Chapter 92: Lucian’s Return
TERESA’S P.O.V.
The living room felt colder than it should. The large windows let in streams of sunlight, but no amount of light could erase the shadows crawling inside me. I clutched Ollie tighter, his tiny hand resting on my neck as though he could sense the fear in me. I hadn’t slept, and I doubted I ever would again in this place. The memory of Lucian—no, the beast he became—haunted me. His claws had swiped so close, the wind from the movement sharp against my skin.
Now I sat on the Luxurious couch in Lucian’s extravagant mansion, a place that once felt like a strange blend of luxury and warmth but now felt like a cage filled with monsters. Luke sat beside me, his kind eyes darting between me and the others in the room. Andy, Paul, and Katrina sat at the far end, their expressions unreadable but their eyes on me. Watching. They’d found me in the woods after I ran blindly into the darkness, clutching Ollie for dear life. They brought me back here, claiming it was for my safety.
I didn’t trust them. Not anymore. If Lucian, Juliette, and others could transform into wolves, what were the chances these three weren’t hiding fangs or claws of their own? My stomach churned. I couldn’t leave—Lucian and Adrian had promised to bring Mai back. But could I trust them? Lucian’s promises were like fairy tales: pretty, but they never came true.
My faith was hanging on by a thread, a prayer in my heart repeating over and over.
God, please... please let her be okay. I’ll leave. I’ll disappear. Just give me my baby back.
It was early morning, almost 7 a.m. The soft chirps of birds outside felt surreal, almost mocking the turmoil in my chest. Luke was trying his best to calm me down. His hand rubbed gentle circles on my back. My brother was oblivious to the madness around us, still blissfully unaware of the kind of creature Lucian truly was or the things that took Mai. If he knew, he’d probably drag me out of here kicking and screaming. Maybe I should’ve let him.
"Teresa," he said softly, his voice like a tether trying to keep me grounded."Lucian will bring her back, Teresa. I get that you’re scared—I would be too—but trust me, he won’t let anything happen to Mai. Yeah, he’s got his flaws—let’s not sugarcoat it, the guy can be a real pain—but these past few days? The way he’s been with the twins? That’s not just for show. From one parent to another, I can tell you this: he loves them, fiercely. He’ll move heaven and earth if it means getting Mai back safely. No kidnappers stand a chance against that."
I wanted to believe him, but the image of Lucian lunging at me, growling like a feral animal, flashed in my mind. My grip on Ollie tightened, and he whimpered slightly in his sleep.
Suddenly, Katrina, Andy, and Paul rose to their feet, their movements swift and synchronized, as if they were connected to some invisible alarm.
"What’s wrong?" Luke asked, his voice sharp with concern.
Katrina frowned, her eyes narrowing toward the grand double doors. "Alpha Lucian is back... but he’s not alone."
Luke blinked. "How can you possibly know that—"
Before he could finish, Alex stormed into the room, his steps purposeful. He didn’t even glance at us as he opened the double doors wide. And there they were.
Lucian walked in first, his commanding presence filling the room. Cradled in his arms was a tiny bundle wrapped in a soft cloth—Mai. My heart nearly stopped.
Behind him came Adrian, his tall frame moving with an unhurried grace that made it seem like the world revolved around him and not the other way around. His purple, piercing eyes met mine briefly, and the faintest trace of a smile tugged at his lips before dropping. Beside him stood a striking woman with bright red hair cascading like fire over her shoulders. Her beauty was sharp and dangerous, like the edge of a knife.
"Everyone out," Lucian commanded, his voice low but firm.
"Yes, Alpha," they all chorused, scrambling out of the room like their lives depended on it. Everyone except Luke.
Luke turned to me, his eyes silently asking if I wanted him to stay. My heart ached; I needed his presence, his calmness. But the serious expressions on Lucian, Adrian, and the red-haired woman’s faces warned me that this wasn’t for Luke.
"I’ll be fine," I whispered, forcing a smile.
He hesitated but eventually nodded, squeezing my shoulder before leaving.
Once the doors closed behind him, I focused on Lucian. My eyes darted to Mai in his arms, my feet itching to rush to her, but the memory of his claws stopped me.
"Give me back my baby," I said, my voice trembling but firm.
Lucian took a step forward, and I instinctively backed away. "Don’t come any closer," I warned. "Put her on the couch and step back."
The flicker of pain in his eyes didn’t go unnoticed, but I didn’t care. He had hurt me too much.
He obeyed, placing Mai gently on the couch and retreating a few steps. The moment he was far enough, I rushed forward and scooped her up, clutching her to my chest. Tears streamed down my face as I whispered, "Oh, my baby... my sweet girl."
Mai gurgled softly, her tiny hand brushing against my cheek as though trying to wipe my tears away.
"Thank you," I muttered, barely sparing Lucian or Adrian a glance.
But then, as I adjusted Mai in my arms, something froze me in place. Her eyes.
I stared, my breath hitching. They weren’t green. They were silver—unnatural, glowing silver.
"What..." My voice cracked. "What did you do to her?"
Lucian looked as though the floor might swallow him whole. Adrian sighed, running a hand through his dark hair.
"Teresa," Adrian began, his tone calm and measured, like he was about to explain why the sky was blue.
"No!" I snapped, cutting him off. "Don’t ’Teresa’ me! Why are her eyes silver? What did you do to my daughter?!"
Lucian stepped forward, his voice low and filled with guilt. "Teresa, please—"
"Don’t come near me!" I shouted, backing away as far as I could with Mai and Ollie in my arms.
Adrian exchanged a glance with the red-haired woman before looking back at me. "She’s safe. But we need to explain."
My voice trembled with rage and fear. "Explain? My baby’s eyes are glowing like she’s some... some monster! What have you done to her?!"
"Teresa don’t use such words on her. She’s fine, if only you can let me explain, I—" Lucian said but I cut him off.
"You all keep saying that she’s fine but her eyes have change color for God’s sake! What did you do to my baby?!"
The room fell silent, the weight of unspoken truths pressing down on me like a storm about to break.
