xiyan pouted.

“Cats are nice… but they’re so aloof…”

“Hmm… let me think… zzz…”

Her voice trailed off into soft, rhythmic breathing.

Ye Chen glanced down, then chuckled.

She had fallen asleep mid-sentence.

He pulled the blanket over them, wrapped an arm around her, and closed his eyes.

That night, he slept more soundly than ever.

The Next Morning

Ye Chen and Bai Xiyan packed their swimsuits and left their luxury Shanghai penthouse in the G-Class.

An hour later, they arrived at the marina and boarded a lavish yacht.

Meanwhile, on the opposite side of the dock…

Bai Xiyi, wearing a sunhat and a pristine white dress, stepped onto another yacht with a group of glamorous women.

“Splash, ”

As their yacht cut through the waves, Bai Xiyan leaned against Ye Chen, her laughter ringing across the sea.

Minutes later, Bai Xiyi’s yacht also set sail.

At the same time…

Her phone propped up once again.
