Beggar Cultivation System -
Chapter 348 - 348: East Gate
Don landed on the ground with a thud, his small body creating a small dust cloud.
He looked up and saw the Water-Attributed Falcon circling in the air. Confused, he couldn't help but shout, "Hey! What are you still doing up there? Are you not going to help me?"
Don saw the falcon shaking its head, which left him speechless. "I thought we were partners…"
Shaking his head, he let the bird do its own thing, as he had a task that needed to be done. His eyes narrowed into the distance as three small monsters were coming his way.
His master told him to deal with the small ones, so he landed in the direction where these three monsters were going. Don knew that these were the only monsters he could handle—small and weak, not even worth his master's time. Fighting against stronger foes was only suicide. His master definitely knew that, which was why he had been assigned this task.
Knowing that his master was nearby, Don had to prove that he was worthy of being the Beggar's disciple. He had been trained by a great master, and it would be an insult if he couldn't even kill a few weak monsters. He had done it before with the five Ivory Scorpions, and even though he was scared, he had to face what was ahead of him, no matter what he was feeling.
Taking a deep breath, Don's shoulders relaxed before his whole body became tense, his eyes glinting dangerously as he prepared for battle.
But as the monsters drew closer, he saw something that almost made him sh*t his pants.
"This many?!" Don muttered in shock. Beads of sweat started forming on his forehead as he took a couple of steps backward.
His eyes were playing tricks on him. He thought there were only three beasts flying in his direction, but he couldn't have been more wrong. Behind those three monsters were at least five more!
"Ah sh*t… I'm scared," Don whispered, his chest rising and falling heavily.
He heard the falcon shrieking from the sky as if mocking his current situation. This didn't help Don's nerves, only making him more tense.
"I can do this!" Don slapped both his cheeks, the handprints marking them red. As the stinging pain set in, his mind started to calm down. He gazed at the monsters behind the three in the front and concluded that all their strengths were about the same—just like the Ivory Scorpions before, though this time, there were more of them.
As his determination returned, the Essence of Fighting started to work. His body became light, his muscles contracted, and his mind became one.
With a burst of speed, he arrived right in front of the monsters!
…
Back in Belthias City, at the east gate, the doors were wide open. People came and went, in carriages or on foot, as their journeys began—whether to explore the city or venture out of it.
Even at night, there were still a lot of people who wanted to enter Belthias, especially after Mathias had been assigned the position of the new mayor. A lot had changed, and the city was finally on the right track—away from evil, away from corruption.
More business opportunities arose, and the city had become much livelier than before.
As the east gate's guards screened each carriage and person, one guard received an order before running off into the distance.
A while later, a simple but elegant carriage could be seen, escorted at each corner by silver-armored guards. The insignia on the side of the carriage—a white dragon coiling around a mansion—caused bystanders to turn their heads.
Those who knew this symbol were surprised before they knelt on the ground, and those who were ignorant, upon learning what this symbol meant, also did the same. Admiration, respect, and awe glinted in their eyes as the carriage passed in front of them.
And as the carriage neared the east gate, the guards started clearing the path, gathering more attention.
"June, do you think this is too much?" A woman's voice echoed from inside the carriage, and the charioteer glanced at the small window behind him.
"This is what the Mayor wanted, Bel," June said, smiling slightly.
"I didn't know that my father is such a show-off," Bel sighed from inside.
"Your father is not a show-off," June chuckled. His body was covered by his robes, only revealing his face from time to time. "This is an official visit, not a secret entry into another city. People will get suspicious if they find out we are going there in secret—it will bring trouble."
"I hate politics," Bel pouted, leaning against the wall of the carriage as she gazed at the people kneeling outside through the window. "Why are old people so irritable? They can be easily offended even if it's nonsense."
"They don't want the power in their hands to be threatened," June commented.
"Or more like their ego," Bel sighed. "Aren't we more vulnerable if people know we are traveling?"
"There's no need to worry," June smiled. "I'm already at the threshold between the 3rd-Step Qi Condensation and the 4th-Step. Anytime, I can break through. Besides, even if someone tries to kidnap you, we will make sure that you get out alive."
Bel was going to Manida Land for the Exchange Knowledge event between Cultivators, though she had only accepted the offer upon learning that her savior—and the savior of the city—was also going to join. She was accompanied by four 2nd-Step Qi Condensation Guards and June, who was already on the verge of breaking through to the 4th-Step. It was a lineup that could get anyone anywhere in this region.
As she thought about her savior, the beggar, she couldn't help but wonder where he was.
No one knew his real name. Was it Yoma? Or Can Deez? Her father suspected that these were not his real names, so they had been calling this wanderer the Beggar.
Her savior was pretending to be a beggar, so it was only appropriate for him to have this name and title. A beggar with the strength to rival Core Creation Cultivators… and this beggar was staying in their city, silently cultivating his Way of Cultivation. As Bel thought about this, she couldn't help but smile.
She felt like it was a blessing to their city. Besides her father and the Headmasters, someone very strong was willing to protect their city. She couldn't be more grateful that such an existence was around.
"What are you thinking, Miss Bel?" June's voice woke her from her thoughts.
"Do you think Mr. Beggar will accept me as his disciple?" Bel asked, her eyes shining as she waited for June's answer.
"That…" June thought for a moment before letting out a small laugh. "If you also wanted to be a beggar, then he might accept you as his disciple."
Like cold water being dumped on her, Bel's enthusiasm disappeared. "There's no way, right?"
"Accepting someone as your master… it's a choice that needs careful thinking," June offered his thoughts. "Fighting style, Cultivation Techniques, the Way of Cultivation—one must align with what is in their heart. If you are…"
Suddenly, as the carriage went past the east gate, June made the horses stop in their tracks.
"Why did you stop?" Bel, who was listening intently, couldn't help but ask in confusion.
"Why… is he in a hurry?" June muttered as he saw the person they had just been talking about fly past above them.
