Becoming the Villain's Discarded Wife -
Chapter 49_1
Chapter 49: Chapter 49_1
The Lin brothers were carrying bundles of firewood when someone with sharp eyes spotted the large turtle hanging from their carrying pole, instantly attracting the attention of others nearby.
"I knew there were turtles in the river!"
"How could there be only one turtle in such a large river? There must be more, we must continue to catch them!"
Encouraged by the vision of success, the crowd by the river got even more enthusiastic. If the Lin brothers could catch one, they certainly could too!
The men working on house repairs at home had no idea of the women’s brave show-off by the river.
Lin Yicheng set down the firewood as soon as he entered the courtyard, intending to show off his catch to his little sister. "Fatty, look, good stuff!"
Nanzhi was in the kitchen preparing for lunch. Hearing her big brother’s voice, she poked out her head, "What good thing...Ah!"
As she peeked out, she saw the large turtle swinging towards her, almost prompting her to toss the kitchen knife she was holding.
Looking at his sister’s frightened expression and the turtle flailing towards her, Lin Yicheng seemed to realize something suddenly.
"Fatty, are you afraid of this thing?" Lin Yicheng chuckled, stepping a few steps closer to Nanzhi, turtle in hand.
Nanzhi caught onto what her brothers were up to and promptly slammed the kitchen door shut. She had forgotten, both her brothers were once the village pranksters, continuing to tease her even after they’d become fathers.
"Hahahaha Fatty is actually scared of a turtle." Lin Yicheng held the turtle and laughed till he almost bent over.
"Uncle is a baddie!" Seeing Lin Yicheng using the turtle to scare Nanzhi, Gougou’s face crumpled. His uncle was a big baddie for bullying his mother!
"Ha!"
Looking at the annoyed Gougou, Lin Yicheng suddenly found it hard to laugh. How could he have forgotten about the protective Gougou?
"Uncle was wrong, uncle was wrong." Lin Yicheng quickly put down the turtle, picking up Gougou to comfort him.
Having been previously only annoyed, Gougou now teared up at his uncle’s consolation.
Lin Yicheng was also a father. His own Doudou was already six years old. Seeing Gougou like this, he felt a tug in his chest. He was in trouble.
As expected, within three seconds, Gougou started crying.
"Bad uncle! Waa!"
"Uncle was wrong, uncle was wrong."
With a sombre expression, Lin Yicheng coaxed Gougou while Lin Ercheng shook his head and carried the firewood he had brought back into the firewood room.
After crying for a while, Gougou eventually looked at Lin Yicheng with a sniffling, "Bad uncle."
"Yes yes yes, bad uncle, Gougou stop crying." Looking at his teary-eyed nephew, Lin Yicheng could only continue to coax him. He had no one to blame but himself.
"Uncle, throw away the big turtle!"
"Throwing it away!" Lin Yicheng said as he tossed the turtle behind him, landing it on its back.
Seeing his uncle throwing away the turtle, Gougou immediately stopped crying and knocked on the kitchen door, "Mother, no big turtle anymore!"
Hearing the news, Nanzhi peeked out again, finally relaxing after confirming the turtle was gone.
"Gougou, call your little uncle for dinner."
"Okay."
Gougou was running off to call Lin Ercheng, completely ignoring Lin Yicheng.
"Hmpf." Nanzhi watched her older brother sitting on the ground, huffed coldly, then walked straight to the hall with her dish.
Lin Yicheng was a bit embarrassed and shut his mouth. He turned to find the turtle mumbling softly, what the heck, this is good stuff.
Fearing of scaring his little sister again, he still picked up the turtle and dunked it into a wooden bucket in the backyard. After all, if his sister was not scared later, turtles were really nourishing food.
Nanzhi set up the bowls and chopsticks and called her two brothers. She steamed a pot of rice for lunch and made a braised potato dish and a pot of crab meat soup. It was quite a sumptuous meal.
"Big brother, second brother, you guys start first, I’m going to bring a portion to Aunt Liu next door." Nanzhi said and took a bowl of shrimps out of the door, leaving the two brothers of Lin Family and Gougou on the table staring at each other.
"This smells pretty delicious, huh?" Lin Ercheng mumbled softly, turning his head to Gougou and asked: "Gougou, you tell Uncle, is your mom’s cooking good?"
Gougou wagged his legs in agreement and nodded: "Delicious! Mom’s cooking is the best!"
Lin Yicheng glanced at the food on the table and was somewhat incredulous: "Really? When your mother was young..."
Seeing Gougou about to pout again, he instantly shut his mouth. His little nephew was quite protective.
"Mama’s cooking is delicious! Uncle is a bad guy!" Gougou glared at Lin Yicheng with a reproachful look on his face, which indeed made him blush.
"I’m wrong, I’m wrong." Fearing that Gougou would start crying, Lin Yicheng could only apologize in a low voice. He glanced at his brother who seemed to be enjoying the show, thinking he would get back at him later by making his own child, Maomao, cry.
Lin Ercheng touched his nose and looked away.
"Ms. Liu!" Nanzhi had knocked on Ms. Liu’s door for quite a while holding a bowl but heard no one coming to open it. It struck her as odd, could it be that there was no one in Ms. Liu’s house?
"Girl, what are you doing here?"
Just when Nanzhi was about to turn around and come back later, she heard Ms. Liu’s voice from behind.
Turning around, she saw that Ms. Liu and her daughter Liu were soaked and sweating.
"Ms. Liu, did you go fishing in the river?"
"Indeed, someone saw a tortoise in the river this morning, so a lot of villagers went to catch it. I took these two with me to join in the fun, but we didn’t catch the turtle. Instead, we did catch a lot of fish." As she spoke, Ms. Liu showed Nanzhi the basket of fish in her hand.
"Your two brothers are impressive. We didn’t catch a thing for a long time, and they easily caught a big one once they went in!" Ms. Liu laughed as she told Nanzhi. If it were her own three silly sons, they probably wouldn’t even catch a turtle shell.
"Really?" When Nanzhi heard that a lot of villagers were catching turtles, she felt a bit embarrassed and blushed after recalling how the turtle had scared her this morning. She quickly pushed the bowl in her hand towards them and said, "These are some river prawns I caught this morning. I thought I’d bring a bowl over for you to try."
"Take it back, take it back." Ms. Liu waved her hand, "Just keep it at your house."
"Ms. Wan, please take it. My brothers are waiting for me at home for lunch, I will leave first."
After quickly shoving the bowl into Ms. Wan’s hands, Nanzhi ran back home. As soon as she came back, she promptly closed the yard door, as if she was afraid Ms. Liu would follow her.
"Um, mother, this..." Ms. Wan looked at the bowl in her hand, somewhat at a loss. She had just instinctively caught it, her mother wouldn’t criticize her, would she?
"Just keep it. We’ll send them a fish later." Looking in the direction of Nanzhi’s house, Ms. Liu couldn’t help but feel pleased. Nanzhi was always thoughtful in everything she did, which was why everyone loved her.
"Eh, okay,"
Ms. Liu had knocked on the door for some time and saw Doudou running out to open it. She asked in a puzzled way, "Doudou, where is your grandpa?"
Doudou opened the door and cheerfully said, "Grandpa and Daddy are fixing the basement."
