Betrothed To An Alpha? I Don't Think So! -
Chapter 60: CAESAR
Chapter 60: CAESAR
The event was held at the Trinora Hotel, one of the biggest hotels in Italy.
Zayne stepped down from his car onto the concrete floor of the vast compound. Worry was etched on his face. He’d left before Evelyn and that was because she asked him to. For some reason, she wanted to come alone, and he really couldn’t understand why.
They were betrothed, who cared if they came together?
"Sir, are you alright?" Enzo was by his side.
Zayne nodded. They walked through the red carpet, up the stairs, and to the open door that led into the huge, expensive building, completely in a luxurious white and gold.
Enzo did well enough to keep the reporters off his back. He had no strength for unwanted questions or mics shoved up his face.
He stalked inside to stop right in front of a double door left wide open to give a view of the hall where the event would be taking place.
His eyes searched, looking for Evelyn. Yes, it was almost impossible that she would be here before him. But to be fair, he’d stopped briefly at his company before arriving.
Guests, so many, prominent businessmen and women were already surrounding everywhere. Securities did well enough to restrict and keep the reporters outside. Some were drinking, and some were chatting with their part...
Zayne paused. Then a smile abruptly pooled at his lips. He’d seen someone he knew and that same person had crossed gazes with him, halting.
Without a second of hesitation, he made his way over, stopping to tower at the same height as the man. Black hair was rather short, but eyes were as green as Evelyn’s.
"Caesar."
The man Caesar grinned at him, keeping his glass of whiskey aside to exchange handshakes with him. "Hey buddy!"
"I didn’t think you were coming. You were all the way in Russia. It’s been a year since I last saw you."
Caesar shrugged. "I had my problems to deal with. And my company over here got the invite. Besides, my wife has been a bit bored. Why say no?"
Zayne shifted his gaze to the woman who stood next to him, a big smile on her face. She was just as tall as Evelyn, though her hair was more a dark brown, matching the chocolate of her eyes. A brunette. Beautiful, that she was. And she was also his mate, because just like him, Caesar was a supreme alpha mated to a human.
Maybe that was why they got along a bit too well. They had a lot in common, except for being the only existing supreme alphas to be known for now. Their kind was rare, unlike standard alphas, betas, and omegas.
"Hello, Adeline. It’s good to see you again," he said, grabbing her hand to kiss the back of it.
Adeline’s smile widened. "Thank you, Zayne. You’re such a gentleman."
Caesar eyed Zayne as he straightened up, and that only amused Zayne. "You never change, do you? I was going to..." he trailed his words as a scent he knew all too well, one that was ingrained in his head at this point, wafted into his nose.
Everywhere had suddenly gone silent.
The gazes of the guests had shifted, falling at the entrance, some setting their drinks aside, and a few with their lips parted.
Zayne slowly turned around, and at the sight of whom even his wolf had been expecting, his pupils dilated, lashes batting in slow motion, almost as if he’d gone into a trance.
Through that door, a woman who some were seeing for the first time, stepped in. 5’7 in height, adored in a cherry red body-fitting dress that glistened under the bright light of the chandeliers.
The dress was long-sleeved, with a rather exposed back, jeweled with dangling crystals all the way to her waist. It was floor length, with a slit that ran up to her knee.
Her raven dark hair was left in a classy messy bun that just perfectly complemented her, leaving the silver earrings she had on each ear exposed. Her makeup was soft, going so well with the necklace she had around her neck.
Simple, yet pretty.
It was his woman, Evelyn Veora Darkwood. Eyes bouncing around, clearly searching for him.
And when they found him, her lips stretched into a light smile.
He didn’t let her walk over, but instead, approached her. "I knew red was more than perfect for you. Great taste, don’t you think?" he asked as he took her hand to leave a soft kiss, his eyes savoring her looks in that mere moment.
Evelyn’s eyes flickered, throat bouncing and cheeks flushing at the implication. All eyes were on both of them. Not that she cared. The only man affecting her within that room was him and only him.
He looked like a walking Greek god, clad in a silver coloured tailored suit, tinted with red designs, seeming to be in some sort of match with her dress. If not a perfect match.
And of course, some of the ladies within that hall were giving her nasty looks. For what? He was betrothed to her. Who did they think they were?
"Evelyn?" His voice drifted into her ears.
She snapped out of it, cheeks reddening and teeth nervously biting down onto her bottom lip.
Zayne walked her over to where Caesar stood, proceeding to introduce, "Caesar, I’m sure you already know her, but this is Evelyn Darkwood. My betrothed."
Caesar seemed a bit taken aback. He didn’t know they were betrothed to each other, more so with the fact that she was human. But who was he to say?
He took Evelyn’s hand, leaving a polite kiss. "It’s nice to meet you, Ms. Darkwood."
Evelyn responded with a smile.
"Evelyn, this is Adeline, Caesar’s wife," Zayne introduced. "Adeline, this is Evelyn Darkwood."
Adeline stepped up, leaving soft kisses on either side of her face. "It’s very nice to meet you, Evelyn."
"Likewise." Evelyn beamed. She liked her.
Turning to speak to Zayne, she was rather cut off by Caesar who grabbed Zayne’s arm with a strained smile.
"Can we have a little talk?"
"Why?" Zayne asked.
"Just come with me."
