Betrothed To An Alpha? I Don't Think So! -
Chapter 53: Finished
Chapter 53: Finished
Evelyn’s fingers skimmed over the bottle, eventually taking a pick.
"I don’t think you want to drink that one. It’s pretty strong," Zayne warned.
"We’ll see." She grabbed a shot and jumped to her feet.
She approached where he sat, keeping the bottle on the working desk. The man arched his brows, unsure what she was trying to do.
Eevlyn grabbed the armrest of his chair, turning it slightly to give herself space as she proceeded to climb into his lap.
"What are you doing?" he asked, swallowing.
"What does it look like I’m doing?" She grinned at him. "Don’t be so surprised. This isn’t the first time we’ve done this, Zayne Mancini."
She grabbed his hands, dropping them against her hips. "Don’t let me fall." Then, she twisted back, reaching for the glass to pour a shot.
"Do you want to go first?"
"Evelyn..."
"C’mon now, don’t ruin this, Zayne. Just this once. Please. I need this."
Her tone sounded desperate. What the hell had happened? Why was she behaving like this?
Evelyn’s body quivered as the drink scorched down her throat. "Okay, that is really strong."
"Give it here." Zayne reached over his hand, but she, however, slapped his fingers. "I told you not to ruin this. It’s just this once, and it’s not like I’m drinking alone. You’ll take care of me if I do pass out. I know you will," she mumbled, pouring a second shot.
"Ah. Open your mouth."
"Evelyn."
"Do it."
He relented, letting her feed him shots after shots. This went on for minutes until she was basically blinking heavily.
"Okay, that’s enough. No more of this." Even he was starting to feel the effect a little bit. "You need to sleep. When we wake up tomorrow, you’re going to tell me what the hell happened, whether you like it or not."
He snatched the shot off her hand, tilting to keep it on the table. But when he tried to get her off him, Evelyn didn’t budge. Instead, she pressed her forehead against his, breathing.
"Evelyn, what are you...doing?" he asked, tone calm and gentle.
"I’ve got something to say." Her eyes shot to his. "I’ve got something I w-want you to do. Hear me out."
"Which is?"
"The last time..." Evelyn whispered, her eyes blinking slowly, but she didn’t stop running them over his face. "Remember last time when you said you could..."
"Could what?"
She shook her head once, but no words came out of her mouth.
"I’m going to take you to be—"
"You said you could give me my first dream kiss."
Zayne froze, eyes flickering. "What?"
"Have you forgotten?"
"No. But I do recall you didn’t want one from me. You even said I was a bad kisser."
"That was just an assumption. I didn’t mean it."
She smacked a balled fist into his shoulder.
"So?" He raised his brows. "What do you want?"
Her throat worked in a thick swallow, teeth coming down to bite into her lip. It made him wonder what she was so nervous abou—
"Give me one."
He stared at her. "Huh?"
"I want you to give me one. No, no, that doesn’t explain it. See, I want you to be my first kiss. How about that?"
He waited for her to play that off as a joke.
But here’s the thing.
Evelyn didn’t look away. Instead, she kept staring, eyes bright with expectation and lips parted slightly.
"Please," she added.
Zayne blinked. "Evelyn, you’re tipsy. You’re not in your right senses, and—"
"I am as much as I can be," she said, grabbing at his shoulders. "See, I wouldn’t be able to ask if I wasn’t a bit tipsy. This is like a courage booster, so...don’t say no. If you reject me right now, I’ll knock myself out by morning. The embarrassment... Please..."
He gaped at her.
What was she doing? Did she realize the fire she was starting at the pit of his stomach? They were spreading so fast to his chest, he could legit hear his heart hammering in his ears.
"Evelyn, I don’t think you want to—"
"Zayne, c’mon, it’s just a kiss." He could feel the loud thump of her heartbeat matching his as her eyes widened, expecting, waiting, hoping. "It’s not that big of a deal! Also, aren’t we a couple? I’m betrothed to you, am I not?"
Then her pupils suddenly dilated with devastation and panic. "Wait... Is it that you don’t want to kiss me? Don’t you like me at all? Am I not your type? Wait, wait, do you have a lover or something? Is that why..."
"Evelyn, you are overthinking this. I don’t have—"
"Oh, so that’s what it is. That’s why you can’t kiss me, huh? Because you have another woman you like, right?" she accused. "You know, that’s not fair. You sounded awfully mad when you thought I had one. But now, here you are and you’re doing—"
His fingers came around her chin, keeping her head still and forcing her gaze back onto his. He ground out with gritted teeth, "I don’t have a lover."
"Then why?"
"Because I’m not going to give you a stupid peck on the lips. No, this is going to be deep. I want a taste of every part of your mouth and that’s why—"
"Fine," she grabbed at the collar of his shirt. "D-don’t make it disappointing. I want it to be a type of kiss I’d never forget."
Finished.
Zayne felt done for. This human had him under the palms of her hand, but she didn’t even know it.
He was an absolutely finished man in her hands.
"Don’t regret this when you wake up, because I won’t let you pretend it didn’t happen," he hummed under his breath, hand sliding down her throat, trailing to the back of her neck to slip into the silky strands of her hair.
Evelyn’s eyes widened to a dark anticipating green, a low soft gasp fleeing her mouth, anxious and waiting with her breathing rapid.
